This is such an amazing looking dinosaur.  I asked ED to put me on the reservation list.  I do believe that it's actually a bit better than CollectA's, especially color scheme wise.  I've never been fond of the desert sand colors that they gave theirs.

Even the feet look more natural, judging by the second picture of the Papo Spino. The CollectA and other versions look a bit like they have achondroplasia, kinda like Corgis.

Papo's new Spinosaurus must be one of the most beautiful Spinos I've seen. And I absolutely adore the colours. Reserved mine!

Some text:

" The Spinosaurus has been kept under wraps by the senior management team at Papo, not even staff members at the company knew about the model's existence until it was revealed at an exhibition last week.  One of Papo's best-selling dinosaur models of all time is their original Spinosaurus figure, but this model depicted this Late Cretaceous North African Theropod as a biped, many palaeontologists now believe that Spinosaurus was a specialised piscivore (fish-eater), that moved around on all fours and spent much of its time in rivers and lakes. "

..and:

" The new Papo figure, will have limited availability, Papo intend to produce all the models in a single production run, so this new Spinosaurus will be much rarer and more difficult to obtain than the rest of the Papo "les dinosaures" figures.  The Papo Spinosaurus (2019), will also be excluded from the 2019 catalogue, as Everything Dinosaur understands the situation, only a few selected distributors of Papo's products will be able to gain access to this new replica. "

Old meme, I know, but still, can't help it...

Sounds like the same situation with the original Brown Running T. rex, only this time they're being completely upfront about it from the get go. Again, I wish those who desire a Spinosaurus all the luck in the world. Many will need it. :-\

I have commissioned but honestly it seems an injustice that four privileged to benefit from this beautiful sculpture of Papo and an immense majority are deprived of the spinosaurus of Papo 2019. It is a complete discrimination. >:(

Flaffy

So... why are they doing this again?

..to me it sounds like a classic commercial strategy to restore a brand and make it shine again : the launch on the market of a very desirable but rare model, apparently difficult to achieve.. ;)

I would say this case is much worse than the Brown RTR's. This time is ,not only a completely new sculpt, but also Papo's most accurate dinosaur in their range that's being limited.Let alone the Brown RTR, that was only an exclusive color scheme, yet the sculpt was the same as the mainstream version that ended up being released.Plus, the people that wanted it very badly will shortly be able to pick it up again as it's being released this year as a normal release. But the case is, nobody said back in December 2011 that the Brown RTR was going to be a special figure by any means, they were just a bunch of figures that simply were in France before its official release in 2012 (afaik) .
But now we 're told from the very beginning that this will be a special figure and it's been clarified that it's gonna be limited edition indeed.

As to why they're doing this, I have no idea since I don't work for Papo  ;D But if they're doing this, it's because they will be benefited by releasing it,without a doubt. The truth is that companies certainly are not ngos.In this case, Papo isn't worried about every single one who wants the Spinosaurus finally gets it.They make that Spinosaurus because they think it will bring the company a good profit.

Also, they might be releasing it as a LE because maybe if they released it as a "normal" release it probably wouldn't be a good seller.Whlist Papo's figures are in the same range as CollectA's , Safari's , Eofauna's  and Schleich's models ( though not the same range as Rebor, nor Sideshow) , the public they're oriented to is not the same.A person who frequently buys CollectA's and/or Safari's dinosaurs most probably are concerned by scientific accuracy,or at least, know more about dinosaurs. So if the regular Papo buyer (disclaimer; there are also exceptions) ,who is used to JP dinosaurs or monster dinosaurs (i.e. their Baryonyx and Acrocanthosaurus models ) saw this Spino he probably wouldn't recognize it, and would confuse it with another creature ( like a Dimetrodon) .And if he was a JP fan or awesomebro dinosaurs fan, he would pass on this Spino anyways. At the end of the day, who wants accurate dinosaurs buys accurate dinosaurs and who wants awesomebro dinosaurs gets awesomebro dinosaurs.

But Papo might have thought that the the rediscovery of Spinosaurus would have a lot of people ( those who are actually interested in dinosaurs) excited for a new model, and so they delivered ,but only to those people, hence the LE nature of the piece.

That aside, I think it shouldn't be too difficult to get one of these. For now, we know ED will carry it.You can just reserve it and when it is available and if the stocks last, they will email you and you will just get it.The real problem and the thing that would make it more difficult for you to get it is the longer you wait.A lot of people want it and a lot of people are reserving theirs, so the longer you take to email them the less possibilities you have.

Yeah, tell that to CollectA, Safari, Schleich, PNSO, and Rebor.  ::)

Well I just messaged them asking if I could be put on the reserve list as well. I really do not want to miss out on an opportunity of getting this. Jurassic collecting can take a backseat for a bit by then just so I can ensure I get this.

I would be picking the Spinosaurus up whether it was limited or not with no plans to ever sell. I expect it to be limited at first and in the future to have repaints released. How could they afford not to?

Fenestra

Maybe Papo is just testing the waters.
They start with 5000 copies that can be pre-ordered by retailers, just to see if Spinosaurus would sell well.
When it turns out Spinosaurus is a succes, they certainly will pump out another batch of 100,000 copies.   >:D

You lost yourself a returning Collector.

Why?

I find it pretty forgiving to let people know 4 months ahead of its release. Enough time to save up for those that need it and enough warning from ED to reserve. It's not like nobody knows where to reserve them and being a free for all.

Maybe because one of their best looking models  (if not the most) and also their most accurate one is a limited edition? ::)

Heres the thing. Not everyone can use Paypal, let alone a Credit Card online.    So makeing this limited to a source that only accepts those as payments is what makes me mad.

I feel confident this will be the case. This very nice paint version will likely be LE and they'll sell a different version in the future with cheaper paint.

The molds to produce these models are extremely expensive...  no way they would completely retire it after one run, I refuse to believe it.

But I messaged ED just in case :/

Bokisaurus

I really like this spino, more so than the Safari one. It looks unique ;D Hopefully I can get it.
