Prehistoric Amphibians?

Where are they? I've been collecting for a few years now and have yet to see anyone outside of Paleozoo make one.

Tiktaalik and Koolasuchus seem to be popular enough to warrant toys (Safari, please). Or do Amphibians suffer from the same issues that seem to keep our other, hominid ancestors from release?

stargatedalek

Not even a Diplocaulus outside of a few appearances as a novelty.

Pachyrhinosaurus

There's the Bullyland mastodonsaurus... and not much else. I'd like to see someone make an eryops or diplocaulus.

Ever since CollectA announced that they were doing Safari-style mini tubes, I was extremely excited for the possibilities.
But so far, other than the prehistoric sea life tube, I've been disappointed.

I was hoping for a prehistoric amphibian tube from CollectA, but all we got were mediocre shrunken down models of existing figures...

SBell

They exist, but they aren't common and can be expensive.

There's a Dawn of the Dinosaurs Promastodonsaurus, a few Diener eraser eryops, a number of Kaiyodo figures from different series and times (diplocaulus, Acanthostega, eryops), a few versions of a yujin Acanthostega, the Panorama Ichthyostega and Diplocaulus, a weird little tailed frog from Schleich...

And of course the set of 8 Play Visions bin figures (eogyrinus, crassigyrinus, platyhystrix, triadobatrachus, peltobatrachus, gerrothorax, eryops, diplocaulus). Good luck with that one...

I also have a few Shapeways printings.

Really, amphibians overall tend to get overlooked, other than modern frogs

Shonisaurus

I would like a diplocaulus in the toy market apart from the existing figures with a medium size but never small. I would prefer a diplocaulus without scale. I don't understand how prehistoric amphibians aren't that successful, maybe because they're not strange enough.

PumperKrickel

It´s weird that Mattel hasn´t done any yet, despite their efforts to make unusual species´ and amphibians being rather prevalent in the Jurassic World mobile games.

Going back further in the early 70s, Aurora Prehistoric Scenes also had a small Diplocaulus with it's "Sail-back Reptile" Dimetrodon kit and another crawling out of the "Jungle Swamp" pond. The latter is hard to get and expensive these days. The former you can find in Revell re-issues of the Dimetrodon kit, relatively easily and often reasonably priced.

The old French company Starlux also produced a Diplocaulus pair as well as a generic labrynthodont. I think they tend to be a bit more pricey than Starlux's  more common dinos though on eBay etc....

Agree with all that we could do with more of them and a toob would be nice....

Jetoar makes an excellent Koolasuchus for his PaleoCreatures line.

Yeah this disappoints me too that there are not more options for Diplocaulus, Ichthyostega, Koolasuchus, Tiktaalik, and maybe even Beelzebufo. At least Kaiyodo made some figures of Diplocaulus and one of Ichthyostega.

As soon as I read "Beelzebufo", I thought "Papo". It wasn't what I'd call a good thought. I can already see an overly detailed spikey nightmare frog with an articulated jaw.

I would like hyper-detailed beelzebufo but not with monstrous details and without an articulated jaw, I would do such a curious frog a disservice.

I would too, but Beelzebufo is such a "Papo" thing to make, and that feels like the way Papo would do it.

avatar_Loon @Loon To be honest it was something I was thinking of too. Regardless I am really surprised there are no(?) figures of this yet.

I'm not too sure Papo's Beelzebufo would be monstrous. You know, not all of their prehistoric animals are, and the frogs they made so far clearly are not.

I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney

There's a more complete catalogue of plastic amphibians at this thread: http://dinotoyblog.com/forum/index.php?topic=207.0

The most notable one missing from the current thread is the Yowie Siderops and Deltasaurus. One thing almost all of these figures have in common is that they were made at least a decade ago (2000s for the Yowies, Kaiyodos, and Bullyland, late 90s for the PV amphibians, and 70s-80s for the Starlux guys). There really hasn't been much lately. It's high time for some new ones.

A Papo Beelzebufo isn't so very far-fetched, since Todd Marshall illustrated one back in the day, and we all know how much Papo loves his art:

But man, I'd love anyone to make a Prionosuchus. Right now you can only get 3D prints or expensive resin kits.
In the kingdom of the blind, better take public transit. Well, in the kingdom of the sighted, too, really--almost everyone is a terrible driver.

avatar_Halichoeres @Halichoeres Wow there's lots of cool critters in that thread I wasn't even aware of.

I can't believe I forget about Prionosuchus sadly. It really needs more exposure in all honestly, and certainly a figure of too. It not only is quite the interesting animal (also featuring a notched jaw) but it is such an interesting example of convergent evolution. Able to occupy a niche, and perhaps a similar body plan to creatures that would come after its time, that it wasn't even (directly) related too.
