Styracosaurus (Prehistoric Scenes by Aurora)

…you on various prehistoric and extinct animal products by CollectA, LEGO, Mattel, Papo, PNSO, Safari, and other companies. And this review is particularly special, because it is in fact my 200th! You may recall that the subjects for my 99th and 100th reviews were the Aurora Prehistoric Scenes Allosaurus and Tyrannosaurus rex respectively. Aurora products aren’t easy to find, at least not here in Ottawa, Ontario, so I didn’t imagine I’d ever be ac…

Tyrannosaurus rex (Age of the Dinosaurs by PNSO)

…around 40 cm long and 25 cm tall, making her one of the biggest non-Hasbro/Mattel T. rex figures in recent memory. She is posed somewhat heretically in an upright tripod stance, yet unlike certain other tripodal theropod toys, she doesn’t look stiff and static. Her massive tail is twitching upwards, her right leg is taking a large step forward, her head is looking to the left, and her mighty jaws are open to the maximum in a hiss or a bellow. Comb…

Dracorex (Schleich)

…ild Safari, the one from CollectA/Procon, and the JW:FK Dino Rivals one by Mattel. But in my opinion, this new Schleich version easily beats them all out. The figure stands 11 cm tall and 18.5 cm long and is sculpted in a standing pose with its mouth open and its head and tail pointing upwards. You can easily imagine it quietly browsing on some plants, or perhaps calling its companions to warn them of the presence of some predator. Its coloration…

Brachiosaurus (Jurassic Park III Re-Ak A-Tak wave 2, by Hasbro)

…compare it to the early Kenner toys and the current ones being produced by Mattel . Even after saying that, I am happy to report that all my kids Hasbro Jurassic World toys are still functioning and have yet to break. Even now I guess I just can’t help being positive. With that being said, does this Brachiosaurus deserve our love and devotion or is it just a piece of movie memorabilia that only a few people find worthy for the shelf. Lets take a c…

Sinoceratops baby A-QI (PNSO)

…enus had appeared in toy form from Japan, and of course most recently from Mattel and Nanmu. So, how does this little thing hold up? For starters, it is super cute! When I first opened the box, I found myself smiling and “aww-ing”. Baby animals are designed to look “cute”; this is by nature a way to elicit caring or “maternal/paternal” instinct from adults to care for and dote on the little one. PNSO really captured this, successfully striking a b…

Tyrannosaurus rex (2019)(Electronic Deluxe by Chap Mei)

…painted. The claws are not painted either, but neither are the ones on the Mattel Jurassic World toys.  The T. rex’s skin is covered in many different types of scales ranging from small ones on the head to big ones on the body and limbs. The body also features pointed osteoderms almost like those on an ankylosaur. But there are many things far more inaccurate than that, sadly. The head should be wider and the eyes should face forward more. The arm…

Triceratops (2022)(Deluxe by CollectA)

…sian horns like these as opposed to overtextured ones like on the Papo and Mattel Hammond Collection versions. “Hmmm. Could it be possible that I committed a serious tactical blunder by engaging in a direct frontal assault?” The skin texture on Donnybrook’s torso is even more elaborate. The rounded scales covering the underbelly, the tail, and the lower sections of the limbs are relatively uniform, but the ones on the upper limb sections and the f…

Triceratops (1:18 Scale)(Beasts of the Mesozoic by Creative Beast Studio)

…Here is Safari Ltd.’s herd. All sculpted by the very talented Doug Watson. Mattel’s always-way-too-small Triceratops. I don’t think they’re ever going to give us a proper size figure as evidenced by the Hammond Collection Trike. Now this is how you do a proper 1:18 scale one! Here is Eofauna’s Triceratops, which is another great figure. It is absolutely dwarfed by the BotM Trike. Nanmu’s herd. These are by far the best choice for affordable JP-ins…

Wiwaxia (Paleozoic Pals)

…e it back. It’s also a nice change of pace since I’ve reviewed nothing but Mattel Jurassic World toys since March! There’s not a lot to say about this plush though. It’s basically a soft purple ball with black spines coming off its sides. The main body is textured to look like the overlapping, scaled plates known as sclerites that Wiwaxia had. The underside is flat, black, and without detail, mimicking the unarmored body that would have looked lik…

Majungasaurus (Wild Safari by Safari Ltd.)

