Will wait a few days, but will probably grab a couple. Especially now Megalograptus is available.

The Silurian period miniatures have been added to the pick your own tier, so if anyone's been holding off because they can't afford the $130 pledge, but want some of those eurypterids, etc, please go ahead and pledge if you can. The Devonian ones looks like they'll be added by the 25th. Only 3 days left.

Looks like this one got off to a quick start, but hasn't made much fundraising since. It was about 80% funded with 5 days to go, but now there's only two days left and no one has made a pledge since. You couldn't ask for a greater diversity of species, and the creator has now added the option to buy any of the critters that strike your fancy individually.

If I was still on social media I would be sure to share this project in the dinosaur model groups I used to be in. Has anyone done this?

I shared it through the Dinotoyblog's Twitter and Facebook accounts, and my personal Twitter, too.

I posted an update on my Instagram just now explaining everything from the Ordovician to Devonian has been added to the pick your own tiers, as well as that there is now a revised version of the rulebook. Added a lot more tags this time too, in hoping to spread it as much as possible.

I'm also planning on posting a huge list later today on everything offered currently, with a brief description (such as if it is a sponge, trilobite, etc), as well what genera already have existing options (to my knowledge). The vast majority of these unfortunately don't.

Another edit: I've added a link to the kickstarter to my instagram profile, as well as a link to the list I've made below:

Edit: Alright here is the list. If you're looking for a type of animal, I've specified how many per period, and sorted the various periods genera as well. Hopefully I don't have any errors, but I'll try to double check after posting this (such as numbers being off, periods, etc).

Here it is:

Wow, that's a very impressive effort, avatar_Faelrin @Faelrin, thanks for going to the trouble!

I find this image quite arresting: this is what the 'Museum' tier pledge gets you:

I think this photo emphasizes that there has already been a lot of work put into this, such that all 268 prototypes are already made. My understanding is that this campaign is to raise funds for molding supplies. (Casting in epoxy uses relatively inexpensive silicone molds; someone asked me if this could be done in PVC, but PVC requires steel molds, which are extremely expensive--this campaign's goal would probably only get you a handful, or maybe only one if it were a complex mold with multiple miniatures on a sprue).

If you and I know each other, and you'd like to pledge for this but don't have the funds right now, I'll consider lending you the money to pledge. That's how bad I want this to succeed. (I've already pledged myself, obviously)

That really puts it into perspective. Consider that the museum pledge is $499, so that works out at $1.86 per figure, and of course the game and other gubbins is also included in that price. It seems like a really good deal! Are my calculations correct?

Amazon ad:

DinoToyForum

However, I must admit I am still confused. Items in the various pledge lists include "Boss miniatures", "Plant miniatures",  "Origin characters", and just "Characters". For example, the museum pledge in the sidebar lists:

Life (core game)
25 Boss miniatures
6 Origin characters
4 player base
19 Plant miniatures
224 Characters

In the image for the museum pledge, above this list, it also says "Core Game + Predators + Plant + Characters".

Is there any practical difference between "miniatures" and "characters" or are those terms interchangeable? Are those "224 characters" listed in addition to the aforementioned characters/miniatures, or is that the total including the aforementioned characters? since "predators" and "plants" are listed separately to "characters" in the images, does that mean the Predators and Plants are not Characters? Maybe I can't get my head around it because I don't understand how the game works but it is all rather confusing on the face of it and putting me off of making a pledge, though I really want to!

bmathison1972

I might bite the bullet and get the museum pledge, also because I think it is the only way to get painted figures (I don't want to have to paint myself).

I'm interested. But I still find it too baffling to navigate.

avatar_DinoToyForum @dinotoyforum  Boss miniatures = all Predators in every eras (Gold coins = Top level creatures with 3 stars). That is a boss you have to defeat all of them in the game to win that era.

Plant miniatures = Dangeroust plant that set up with the Predator miniatures. (Red coins=Aggressive hunt you and Purple coins = It poison you) It can hit you when you move int to the area that have these dangerous plants.

