Hope you and your parents get better soon, Gothmog! A friend of mine caught it and felt really bad for a few days but he's better now, my fingers are crossed that it's the same for you.

Here in Melbourne, Australia we just got through an intense three month lockdown after cases spiked in late July. We could only stay within 5km of our homes except for reasons like work (if you couldn't work from home, which I did) or to see partners, masks were mandatory for going outside, you couldn't go to someone else's house, and anything that wasn't essential retail (i.e. supermarkets) or food got shut down. As a result, we've gone from 700+ new cases per day to multiple days of zero new cases or deaths, and yesterday was our first day in months where no new cases were reported in the entire country. Of course this doesn't mean that we've rid ourselves of coronavirus completely but it's given us leeway to cautiously lift a lot of restrictions and reopen some places. I got a haircut for the first time in months last week and it's surreal to be able to browse for new figures in person (not that there are any new ones given the retail closure). Masks outside are still mandatory, but I'm ok with that and I don't expect it to be changed until after Christmas.

Honestly it's going to be weird if we manage to get the virus completely suppressed here while so many other countries are going into lockdowns. Though take it from me, if your country goes into a lockdown like we did, it's gonna suck but it absolutely works.

Here in Italy we had the same situation.
On February we had a lot of cases in all our Country.
We did a 4 months lock-down, from March to end of June.
On July the pandemic curve went down and we slowly re-opened stores, museums, cinema etc etc.
A face mask was required to go everywhere.
We had an August (and half September) relatively calm with very few cases.
Now, on October and November, we're experiencing a new explosion, a really strong second wave.
That's because people thought that pandemic was finished (but it wasn't true , as virologists always said).
And now things are out of control again and we're together really close to a new lock-down.
I think that only a vaccine and/or a cure is really effective against Sars-Cov2.
It seems that nations all over the world cannot learn simply by looking at each other worldwide.
Please be very careful, all of you.  C:-)

That's exactly the situation I'm fearing here, a third wave of infections after we think we've got it licked. Outside of Melbourne we seem to have it under control so far; most states haven't had new local infections for months and currently NSW is stamping out small outbreaks before they can spark new waves.

I agree a vaccine or cure is the only way we can properly prevent new waves, and I'm hoping that we get one soon.

Well I just tested positive for corronavirus as did my parents who I live with. Just great. An awful headache that can be managed with paracetamol is my only symptom at the moment but my parents have it worse. Also annoyed I cant walk my dog.

What makes it especially annoying is that we took every precaution. I only left the house to walk dog and occasionally to send things to post office. Everything that entered the house either from a physical shop or from online was hygienically wiped as it came in. Hands were washed with regularity, masks worn, my dad showered every time he came home from work and washed his clothes separately every day.

I hope it continues to stay mild for you all and that you have two weeks worth of entertainment in the house.

My mother and I were similarly cautious, but we still got it back in March. Turns out that we're "long haulers" so even though we don't have the virus anymore, we're still dealing with various symptoms and aftereffects. We're both high risk in multiple categories, though: asthmatics, and we both have heart abnormalities.

Fortunately, I live in a place where the majority of folks are taking it seriously. Most people wear masks when they're out, even when they're not in businesses that require it. None of our public schools opened for the fall semester, everything was done online, which is hard on parents who are trying to work from home, I know, but at least they're all safer.

I worry about my mom; she's back at home with my dad now, and where they live they're having another spike because people won't stop socializing and won't wear masks.

avatar_Gothmog the Baryonyx @Gothmog the Baryonyx My best wishes for recovery to you and your parents.

I am sincerely aware that 80% of the world population will eventually end up infected with the coronavirus. It is very difficult to prevent is what I call "putting doors to the field". I sincerely believe that there are two types of coronavirus in people: one that affects seriously and that can cause problems and even death in the event that you have other associated diseases and another that is mild and that for reasons that are not a person It affects you more than a cold or a mild flu can affect you, I think that is what happens to the vast majority of people who have overcome it. But what has been said, if it can be prevented much better. Ideally, the politicians of the respective countries collaborate with each other to solve the problem of the pandemic instead of being confronted from my humble point of view.

My best wishes to you, avatar_Gothmog the Baryonyx @Gothmog the Baryonyx, and your parents for a speedy and full recovery.

I'm amazed but not really surprised at the strength of the push against our new lockdown and indeed the imposition of any restrictions at all. It's as if many people here have no sense of social responsibility to others any more.

Sorry to hear that, avatar_Creature @Creature. I hope you and your mother complete your recoveries soon.

avatar_Creature @Creature My best wishes for recovery to you and yours. I'm so sorry that you got infected in the previous months.

There are many unscrupulous people who do not wear masks, I think it is out of unconsciousness rather than evil. There are people who do not believe that this COVID-19 pandemic virus is that serious or that they will never have it.

In the end they will have to confine us all at home as in last March. Due to the unconsciousness and selfishness of some people, we are going to pay for all of them and that will mean the financial ruin of many companies, especially the hospitality industry, which is still suffering. It's the sad reality. I wish I was wrong.

Creature

Thanks for the well-wishes.

Shonisaurus, I worry that you're right, and we will eventually have to have another lockdown. At least we'll all be better prepared if that happens.

Because, as I mentioned in a previous post, my coworker has tested positive, for reasons of prudence they have sent me to my home confined and I am going to do the PCR test in case I have Covid-19 or not, I will surely be confined for ten days like prevention measure to see if I have coronavirus or not, that is, if I test positive or not, which has disrupted my plans since I will have to order food online. All care is something more serious than it seems, although many to their great fortune do not have coronavirus.

I don't know what services you have where you are, but grocery delivery was super helpful when we were quarantined. They would just leave it at our door and we'd bring it inside when they left.

Thanks for your words. Fortunately I have a food store next to my home where I order meals and they even deliver it to me hot food so I don't have the need to cook. On the other hand, I have stores close to home, some with quite affordable prices. There I order uncooked food (to make). I will be confined until next November 10, when I will be able to leave, having no symptoms, so I will take the opportunity to study and do housework.

The most important thing is that you've not symptoms.
Everything will be ok, don't worry.

avatar_RobinGoodfellow @RobinGoodfellow Of course. Thanks for your kind words. Fortunately I'm fine. Hopefully the coronavirus nightmare will end one day.
