David Silva's Beasts of the Mesozoic Tyrannosaur Series

avatar_Ravonium @Ravonium He said the feathered ones would probably have color schemes derived from birds of prey.

I made a suggestion over on instagram that I'd like to see the exclusive rex colored like the Beast Wars Megatron (which I had the toy of back in the day when the show was fresh on TV), or the Kenner 1993 Tyrannosaurus (if not the later 1997 versions such as the Thrasher or Bull), which are easily some of the best retro T. rex toys out there.

I'm absolutely in love with these colorations he picked so far though. I'm very curious to see how the eventual concept art will turn out.

Here's the image and a quote of the description in case anyone wants to see it here rather then on FB, etc (I'll edit and add this to the front page as well):

QuoteMany of you have been interested to know what the color inspirations will look like for the upcoming Beasts of the Mesozoic: Tyrannosaur Series, so here they are!
This is something that I've been giving a lot of attention to lately and as you can see, there are more here than I have planned figures, so some may not be used or some may be combined. For this series, I'm  looking at modern predatory, terrestrial reptiles- mostly snakes. Keep in mind that as with the Ceratopsian color inspirations, these will merely be starting points and guides for the color designs, but not necessarily direct applications of these patterns. I'm still in the process of matching each species up to a color scheme, but I'm pretty pleased with this selection of reference. I may also incorporate some birds of prey inspiration as well for the feathered species.
As for the Kickstarter exclusive: it will be a repaint of the 1/35th scale Tyrannosaurus Rex. The colors however are undecided, and that's where I want you all to tell me what you would like to see! The inspiration could be from a pop culture reference, another animal, or a famous work of art. Please share your best idea in the comments, click 'like' on the ones you think are best and the top five will be put to a vote next week! Also if there's any color inspirations that you think I should consider for the main line, let me know as well. Thanks everyone!

There is no way for me to give him feedback as I am not a Kickstarter supporter and don't have Facebook either.

But I wish/hope they won't go all literal on the birds again. Some of the raptors looked too much like recent birds to me, like color swaps. It worked well on some but others looked too familiar for me.
I know a lot of people loved the natural bird colors, so I can't fault Mr. Silva if he just did it again.
But I would favor a combination of several animals this time around, not yet again an extant avian coat wrapped around an extinct avian.
This sounds more negative than I intended. Believe me, I am happy with the paint on all the raptors.
But I would have gotten more if not for the odd familiarity with some of the colors and patterns.

As for the image posted, I am super excited to see which will be which. I really like the turquoise they are using, so whatever animal will be the turquoise one is probably going on my wantlist :D

Will you give an indication of cloaca in your tyrannosaurs?

Just an FYI these are all fan-run threads, David isn't actually here. I went to his Facebook and looked through his photos of the Ceratopsians and found this picture

Which looks like it displays a cloaca, so the Tyrannosaurs will probably have them too I would think.

Surprised no one on here had already posted this  ??? :

If there was only going to be one gamebird, happy to see it's my favorite one!

I wonder which tyrannosauroids will match up with which schemes.

Also still hoping that T. rex gets paired up with either the bushmaster or the eastern diamondback rattler. Or perhaps a species of kingsnake.

I forgot to post about it sorry. I can add it to the front post.

I also did comment on the instagram page earlier about how I would like to see Guanlong or Proceratosaurus have their colorations based on the Cassowary or Golden Pheasant (granted I'm aware Dinosaur Revolution did have a cassowary colored Gaunlong, so it has been done before, but then so has Velociraptor been colored like the bearded vulture many times before). I'm also wondering if the Yutyrannus will be based on the white bird, if not the Osprey or Stellar's Sea Eagle, even if white Yutyrannus is something of a meme at times.

I also love a lot of these birds, in particular the Harris Hawk, Osprey, Stellar's Sea Eagle, Cassowary, and Golden Pheasant, so I'm going to want whatever ends up being based on those likely.

Spinodude just posted a video confirming two Tyrannosaur colorations: Cassowary for Guanlong and the Stellar's Sea Eagle for Yutyrannus.

Faelrin

I just posted about wanting to see these two with those colorations just a bit ago, lol. I am quite the happy guy now. And now I need to edit the front post again with this information. Thanks for sharing it avatar_DragonRider02 @DragonRider02

Guanlong is high on my list but that entire cassowary theme is too on the nose for me, I hope there will be some changes (especially on the head, I don't want a bald guanlong :P)
Now I'm interested in what animals the pheasant and myna will go to.

Beast Wars Megatron?! Yeeeees. I doubt he'll win against JP, but nice!

suspsy

I voted for Megatron. And you should too. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

I literally love all of these, but I have the most nostalgia for the Beast Wars Megatron and the WWD ones. I'm going to have to pick A (and did so over on instagram), because it would be nice to have a tribute figure to one of the ones I played with growing up with (I never did have any of the Kenner rexes as a kid, despite my love for them now as an adult), and quite frankly it was one of the best T. rex based toys I have had the opportunity of owning. I will be happy with any of these though.

I voted for the WWD colourscheme (although that's mostly because, being Gen Z, that's the only one which I was familiar with when I was younger).

Also nice to see that Silva chose Guanlong for the cassowary-inspired colourscheme.

DragonRider02

I voted for Megatron. There aren't many purple dinosaur models

Loon

I cant say I really care for most of these; but, it's an exclusive repaint, so hopefully whatever the final choice is makes people happy. I know several people that would be really happy if the Megatron or Red Rex colors are picked.

I actually think the WWD Tyrannosaurus would work pretty well, especially if the main color scheme doesn't turn out great.

Also, I'm biased of course, but I'm a little upset neither of these guys were options:

Also, what is D?

Also, what is D?

I had to look it up initially as well; it's 'Tyrantisaurus Rex' from 'The Powers Of Grayskull' (He-Man spinoff)

EmperorDinobot

I voted Megatron too. I mean, it's kind of a no-brainer.
