Centrosaurus (Jennie) (Prehistoric Animal Models by PNSO)

…Centrosaurus seems kind of boring compared to the likes of Styracosaurus, Triceratops, Kosmoceratops or the myriad other ceratopsians with their impressive headgear. But the thing about Centrosaurus is that it is one of the all-time most well-known dinosaurs, with fossilized remains from thousands upon thousands of individuals of all ages. We all have our own criteria in picking our favorite prehistoric critters but for me, an extensive knowledge…

Jurassic World Dominion Minis part 1 (Jurassic World by Mattel)

…s a bit distracting. It’s small like the rest, measuring 3.2″ in wingspan and 1.9″ from head to feet. Not bad overall, just average. It is packaged alongside Triceratops. This concludes the worst half of the line. Re-join soon for the best of them!…

Gallimimus (Jurassic Park, Hammond Collection by Mattel)

…with the 1/18 humans in the line and although we can make excuses for the Triceratops there’s really no justification for the small scale of this one. The figure is articulated at the jaw, base of the skull, neck, shoulders, elbows, hips, knees, ankles, and tail. Aside from the hips all the articulation uses ball joints that allow 360-degree rotation. The neck has the greatest degree of movement of any Hammond Collection figure so far, due largel…

Tyrannosaurus rex and Velociraptors (Playmobil)

…tment of flora including a fern, shrubs, some nice flowering plants, and a Triceratops skull for good measure. It’s a perfect place for the raptors to live and hide, and for the T. rex to get a drink or lie in wait to ambush its next victim. Forget the anatomical flaws. Any young dinosaur fan (and quite a few adult ones for that matter) should love this kit. The dinosaurs are articulated, durable, and lots of fun to play with, and the playset is w…

Deinonychus (Tyco)

…mind we all know the names that would crop up; Tyrannosaurus, Stegosaurus, Triceratops, and since 1993…Velociraptor. I can’t think of many genera that achieved so much fame so fast, at least not since the so called golden age of paleontology in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s when most well known dinosaurs were discovered. Jurassic Park was responsible for launching the entire dromaeosaurid clan into stardom but Jurassic Park was not the first to…

Ichthyosaur (Playful Home)

…years that don’t end up on my shelf. She knows the names too; Stegosaurus, Triceratops, Tyrannosaurus. She knows more obscure genera as well. Enter the ichthyosaur. For Christmas she received a set of dinosaur magnets that included this not-a-dinosaur. Naturally she thought it was a dolphin. I told her, “it’s not a dolphin” so now she says “this is an ichthyosaur, not a dolphin”. I’m proud; she’s not even three years old yet.  So now she needed a…

Smilodon (Play visions large mammal set)

…are plenty of Smilodon figures out there, they rival Tyrannosaurus rex and triceratops in ubiquitous in the toy market. In fact, some of the first and earliest prehistoric animal figures were Smilodon. The illustration inside the book that was used to base the figures. Notice the other big cat on the upper right corne that looks suspiciously like the figure. Smilodon illustration on the left side facing the figure. As I mentioned, the Play visions…

Iguanodon (Soft Model 2020 series by Favorite Co. Ltd.)

…020 rendition. Iguanodon isn’t as flashy of a dinosaur as Tyrannosaurus or Triceratops, but its place in the roots of dinosaur history keep the genus as a staple in dino iconography. As a result, numerous figures have inevitably been produced by toy companies over the years. One of the latest examples comes from Japanese-based Favorite Co. Ltd., who decided to include the classic “iguana tooth” in their 2020 additions to the select soft model line…

Iguanodon (Starlux)

…ight in spite of the discovery of more popular dinosaurs like Stegosaurus, Triceratops, and T. rex. Over the years, many figures of this species have been made. Naturally, the first one came from Starlux, and today I will be looking at that very figure. On to the details! At 5.0” long and 3.7” high, it is a small to medium figure, bigger than Kaiyodo figures, but smaller than most modern lines. The colour is slightly dull: very dark green and red…

Anatotitan (Sue at The Field Museum by Safari Ltd)

…orth America, coexisting with more famous dinosaurs such as Tyrannosaurus, Triceratops, and Ankylosaurus. This figure does justice to the outshone species, and is quite accurate to boot. One thing that the dinosaur toy collecting community is often quick to note is the lack of hadrosaur figures. Since the Wild Safari Hapacrosaurus, there haven’t been many mass-produced hadrosaur figures of good quality. The Field Museum Anatotitan changes that. Th…

Deinosuchus vs. Parasaurolophus Diorama (Dinosauria by Sideshow)

