I think the shortest was JP3 and it suffered from it. At least I thought so.

It absolutely did. That abrupt anti-climatic ending threw me for a loop when I first saw it. I still don't understand how that came to pass.

Quote from: Fembrogon on April 03, 2022, 05:14:38 PMAs delighted as I am to see prominent usage of practical effects - and as appreciative as I want to be for the inclusion of feathered species - those photos of the Pyroraptor's head look downright ugly. Sometimes the JW dinosaurs come across more like caricatures than legitimate designs to me.

I know right? That's what I've been saying ( http://dinotoyblog.com/forum/index.php?topic=6700.msg312954#msg312954 )! To your point, though, I didn't know the animatronic was gonna be even uglier until I saw "those photos". At least it makes for a good meme: https://twitter.com/jurassicpedia/status/1510054839140724741

Quote from: Faelrin on April 04, 2022, 05:27:52 PMThis is good because between the different character arcs and 20+ species it would need a longer runtime to deal with it all.

While I agree that the longer runtime could be good for that reason, it could also be bad if JWD feels overly-long the way JWFK does :-\

H @HD-man Lol great meme. Ditto for the one who responded.

Though I do like both honestly. Obvious PP's is a much needed accurate take on Velociraptor (though if I recall right, Dinosaur Revolution's were decent for the time, but that was a decade ago), but the Pyroraptor was a much needed update and addition for the Jurassic franchise to expose more people to feathered dromaeosaurids. I do agree the head design could have been better (maybe even irl Velociraptor like), but at least it looks better in the renders somewhat. It is pretty obvious to me they wanted to create something for scare factor however, hence the JW styled raptor head (I think it's the teeth mostly throwing it off).

I'm thinking the same thing (although there are ways of making feathered dinos scary without making them needlessly ugly: https://imgur.com/a/zbUir ). That said, it's not just the teeth. The stringy integument & zombie skin remind me more of 2003 Jason Voorhees than anything else:

Might be confirmation on other species in the film and which ones are likely BioSyn specific, rather that means captured or bred I guess:

Edit 2: I think it is also interesting about the number of baby and juvenile animals listed here. Can't wait to see these, and hope there's a figure of that juvenile Carnotaurus, unless that was the one leaked a bit back with the Demon coloration. Would explain its small size.

Edit: Assuming everything above shows up in the film, in addition to what we already have confirmation for, that's putting it up to 30+ species in the film, the most of any Jurassic film. I've updated my list here. By comparison the previous film's had (assuming I didn't miscount or forget anything):

JP (7 total, all new): Brachiosaurus, Dilophosaurus, Gallimimus, Parasaurolophus, Triceratops, Tyrannosaurus, Velociraptor

TLW:JP (10 total, 5 new): Compsognathus, Gallimimus, Mamenchisaurus, Pachycephalosaurus, Parasaurolophus, Pteranodon, Stegosaurus, Triceratops, Tyrannosaurus, Velociraptor

JPIII (12 total, 4 new): Ankylosaurus, Brachiosaurus, Ceratosaurus, Compsognathus, Corythosaurus, Parasaruolophus, Pteranodon, Spinosaurus, Stegosaurus, Triceratops, Tyrannosaurus, Velociraptor

JW (13 total, 4 new): Ankylosaurus, Apatosaurus, Dimoprhodon, Gallimimus, Indominus rex, Mosasaurus, Pachycephalosaurus, Parasaurolophus, Pteranodon, Stegosaurus, Triceratops, Tyrannosaurus, Velociraptor

JW:FK (18 total, 6 new): Allosaurus, Ankylosaurus, Apatosaurus, Baryonyx, Brachiosaurus, Carnotaurus, Compsognathus, Gallimimus, Indoraptor, Mosasaurus, Parasaurolophus, Pteranodon, Sinoceratops, Stegosaurus, Stygimoloch, Triceratops, Tyrannosaurus, Velociraptor

Really thought we'd be used to this now, after the Baryonyx and Giganotosaurus (among many others).

Side note, I really can't understand why the design team kaiju-fied the hell out of the Giganotosaurus to "differentiate it from T-rex", but made the Atrociraptor a normal raptor with a blocky head. Giganotosaurus is a cool-looking dinosaur in real life, so why they reduced it to a Zilla-Concavenator hybrid is baffling.
Though it's at least vaguely similar to the real animal, unlike the Baryonyx, which just looks like a generic croc-monster. If "nothing in Jurassic World is real", make them better, don't reduce them to generic nothings. Baryonyx's most famous feature is its claw, so elaborate on it, don't give it puny little carnosaur arms. Its head has a unique and elegant shape in real life, but nope, you get 'gator.
Sorry for the rant.

Good old styled JP/JW size chart lol, always inflate the hell out of actual animal. Look at that 38m long Dreadnoughtus when the real thing is 26m, it's almost twice the size of a Brachiosaurus. Man, kids are gonna be so mislead on dinosaur and their sizes these days.

Wish Colin could just let animals be animals here.  ::) But then again, considering he also compared the T. rex to a super hero in the IGN article I'm not really that surprised. Also didn't we tread this road with both the Indominus rex and Indoraptor already (including the whole animal abused route making it more aggressive then it would have been otherwise)? That said, even though it is far from accurate I still dig the design, and the animatronic or cgi above looks great. I also really like the black stripe and green body coloration combination it has. And it means I can finally get a Giganotosaurus (of sorts) in my Mattel collection (still want an Acrocanthosaurus though).

Love seeing the animatronic. I wish the toys were more film accurate. I feel like maybe Mattel tried to get a head start and used the Indominus as a base concept and this guy is different to a large degree.

lol Colin didn't phrase that well I admit, and your right, I mean they already did that pretty much with the Indominus Rex.  He's trying to infer it's a mentally unstable villain ? I mean..why? There better be a good reason it's like that.  I never judge til I see something though. Too many people want to just bash everything anymore.

Faelrin

Yeah I'm still excited to see this film, and that bit isn't going to get me down too much. Time will tell how it all plays out and honestly there's going to be a lot this film can offer (like the feathered Therizinosaurus and Pyroraptor, the Lystrosaurus, and so much more) so hopefully this bit regarding the Giganotosaurus won't be too much of an issue.

And yeah it could be possible the toys could have used the Indominus rex to start from, if not another earlier iteration like what happened with the Battle at Big Rock Allosaurus toy (hence the crests above the eyes like the animatronic and concept art, instead of in front of them in the film design. Hopefully they finally fix that if they do a HC figure of it).

Well, thank you for further confirming that this movie will be a trainwreck, Mr. Director. Not that I had any desire or intention of seeing it anyway.

And thank you for once again demonstrating your inability to see dinosaurs for what they really are. That was obvious from 2015, but it's all too clear that you never learn.

I'm thinking that this is just the director's poorly worded way of saying that the Giganotosaurus will be a bit scary.
