I like the Tyrantisaurus Rex colour scheme as a novelty, but even if it was available as an option, I'd stick with the Dino-Riders one, which is actually plausible in real life. I'm all for vivid colour schemes, but I don't buy for an instant that evolution would actually produce a purple-skinned dinosaur.

Well to be fair, it was half robot in the "World of MOTU".

I have a question. At this point, would it make more sense for David to relabel the Tarbosaurus as Zhuchengtyrannus? Based on what I've seen, I feel like the size and proportions overall fit that genus better. It also opens the door for him to do a proper sized Tarbo at some point in the future. Idk though, what do you guys think?

I don't think he can make any drastic changes at this point because so many people have paid for the product already.

I don't think it would be a good idea to relabel the Tarbosaurus Zhuchengtyrannus.  Its proportions are fine for Tarbosaurus and it differs from the little known of Zhuchengtyrannus in having a less curved maxilla.  Compare it with this: https://www.deviantart.com/franoys/art/Zhuchengtyrannus-magnus-skeletal-diagram-753110894

Additionally, the Tarbosaurus is one of the figures I would like to have, and I'd like it to be a Tarbosaurus, I'm not interested in having a Zhuchengtyrannus.  If I'm remembering right David was not keen on making a larger Tarbosaurus as he didn't think it would sell well.  In any case, if David decides to make a larger Tarbosaurus, that shouldn't be affected by the existing Tarbosaurus figure.

Zhuchengtyrannus' skull isn't fully known, but the fragments that do exist indicate that it was not identical to Tarbosaurus' skull. Relabelling it now would not only be unsound from a scientific perspective, but it would also come off as a slap in the face to many fans who pledged for Tarbosaurus.

I'll probably grab the Tarbosaurus all the same - it will probably pass as a full sized one in a different scale, after all.

I'm not that interested in Zhuchengtyrannus currently until we find more of it. The only minute appeal it has at all to for me is that it lived alongside Sinoceratops.

I would prefer the Tarbosaurus stay Tarbosaurus. It may be small, but I'm fine with that. It's still a gorgeous figure, and one I want to get later on.

As many of you may have seen, this Tyrantisaurus Rex- inspired BotM T. rex made an appearance over the weekend at Power-Con and I just wanted to follow up about it. I've been wanting to make one of these for myself for some time now, and of course Power-Con seemed like the perfect place to show it off! That being said, I do want to confirm that this was NOT a product announcement, but just an example of what can be done with the Grey T. rex as that is what I began with. It's been really interesting seeing all of the positive reactions to it though, both on-line and at the show (even if many people were mistaking it for Beast Wars Megatron.) Also, I documented my paint progress as I was going, so I hope to put together a tutorial for this in the near future for those that want to paint their own.
And don't expect to see any additional photos of the final piece- I was made an offer I couldn't refuse at the show, so this one has a new home now.

You're hardly at fault. The Powers of Grayskull spinoff line was cancelled before it really took off. Tyrantisaurus Rex, Bionatops, and Turbodactyl were the only toys ever released, and not for very long.

I see people are bothered by that "hood" thing on the neck, but someone said it was not so bad. I do not think it is so bad either. Seams are always going to be a thing with articulated figures.

Was the unpainted Tyrannosaurus available for Kickstarter donors only? I cannot see it in the store, and the 1/18th scale ceratopsians and raptors still say they are for pre-order. How are others getting them?

Currently finishing up the new paint masters for the Beasts of the Mesozoic T. rex figures after having the previous ones lost in the mail. Not something I've ever had happen before, but it has given me an opportunity to make subtle improvements over the originals.