Characters = normal characters like Silvel coins = 2 star class.  and Bronze coins = 1 star class (Basic class) and Green plants = (Green coins) you can heal or rebirth here , Blue plants = (Blue coins) It is safe place from another player. If you play in not co-op the player can attack player. You can hide here.

Origin characters = The start of your characters, It is cell that can evolve into bronze coin class.

Characters = Creatures and plants

Museum pledge is All pledge miniatures insede

Sorry to confuse I try to find the best translate software but the result like this.  :D . That I need people to make it easy to understand.

I will fix this to easy for understand.

Halichoeres

It is a little confusing, especially if you haven't encountered Kickstarter campaigns for tabletop games before. Maybe I can help clarify.

The core game includes only the 6 "origin of life" miniatures, the little primordial ooze balls (some could pass for stromatolites?) from which you evolve. You can play most game modes without any other miniatures. Those 6 aren't included in the 268 total.

Higher game tiers include the "top predators" (aka "boss miniatures"), which are 25 larger-than-the-rest miniatures, 4-6 per period, that can menace your main character in some game modes. The "Explorer" tier also includes 19 "plants" miniatures, which are actually sessile invertebrates that serve as hazards in some game modes (they can eat your character).

The museum pledge includes the other 224 miniatures, unpainted. (224 characters + 19 plants + 25 boss/predator = 268 altogether). The core game pledge with no miniatures is $55, so the unit price per miniature is $1.66.

The painted museum pledge includes all of these painted. With a core price of $55 again, the unit price per painted miniature is $7.26.

It might also interest people to know that the creator has 1800 total miniatures mapped out for expansion, running all the way to the Pleistocene. Backing this would be a good way to make those a reality if you're more into Mesozoic or Cenozoic (or terrestrial, for that matter) taxa. This initial offering only includes 5 fully terrestrial organisms as far as I can tell (3 plants and 2 scorpions).

[edit: basically just echoed what O @Oammararak said above]

I've just made a small pledge to help it along.
Interested in some of the Cambrian figures. If it succeeds, it's something I'll probably return to from time, so fingers crossed it makes the minimum threshold.

Thanks for the explanation O @Oammararak (and avatar_Halichoeres @Halichoeres ), it shows that my confusion partly comes from not fully understanding the game yet, but that's my responsibility! I will digest all the materials you have provided. That new image is very helpful, super-simple! It would still be useful to give the total number of characters, however.

By the way, I'm a palaeontologist, I work on Jurassic marine reptiles (see my plesiosaur website: https://plesiosauria.com), so if you ever get to the Jurassic ocean as part of this game I would be delighted to help you out (for free) should you want any specialist input. :)

I'm also toying with the museum pledge, but the $499 museum pledge rather than the $2000 pre-painted museum pledge. I like monochrome models more anyway!

Thank you for your support and information.  I try Facebook ADS but no more pledge from this.

ceratopsian

I'm still struggling. I'm hoping someone can lead me by the hand!

I don't want the game, just some of the miniatures/little models. I haven't decided which ones. But likely to be Precambrian and Cambrian.

Am I correct in thinking that if I go for the first option with reward, $1 or more with access to pledge manager later, that means I simply pledge a certain amount now? Then I decide what I actually want if the project gets funded.

Does anyone know if you can add more at the pledge manager stage if your original pledge isn't enough for what you eventually decide on?

Am I correct in understanding that if I go for the $1 or more pick what you want option, then I choose now what I want and pledge accordingly?

So that is the only difference between the two different $1 options?  They are both really pick what you want, it's just a matter of when you settle on the little models?

Many thanks for any clarification!

I went in for the Museum pledge. It might be more cost effective for me to buy them individually since there are a few organisms I don't collect, but I really want this project to succeed. And I'm really excited about the prospect of some Carboniferous and Triassic critters down the road.
