Good News! Been talking with Chap Mei...

Chap Mei have said they are looking into the future possibility of producing more accurate Dinosaur and Prehistoric animal figures.

to quote them: "I have talked with R&D department before and they are very interest about accurate dinosaur and sea animals"

and

"yea! Indeed ! We are thinking of it"

this would mean more accurate 1:18th animals in chap mei's iconic style, which would be fantastic.

i have, as you may know, already been designing some animals for chap mei that they are working with currently, but this would mean in future i would be able to design more accurate versions of iconic animals we are used to seeing be made, (Tyrannosaurids, Sauropods, Dromaeosaurs) but with iconic colour schemes from things like the Walking With franchise... (who wouldn't want a big Al action figure with non pronated wrists and more accurate anatomy?? or a WWD Utahraptor with feathers and wings??)

as well as animals we don't often see made into toys, let alone action figures (xenacanthus, ambulocetus, and secodontosaurus just to name a few...)

this is all down to audience reaction though, you guys come in by simply commenting here with positive feedback to this idea that i can give back to them! the more the better, and feel free to share this around too!

thanks ever so much!!

that sounds very interesting. im all for it!
"you know you have a lot of prehistoric figures if you have at least twenty items per page of the prehistoric/dinosaur section on ebay." - anon.

Hadn't been interested in Chap Mei figures due to their monstrous look. But if these figures were more accurate, or if Chap Mei were willing to do some obscure species, then they would definitely have my interest. Would serve to be great opportunities for education as well.

Primeval12

I will buy any figure you design for them.

andrewsaurus rex

Definitely interested if the realism is there.  Chap Mei stuff is fun but rather cartoonish in appearance, which  is totally fine as it's a toy line for children and very popular.  Accurate 1/18-ish figures....i'm in all the way.  :)

Joke aside I'd love to see chap mei producing accurate figures. I can't even believe it's a possibility.

Could be good, but let's see how truthful they are about it.

stoneage

So your planning on doing Sauropods in 1/18?

Halichoeres

Intriguing, if it's not just the general appeasement you often get from companies' customer service. The most likely scenario in which I actually buy these is if it's a brand new taxon for me (such as the Secodontosaurus you mentioned).
In the kingdom of the blind, better take public transit. Well, in the kingdom of the sighted, too, really--almost everyone is a terrible driver.

i'll cross that bridge when i come to it  ;D

see the plan is to try and point out the success of mattel's Brachiosaurus and apatosaurus and try to  convince them to as well as design the current animals im working on for them (the marine reptiles and stuff) get something similar made.

imagine the titanosaurs from prehistoric park, or the diplodocus from Walking with Dinosaurs, but more accurate and in the style of chap mei!!

that's the goal, just need the vocal support...

exactly my thoughts! they are being very helpful (by letting me be helpful to them lol) and communicative so far, i think this could turn out great and be a real turning point for chap mei...

ikr??
ive been passionate about chap mei since i was 4 years old. this has been a desire of mine for a long time.
i woke up one day and decided to do something about it.
here i am now doing freelance work for them (i cannot work under employment status as they cannot hire overseas currently, but we agreed i can draw concepts and help with design regardless)
and i look forward to seeing chap mei produce more accurate animals!!

doing my best!!
im very passionate about odd species too,
just need all the vocal support i can get!
everytime someone expresses their interest to buy a product i've designed, the chances of the design team sticking to my designs and opening the way for more accurate and obscure animals in future gets boosted by a significant amount, so i appreciate all of the support :))
