Controversial opinions on dinosaur toys

I'm currently not interested in having figures that are in a scale smaller than 1:40, e.g. 1:45, 1:50.

I really like the colouration of the painted Invicta Diplodocus, Brontosaurus and Mamenchisaurus.  I'd like to see some new sauropod toys with similar colourations.

I Think collecta is extremely overate by the community, with only a few being good, such as the iguanodon or acrocanthosaurus.
I like bases but only if they are detachable because i repaint and customize my figures.
I like the schliech world of history figures, kind of.
I dont really care for Mattel and Botm, for some reason.
I really dont small scale sauropods. We need atleast one 1:40 sauropod.
I dont realy care for jurassic park inspired figures from non-jurassic park companies, although i love the papo spinosaurus old.
All Giganotosaurus is AWESOME
Most Spinosaurus is AWESOME
Indian dinosaurs really need their own figures
Almost all figures are slighlty overpriced
I prefer realistic t rexes over jurassic park ones
I love scaly dinosaurs, but also feathered

All Giganotosaurus is radical
Most Spinosaurus is radical

???
What?

I think they didn't understand what you meant by 'radical' (and to be honest, neither did I).

I agree with you a hundredfold on those last two. :))

Yep, when I think "radical" and "Dinosaur", this comes to mind:

Here's one: I like stands. Fight me.

To me, the word radical means an artist who design dinosaurs with overemphasize fashion science ideas and ignore reasonable. But Stegotyranno's opinion seems to be the other way round: too conservative and lacking the consciousness to follow fashion trends.

Silvanusaurus

I feel like this is probably unpopular, I just ordered the recent Safari Carnotaurus because I really liked the look of it in photographs online, but holding it in my hands I am sad to say I find it remarkably unpleasant. The detail up close looks sort of crude and clumpy, and proportionally the whole thing just seems very grotesque, I've only got a few other Safari figures from the past few years (Iguanodon, feathered Velociraptor, Psittacosaurus and such) that have all been really lovely, but there is something very ugly about this one. I'm not going to lie to you... I don't want to keep it in my collection at all.

I have the Carno and I like it, but there's one detail apart for the big feet that I don't like and it's the paint application on the throat, in my figure is just like very thickly applied and not blended at all.

Here's one I've been thinking about:

Is it just me, or is the Rebor Carnotaurus one of the worst looking "high-end" models of recent years. I genuinely think it looks terrible.

Yes! It's pretty abominable. I saw an image of it the other day, having forgotten who produced it, and I thought at first it was some weird knock-off. I know I said the Safari is ugly but its a dreamboat compared to Rebor's.

I actually find it quite nice!

Here's a new controversial opinion I have:

I personally don't find the Schleich 2020 lineup to be bad at all. When I saw the promotional photos I thought that it was bad compared to last year, but seeing the models in person I changed my mind about them. Now I think that it's a good lineup and that in any case the best has still to come. Any news on the summer models?

Killekor
Bigger than a camarasaurus,
and with a bite more stronger that the T-Rex bite,
Ticamasaurus is certainly the king of the Jurassic period.

With Balaur feet, dromaeosaurus bite, microraptor wings, and a terrible poison, the Deinoraptor Dromaeonychus is a lethal enemy for the most ferocious hybrid too.

Totally agree with you apart from the baryonyx of Schleich 2020 which is a beauty, its agustinia, postosuchus and cryolophosaurus (which I will have to analyze in my personal collection when I get the ankylosaurus) are more than acceptable and beautiful figures. I suppose we will know about Schleich's novelties of summer 2020 in the next two months, more or less like last year or maybe after the Nuremberg fair.

IDK how controversial this is, but with the discussion surrounding the Papo Giganotosaurus, here's a new one; we'd all be much better off if the major non-Japanese companies started at least sometimes using detachable bases for their bipeds.

Yes, yes, and yes. I doubt this would be hard, Star Wars figures used to come with stands for years, so I don't think this is so crazy for figures who need it more.

Stegotyranno420

Honestly I love bases. But they are best if detachable, because i do repaints and  i dont want the paint going on the base.

Concavenator

I'm not sure if I have said this before, but I think the Papo Chilesaurus is even worse than the Giganotosaurus. In my opinion, there's so much controvery about this figure only because of the hype for it, but I think the pose of the Pentaceratops is worse than the same pose used for the Giga (because the Penta was a quadruped whlist the Giga was a biped, although, yeah, none of them could ever possibly be in that pose). But the Chilesaurus, the way it is depicted, it makes it seem like a completely quadrupedal animal, not like their 2017 Acrocanthosaurus that also had a bad pose.

I agree that the Chilesaurus is worse. It's the first time a major company's made that species, as opposed to relative dearth of Giganotosaurus figures. But, I forgive the pentaceratops a little, as you can make it quadrupedal very easily.

Shonisaurus

I really like Papo's chilesaurus, I understand that he is an outstanding figure. I don't understand how there are so many negative criticisms of that figure. From my point of view it looks a lot like his paleoartistic representations.

I understand that the criticisms by DTF members about Papo's chilesaurus are quite unfair, I think it's a great figure.