…Masiakasaurus and Carnotaurus. With other Safari Ltd. dinosaurs. Albertosaurus, Sauropelta, Baryonyx, and Regaliceratops. With the Mattel Jurassic World Majungasaurus….

Edmontosaurus (Deluxe by CollectA)

…und that E. regalis bore a fleshy comb atop its head. Both Safari Ltd. and Mattel included this comb on their 2020 toys, but yet another very intriguing discovery would come to light that very same year. Which brings us to CollectA’s 2022 Deluxe Edmontosaurus.  Like most modern hadrosaur toys, this one is sculpted in a quadrupedal walking stance. The right front limb is raised in mid-step while the left hind one is extended back. The tail is swayi…

Carcharodontosaurus (GR Toys by Haolonggood)

…he brow and nasal bridge. Comparison with a different “blue version”, from Mattel’s Jurassic World line – two very distinct styles (and price points) When the first photos were published of the models, collectors were understandably skeptical of whether the mass-produced models could match the intricacy of the prototypes. Clearly, however, a lot of care went into the paint process for this figure to maintain the quality advertised. The minute eyes…

Beasts of the Mesozoic Avaceratops (ceratopsian series)

…supposed to do this in the beginning of March, almost a few days after my Mattel Avaceratops review. But I will tell you more as we go on. Let us look at the box. Standard BOTM box, we do not even have to discuss it. I threw it away kind of soon though, I needed the space bad, and I am a loose collector. But at least I got the credits, which are almost always the same. All ceratopsians come with a card though, and I apologize for the bad picture…

Dimorphodon (Jurassic World by Hasbro)

…World range. It’s fairly sturdy with this one having been subjected to three years of play and still working (we’ll see how long it lasts with my daughter) and it’s fun to play with for the younger set. That said, the Mattel Dimorphodon I reviewed previously is far better proportioned, properly in scale with other toys in the line, displays better, and is ultimately a lot more fun even with the lack of intricate electronics….

Edmontosaurus (Schleich)(2023)

…designs, as Schleich has frequently done in the past. Crossing paths with Mattel’s version – also based on the JW concept art, but with noticeably different results. Ironically, Schleich’s Edmontosaurus might have benefited from more than just coloration imitation from the Evolution game. Based closely on artwork provided by paleoartist Julius Csotonyi for the original Jurassic World movie website, Evolution’s creature model is pretty up-to-date…

Brachiosaurus (Conquering the Earth by Schleich)

…making it around the same scale as your average run of the Mill Toy Car by Mattel. The colours on this model are simply different shades of green. The base is light green while the scales are dark green with some traces of light green painted on them. The eyes are orange and the teeth are all painted white, with a red tongue sculpted inside the mouth. The claws are black and the bottom of the figure is painted in a greenish beige. Overall, I can…

Tarbosaurus (Chuanzi) (Prehistoric Animal Models by PNSO)

…re and expensive. The year 2020 also saw the release of a Tarbosaurus from Mattel but that one is a Jurassic World action figure that doesn’t scratch the itch for a scientifically accurate and lifelike model. That brings us to Chuanzi, PNSO’s Tarbosaurus released in 2021, the only satisfactory option for a nice scale model of Tarbosaurus and the subject of today’s review. Chuanzi measures 12.5” (37.75 cm) long and stands 4” (10.16 cm) tall to the…

Alioramus (Age of the Dinosaurs by PNSO)

…nnosaur, and Alioramus has very few media appearances and toys to its name. At present, the only other existing ones are the ones by CollectA and Mattel. As such, Gala is a most welcome addition to my collection….

Tarbosaurus (Soft Model 2020 by Favorite Co. Ltd.)

…own, and a few toy companies have also begun giving Tarbosaurus attention. Mattel and PNSO are a couple of the most notable examples to produce Tarbosaurus toys; however, the Japan-local company Favorite Co. Ltd. also produced an impressive model a few years prior as one of their museum-exclusive releases. In 2020, Favorite decided to revisit the genus with a brand-new figure as part of their latest wave of Soft Model toys. Favorite’s Soft Model T…

Brachiosaurus (Forange)

…ut are originally developed and used by companies as Cobi or MegaConstrux (Mattel) for years. The bricks themselves are of very good quality in terms of accuracy of fit. Their surface finish however varies. While some bricks are as new from the press and shine like polished, others look as if they have already been used for a while. None had serious marks though and overall the model looks totally good. The model comes with high quality printed in…
