Daeodon (Wild Safari by Safari Ltd.)

…, part of their 2018 lineup of prehistoric figures. At first, I decided to compare it with its CollectA predecessor. But then it just felt like routine review of pointing out the other’s pros and cons, which I tend to avoid and find mostly unnecessary. I love both versions. For me it offers a different take by different artist on the same animal. So, as you will find out, I decided to compare both in a different way. I chose to use the differences…

American Mastodon (Wild Safari by Safari Ltd.)

…, and outstanding detail. And as I noted back in the intro, mastodon toys are far from legion. I definitely recommend this gem to anyone who enjoys prehistoric mammal figures, or anyone looking to start collecting them. My compliments go out to artist Doug Watson for his masterful craftsmanship. And thank you to FaunaFigures.com for this and many other figures. 🙂 Voted Best Non-Dinosaur Toy of 2018 by readers of Prehistoric Times magazine!…

Malawisaurus (Wild Safari by Safari Ltd.)

…closed jaws (!) and the overall “flow” from the tip of the nose to the end of the tail. Paint jobs can be changed after all. Highly recommended. Available from Amazon.com here….

Euhelopus (Age of the Dinosaurs by PNSO)

…rearing Diplodocus from Battat. This particular figure has inspired other companies to release figures of rearing sauropods (although this is still a rarity in the industry). Companies such as Safari and CollectA have at one point released a figure of a rearing sauropod. And now, PNSO has joined this club with their rearing Euhelopus figure. With the Battat Diplodocus And what a beautiful figure it is! Standing at 18 inches tall, it easily towers…

Plesiosuchus (Wild Safari by Safari Ltd)

…rehistoric toys. Between that rarity and its superb sculpting, the Wild Safari Plesiosuchus is a wonderful and welcome addition to your collection. Strongly recommended. Thanks go out to FaunaFigures.com for this and other wonderful prehistoric toys!…

Moropus (CollectA)

…ted, has a realistic colour scheme, and, as far as I can tell at least, no anatomical inaccuracies. In a plastic world largely dominated by mammoths and cats, this is a welcome and wonderful touch of variety. Thanks go out once again to FaunaFigures.com for this and many other great toys!…

Ornithocheirus (CollectA)

…colour scheme, and displays nicely. In short, a very cool pterosaur figure, even with the inaccurate pose. Available from Amazon.com here and Amazon.co.uk here….

Dolichorhynchops (CollectA)

…e little toy. Given that most prehistoric sea monster toys are along the lines of giant elasmosaurs, mosasaurs, and pliosaurs, this is a welcome touch of variety. Available from Amazon.com here….

Daxiatitan (CollectA)

…(as best as one can tell from incomplete fossil remains), the Daxiatitan stands as proof of CollectA’s continuing evolution as a toy company. Available from Amazon.com here….

Saurophaganax (CollectA)

…remains,‭ ‬some of which bear a strong resemblance to the smaller but more common Allosaurus, it is debated if it should have its own genus.‭ ‬ It is the vertebra that makes it different from Allosaurus but it has been proposed that these differences are due to age, not species. Some research basically states that Allosaurus lived fast and died young, even before reaching skeletal maturity. If that were true, it could mean that only a few would ha…

Alamosaurus (CollectA)

…llectA’s later sauropods like this one are ideal. If you are picky when it comes to anatomy, you may not find this model is your cup of tea – but I can forgive the anatomical bloopers here mostly because it’s a small toy and CollectA have made up for it in character and quality sculpting, particularly when considering some of their early monstrosities. This model, released in 2011, was definitely a step in the right direction. Available from Amazo…

Bistahieversor (CollectA)

…absolutely massive, more so than that of any other tyrannosaur figure I’ve come across to date (yet still within the range of plausibility). Seriously, if its teeth aren’t enough to do the job, this destroyer could probably bludgeon its prey to death with that keister. I love it! This is the very first Bistahieversor toy, and I reckon it’ll be hard to top. Good colours, excellent sculpting, and a real attitude. This one’s a winner, folks! Availabl…

Hypsilophodon family (CollectA)

…to the amount of detail in such a small toy. It does not have the splash of color that the 2012 Koreaceratops had, but there is nothing wrong with that as the paint job looks natural. I would recommend it for educational use and for collectors but, I might pass if it going to be played with, as it really is a small diorama. Available from Amazon.com here….

Liliensternus (CollectA)

…ght. It is a rare Triassic dinosaur that has only been done by Bullyland so that is a reason to grab this guy. I would recommend this toy if you do not have a problem with the pose. I would also highly recommend it if you are doing a Triassic dance off diorama, complete with disco ball, laser lights, and a fog machine. If not, then I would pass on this toy. Available from Amazon.com

Phorusrhacos (X-Plus)

…ilms in general I’m first and foremost a collector of model dinosaurs and in a collection lacking any other representative of this fascinating group of predators I welcome this little guy in with open arms. Hopefully someday Safari or some other company will come out with the definitive terror bird figure but until that day comes you’re left with only a few options, with only the CollectA Kelenken being easily obtainable. You can find this model o…

Lexovisaurus (CollectA)

…from Africa, but that may be due to the small amount of known material to compare. Starting with plates, not enough has been found to know how many or what shape they all where though I would guess there would be less then there are on this model. There is even debate if it had shoulder spikes or not. The one thing I would have liked to have seen is texture on the plates. Only two stegosaur plates have been found with textured plates, one was Ste…

Nothronychus (CollectA)

…of therizinosaurs, because they are a “new” dinosaur group that have only come to be understood in the last few decades – with their unexpected strangeness they are thus symbolic of the “dinosaur renaissance” that has seen a complete transformation in our appreciation of the diversity and dynamism of dinosaurs in general. Unless I am mistaken, the CollectA Nothronychus is the only commercially available model of this interesting and important The…

Deinocheirus (Wild Safari by Safari Ltd.)

…inches tall (or 7.6 cm), by a little over 7 inches long (or 17.8 cm), when compared to their much larger feathered Tyrannosaurus rex (also new for 2017). However, this figure is one of the few accurate figures of this genus, although that is because the more complete remains of this dinosaur have only been described in 2014. Deinocheirus was quite a strange animal, especially for an ornithomimosaur. It is the largest ornithomimosaur discovered so…

Carnotaurus (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Hammond Collection by Mattel)

…eyes are gold with black pupils. Overall, the paintjob looks fantastic and complete, even if it’s not actually complete. We’ve about reached the end of the review, but I do want to briefly discuss the plastic used for this figure. The figure is overall surprisingly light weight and the plastic used for the hollow body feels thin and cheap. I was somewhat shocked by this when I first took it out of the packaging. I’ve since gotten over it but since…