…herbivore’s tail. It helps frame the scene much like the Tyrannosaurus vs. Triceratops diorama, but is somewhat unrealistic, as hadrosaurs are known for having ossified tendons that should have kept their tails very stiff for balance. The cleverest rationalization I’ve heard for this: The croc slams into its prey like a freight train, fracturing the tail and causing it to curl in an unnatural manner. Set in a flooded Cretaceous swamp, this diorama…

Kronosaurus (Unknown)

…oup would feature icons: we see Tyrannosaurus rex, Diplodocus, Allosaurus, Triceratops, Anklyosaurus, Hadrosaur (iguanodon?), Pteranodon, and of course Kronosaurus (representing the marine reptiles). But while most of its team mates would go on to great fame; starring in countless movies and appearing in toys and merchandises, in the succeeding decades, Kronosaurus would languish on the sideline just like some Justice League members. It won’t be un…

Plateosaurus (Marx)

…been reviewed but I’ll be covering the rest; Plateosaurus, Dimetrodon, and Triceratops. These toys represent the smallest toys in the Marx line, with the Cynognathus being the smallest. Plateosaurus is one of the better known Triassic dinosaurs, a sauropodomorph that doesn’t really need an introduction from me. I have written about the genus before, as have others. There are plenty of older figures and toys of it, though we’re long overdue for a m…

Pteranodon (Dinosauria by Wild Republic)

…, and the Pteranodon. The other set contains a Diplodocus, an Iguanodon, a Triceratops, and a Velociraptor. This figure dates all the way back to 2004. At first sight, we can see that it is in a flying pose. It is good, but I would like it to be in a quadrupedal pose, which is a more original idea, but I understand that this figure is quite old. It is accurate for its time though. The Pteranodon‘s wingspan measures 20 cm long. The colour scheme f…

Kentrosaurus (Electronic Deluxe by Chap Mei)

2.3 (12 votes) As Styracosaurus is to Triceratops, Kentrosaurus is to Stegosaurus. This thorny little thyreophoran would have been a risky meal for any Jurassic predator. Chap Mei’s electronic Kentrosaurus figure measures just under 28 cm long and stands 15.5 cm at the tip of its back plates. Very light grey is the main colour with medium and dark blue running down the back, black markings on the sides, green eyes, a magenta tongue, beige spikes,…

Tyrannosaurus (Sell Rite Giftware (SRG))

…ere a mixture of well know as well as obscure. Of the famous ones there is Triceratops, Stegosaurus, Pteranodon, and at that time the Hadrosaur, and of course Tyrannosaurus. Two marine reptiles join the group, a Pleasiosaur, and Mosasaur, followed by a pair of cave people(male and female), and a mammoth. Followed by a Dimetrodon, and the most surprising of the them all the giant fish Dunkleosteus (labeled as Dinichtys). A charming little model tha…

Ceratosaurus (Jurassic Park 3, Hammond Collection by Mattel)

…e fingers and toes are decorated with bird-like toe scutes. Along with the Triceratops, I think this figure has the best detail work in the line so far. The main body of this figure is a pale-yellow color, much paler than its Roarivores counterpart which to me looks a bit too yellow, like it’s stained with nicotine. Chocolate brown stripes run down along the body and are included on the arms, legs, and tail. A brown slash also runs across the eyes…

Baryonyx (Roarivores)(Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom by Mattel)

…going to do battle with her, and it also reminds me of the Jurassic Park 3 Triceratops, which also has T. rex battle noises. Anyway, on to the figure itself. The Baryonyx measures 13 inches long and 5.5 inches tall, and is cast in a sepia brown color. Running through the back is dark indigo blue striping, and the snout has a shiny electric blue line running through the top. The eyes are yellow, the teeth are eggshell-colored, and the tongue is pin…

Spinosaurus (1992) (Carnegie Collection by Safari Ltd.)

…retty obscure dinosaur back then – everyone in the schoolyard knew Rex and Triceratops, but to know Spinosaurus you had to be sufficiently into dinosaurs to seriously diminish your social standing. The transformation of Spinosaurus began with the description of the related Baryonyx in 1986, which clarified that the skulls of these theropods were long, flat and tapering, superficially resembling a crocodile’s jaws in profile, and filled with conica…

Tyrannosaurus Collection (Kaiyodo Capsule Q Museum)

…tart. Beware of high prices though, with a little hunting you can find the entire set for a reasonable price. If you’re comfortable with Japanese auction sites you can find them even cheaper still. However you get them, you won’t regret adding these gems to your collection. A Triceratops series has also been released for the Capsule Q Museum as well as a marine reptile series just this year. I promise that if I get around to reviewing them I’ll tr…
