Proceratosaurus (Beasts of the Mesozoic Tyrannosaur series by Creative Beast Studios)

…any Proceratosaurus figures out there. I am only aware of this figure, the Mattel figures, and the mini from PNSO. CollectA has one too, made in 2011. Mattel already gave us a Sinotyrannus, and a Kileskus is coming out soon, so this really was the year of the proceratosauria. I think that David Silva made a great choice when including small bodied tyrannosauroids to the collection, and Proceratosaurus was a deserved, and long overdue figure. That…

Triceratops (Jurassic Park 2009 by Hasbro)

…(unless you were unfortunate enough to lose the skin pieces). I sure hope Mattel doesn’t continue this trend. The sculpting on this toy is decent enough. The hide combines scales, wrinkles, and flat osteoderms and the beak, horns, and epocippitals are covered in grooves. For the most part, this is a fairly accurate Triceratops, but the feet commit the common error of having claws on every single digit. The frill is also too flat and rounded. And…

Dimetrodon (Jurassic World: Dominion Captivz by ToyMonster)

…ic used and the attention to detail, both of which are far superior to the Mattel Jurassic World minis. The plastic is somewhat rigid with a small degree of give and not at all brittle. The figure has some nice detail work, including defined spines along the back to support the sail, five distinct digits on each limb, and miniscule, differentiated teeth. There are nice skin folds and creases along the limb joints and torso and rows of scutes run a…

Ouranosaurus (Haolonggood)

…ore unique. I don’t need more green dinosaurs on my shelf, and I also have Mattel’s Ouranosaurus which has a similar paintjob to Haolonggood’s green variant. This one is advertised as a “brick red” variant but I would say it’s more of a dull pinkish orange. A sharp demarcation on the flanks divides the orange body from a pinkish-white underside. Brownish stripes and splotches add some complexity to the paintjob. The beak is orange and beautifully…

Buitreraptor with Wetlands Environment Accessory Pack (Beasts of the Mesozoic: Raptor Series by Creative Beast Studio)

…from the Beasts of the Mesozoic Raptor Series, having been caught up with Mattel’s Jurassic World figures. But with the next Beasts of the Mesozoic Kickstarter campaign only a few months away, it is time I come back and give some much needed attention to this precious line of highly articulated, highly detailed, and mostly scientifically accurate figures. For this review I will be focusing on the Wetlands Environment Accessory Pack featuring (1/6…

Dilophosaurus (Electronic Deluxe)(Terra Series by Battat)

…light up. The sound effects are decidedly inferior to the ones produced by Mattel’s Roarivore and Savage Strike toys, although I can see kids still getting a kick out of this feature. But as you can plainly see from these images, this toy leaves much to be desired. First off, the right side has no less than six wretchedly ugly screwholes, just like the ones that possibly helped cause Hasbro to lose the Jurassic World license. Second and more impor…

Tyrannocon Rex (Transformers: Collaborative by Hasbro)

…not dissimilar to rubber. It imitates the “Real Feel” feature shown on the Mattel Jurassic World toys while also not being too pliable. The back boasts some larger scales, probably to imitate some back armour. Looks-wise, it might have some wonky proportions, such as clown feet and a midget tail, but that is accurate to BW Megatron, and having a larger tail would mean having a disproportionately larger claw weapon in robot mode. The tail can be ma…

Stegosaurus (Jurassic Park Series 1 by Kenner)

…ny as being the best Jurassic Park toys ever produced, even in the wake of Mattel and their Jurassic World line. Most of that original line has been reviewed on the blog, but not the Stegosaurus. Why is that? Well it might be because as far as the Kenner toys are concerned, the Stegosaurus might be the worst the line has to offer. Measuring 13” in length the toy certainly has size going for it, and it’s also made out of the same “real feel” rubber…

Albertosaurus (Wild Safari by Safari Ltd.)

…t nothing that meets our modern sensibilities. And of course, there is the Mattel one, which I have, but it does not satisfy the itch for a scientific figurine for my display cabinet. But all that changed in 2022 when Safari released their figure of the genus, sculpted by the masterful Doug Watson. The Safari Albertosaurus stands 4” tall to the top of the head and measures about 10.5” long. The actual Albertosaurus measured about 26-30’ (8-9 meter…

Dilophosaurus (Jurassic Park 25th Anniversary, Pop! Movies by Funko)

…f the movie’s Dilophosaurus, or more screen accurate figures like those by Mattel. With the frill being a major focal point on this toy I would have liked a more elaborate paintjob. The dull red crest is only painted on its outside surface and the inside is the same color as the body. You don’t have to worry about misprinted eyes though, since the eye orbits are highlighted in black anyway. The teeth are white and the tongue and skin at the corner…

