Hahaha, Martin to the rescue indeed! The Chasmosaurus should be less than the trike based on what Shane has told me. DK's trike might be the least expensive if that does come out in 1/40. I guess time will tell. The only thing we know for sure is that if your diorama works out...it's gonna blow DTF members' minds lool.

Oh yeah !

With Martin's help I think anything could work. ;)

At the moment I hope to have doing a 1/1 JP Raptor for me soon. ;D

Triceratops was not a wildebeest, nor did it move like one. Remember to look at the actual  fossils and see how massive they were i have stood inside the ribcage of one and im 6'5'' tall and see where the restrictions of their movements were. The forelimbs ,the Humerous or upper front leg bone could not go any further forward than complete vertical position when you mount them in a semi-sprawl which aligns the front feet just outside the rear trackways . You cant contort an animals stance to make it do what you want it to do if it doesnt fit within the trackways, thats why tracks are so important, they tell us the stance of the animal and can give us an idea of speed and style of locomotion .

Well yes. I agree on all points.

The problem is there is really nothing to compare them too that exists now. My wildebeest analogy is simply to get the idea across of what I'm thinking. The crossing of  a flooded river is a popular image in paleo art. Whose to say large animals can't be more quick and nimble ? Size doesn't matter really. I also expect if there were extremes of movement this would be one of the rare instances where they would be giving it there all.

Well you can contort them..scientists have been doing it for years..it's just not right really.

To my knowledge we don't have tracks of triceratops moving as herd when crossing a river.  If they couldn't move well enough they may not have ventured into the water at all right ? So the whole concept might be fiction in the end :))

Yeah, I mean, I certainly understand Shane's point, which is why I initially said that I don't know if Shane's interpretation of Triceratops (or the real creature itself for that matter) could engage in activities such as jumping. However, I do like Blade's point about this particular setting probably bringing out extremes in motion in these ceratopsians. I think one could reasonably expect injuries to occur during such a crossing. Realistically, I still don't think a trike could jump, but artistically, I think that would make one awesome diorama!
If the sculptor has nothing but science his hands will have no art.

Sorry if this was already mentioned, but this painting by G.S. Paul I think shows a messy river crossing scene. BTW I love this painting and wish I could get a large framed piece.  :)) Your model idea is a cool one Blade.

Tylosaurus

That's an awesome art of them Monoclonius' aka Centrosaurus'es! An epic event that took place way back heh

Yeah that you can man, it would be nice to get a larger picture of that art @ 1920 x 1200 for example, would be awesome for a wall paper ;)

It's a great piece Melissa..and one of the ones I was thinking of. ;D

I think I'm starting to take this off topic..so I'll wait til I actually commission something. :)

Yeah, Im sure Triceratops could cross rivers thats not whats in question ,more so the extreme pose is. But its a model so you can do artisticly what you like, but you mentioned real life movement and how it plays into your ideas and i was just sharing the physiology of Triceratops to you.  :)

I appreciate that bud, by real life movement I was thinking more of living animals and how they move instead of extinct ones. You know though what seems implausible now might be easily acceptable later. All part of the fun of taking either road when it comes to Dinosaurs. :)

A few of those 1/35 Triceratops could make a lovely herd diorama. I'd like to know how much this piece will cost. hmmm