Sinoceratops (A-Qi) (Prehistoric Animal Models by PNSO)

…e most dinosaurs popularized by the Jurassic franchise. In addition to the Mattel action figures Nanmu also produced a Sinoceratops in the likeness of the film’s version. With increased popularity it seems likely that other mainstream companies will produce Sinoceratops too, and I’m sure CollectA or Safari will tackle the genus with accurate takes eventually. But PNSO has beaten them to the punch with their own Sinoceratops released in 2020, a fol…

Gallimimus (Schleich)

…thout being sculpted in a tripod pose or mounted on a base are the ones by Mattel, and we all know how badly they score in the accuracy category. Nevertheless, this Gallimimus looks rather awkward and uncomfortable posed this way.  With the CollectA Struthiomimus. With the CollectA Deluxe Deinocheirus and Beishanlong. The main colour here is dark grey, as it’s used for the plumage covering most of the Gallimimus’ body, with a slightly darker shade…

Pteranodon (Electronic Alpha, Jurassic Park III, by Hasbro)

…uld not see a Pteranodon this big until the basic sized Pteranodon figures Mattel made for Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom and Dominion, which I reviewed here. The colors are great, too. This was one of the first time we ever got to see that multi-color plastic effect that gives the wings this wonderful black pattern atop the dark indigo blue plastic, with some white spray on the rear part of the membrane. It looks like the sea at night. The body is…

Ampelosaurus (1:35 Scientific Art and Model by Haolonggood)

…a lot of attention in figure/toy form but has been previously produced by Mattel, CollectA, and a miniature version by PNSO. Today, we will be looking at the 2023 version by Haolonggood, a rapidly-rising company out of China. The figure measures roughly 39.5 cm, not accounting for curvatures of the body. Because of the uncertainty of fossils attributed to the genus, I was not sure what metrics to use for calculating scale. Using the left ulna as…

Pentaceratops (Haolonggood)

…hat its unique frame is not as apparent as it is in other figures by Papo, Mattel, Favorite, and Beasts of the Mesozoic, and the hump, while there, is barely visible. This bulked up body looks convincing, but it would have been nice if a bit more of Pentaceratops’s unusual build shined through. Digit anatomy appears correct with the forelimbs splayed slightly outward and possessing only three weight bearing clawed digits and two reduced clawless d…

Dreadnoughtus (CollectA)

…, at least in a relative standard size, following the behemoth produced by Mattel in 2022 for the Jurassic World line. The maximum dimensions of this figure are approximately 31 cm long and 23.5 cm tall. Interpreting where bones begin and end can sometimes be challenging in a fleshed out model but using the ulna as a metric (n=2.0 cm) the scale comes to 1:50.5. Using the femur as a metric (n=3.0 cm) scale comes to 1:63.7. Using the tibia as a metr…

Mosasaurus and Diver Imaginext (Jurassic World by, Fisher-Price)

3.2 (6 votes) With Mattel taking over the Jurassic World franchise from Hasbro, it has produced better toys when you compare the two lines. As for the Imaginext vs the Playschool Heroes Jurassic World lines they come across much closer in quality and style. With their ridiculous big feet to aid in stability, and the simple, yet overdone accessories the Imaginext series is intended for preschoolers. While two and three year old’s might feel the th…

Deinonychus (Kabaya)

…r to make the bonus figure, a similar gimmick to Hasbro’s Marvel Legends & Mattel’s DC Universe. The figures included two Tyrannosaurs, (one green the other red but sculpted differently from each other) Deinonychus, Spinosaurus, Triceratops and the bonus dinosaur, the Seisomosaurus (which is now named Diplodocus hallorum)! They range from several inches tall and several inches long but the Seismosaurus is the longest at around seven inches in leng…

Tyrannosaurus (Safari Ltd.)

…ys a biting and lunging attack that’s actually quite similar to the recent Mattel Carnotaurus. The toy is specifically modeled to be held and used like a toy gun of sorts. As a result the trigger is quite large and obvious but easy to use. The toy is made out of brittle hollow plastic. On mine it’s apparent that one of the feet has already broken off and been glued back on. I’m hesitant to call it cheap but it’s certainly not the kind of toy you c…

Baryonyx (Favorite Co. Ltd.)

…honour has gone to Baryonyx, being the recipient of figures from Favorite, Mattel, Mojo, and CollectA. I have reviewed an older CollectA Baryonyx here and in hindsight, I was far too lenient on it than I would be now, especially in light of the superior quality of some of these new arrivals – the Favorite and CollectA have really upped the bar in terms of naturalistic representations. The earlier versions from CollectA are quite the misshapen mont…
