Gorgosaurus (‘Gorgon’, Walking with Dinosaurs the Movie 3D, by Vivid Toy Group Ltd)

…ayability is very high. The first point of call for comparison would be with Jurassic Park action figures by Kenner, but I’ll save that discussion for a later review. Available on Amazon.co.uk here and Ebay.com here. This figure also comes in a twin pack with Patchi, so you can potentially save a few quid if you’re seeking both figures. Front of the box. Placerias (unknown company)

…in the BBC series “Walking with Dinosaurs” is neglected by almost any toy company you can name. Third it is a “chinasaurus”. While probably at least 90% of all our toy figures come from Chinese factories, “chinasaur” describes cheap made figures often unbranded or made by unknown Chinese companies. This leads is to the fourth point: While that figure`s origin may be a mystery somewhat and it may be cheaply made, it is still outstanding for being…

Placerias (Tyco)

…ately, that’s all the Dino-Riders I have to offer. But stay tuned for some Jurassic Park! Sometimes available on Ebay.com here….

Anhanguera (World of History by Schleich)

…, then it’s something to consider when purchasing this model. Overall, this is not a bad figure aside from some anatomical hiccups that we have come to expect from Schleich. Available from Amazon.com here….

Coelophysis (DINO by Lego)

…at note, it’s time for us to say goodbye. But don’t worry, you’ll see us again very soon! Ta ta! “Laters!” Available from Amazon.com here and Amazon.co.uk here….

Utahraptor (Kenner, Jurassic Park series 2)

…l in all, this is a pretty nice toy, although it is unsatisfactory when it comes to accuracy. This toy is out of production and therefore pretty hard to find and expensive nowadays, I was lucky to get mine for $20. MIB (mint in box) samples of this toy have gone as high as $80 – it is occasionally available on Ebay with other vintage Jurassic Park figures. Join in the discussion at the Dinosaur Toy Forum! Tiktaalik (Paleozoic Pals)

…represented by other companies. Although I don’t collect plush toys I continue to support PRI and what they’re doing with this line and hope they’re around for many years to come. You can purchase your own Tiktaalik off of amazon.com but it’s considerably cheaper directly from the PRI web site. …

Liopleurodon (Wild Safari by Safari Ltd)

…Although it would be nice to see a more original colour scheme, one cannot complain too much as the striking pattern of deep blue and white works extremely well, even if it is not unique. The underside is completely white so the animal is nicely countershaded. The texture of plesiosaur skin is unknown; the surface of the Wild Safari Liopleurodon is moderately stippled giving the impression of small scales. At only 16 cm long this is a small and af…

Liopleurodon (DinoValley Series 2 by Chap Mei)

…l and appear as if they were stuck on as an afterthought. This seems to be common amongst Chap Mei figures. The figure is a substantial size at 26cm long. The jaws have a snapping action, activated by a button on the back. The figure is rather cartoony but as cartoon pliosaurs go, it is pretty accurate. So, where do you get it? I found mine in a local Tesco, and also spotted it in the UK in the ELC. So far I have failed to find it on the web. As s…

Leptoceratops (Wild Safari by Safari Ltd)

…the frill which is also outlined in reddish brown. Each black eye has a tiny white fleck to give the impression of reflection. The color scheme seems realistic for a small dinosaur that may seek refuge in the underbrush while trying to stay out of the way of its giant contemporaries. I have no complaints about this pleasant little figure. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a cheap and rather cute addition to his or her collection. If you…

Amargasaurus (Wild Safari by Safari Ltd.)

…against predators, other suggestions include visual displays, some form of communication, or simply as a way for the animals to identify members of the same species. Comparison with the CollectA version. Here you can clearly see the different interpretation of how the neural spine may have looked like. CollectA opted for the partial covering. The two figures, oddly, make a beautiful pair and are similar in size. In this figure, Safari Ltd opted to…

Amargasaurus (CollectA)

…not the best effort put forth by CollectA, and has many anatomical errors. Compared to the Carnegie or Battat version, it isn’t even close to stacking up with those figures. Of course, this little toy has a personality, and personality goes a long way. This teeny toy can find a niche with some collectors due to its small size and charm. For collectors with limited room, this mini figure fit easily into most spaces. It is a tough tiny toy, so it is…

Amargasaurus (Deluxe version by CollectA)

…earch I have seen evidence of osteoderms only in titanosaurid sauropods, a completely different family to the dicraeosaurids. These are, however, very nit-picky comments and the overall accuracy of the model is wonderful. With these questionable osteoderms, a lovely fine scaled texture and copious skin folds and creases, this is a beautiful model and possible one of the best Amargasaurus models mass-produced. At 29cm long it is certainly one of th…

Glyptodon (Invicta)

…ooks to me to be a more accurate head sculpt. But really it’s just a minor complaint, the model is so small you might be hard pressed to even notice. This is a rather small model, at only 3” in length which only makes all the detail that much more commendable. Like the rest of the Invicta line the original version of this model is one solid color, a sandy beige coloration. The colored version has a light brown shell and legs with a darker brown he…

Glyptodon (Prehistoric Mammal Series by Schleich)

…notorious for its abominable depictions of prehistoric life was actually a competent company worth collecting. Boy how the times have changed! Among the Schleich releases of the time worthy of note was their take on the mammalian answer to the ankylosaurs, the Glyptodon. Schleich at one time released quite a few decent prehistoric mammal toys, along with other obscure prehistoric animals. They don’t do that so much anymore but thankfully companies…

Guanlong (Wild Safari by Safari Ltd)

…the world of dinosaur toys, smaller species are not all that common. Most companies seem to think that members of the general public find them to be boring. But we, as a specialized community of dinosaur enthusiasts, can agree that this is far from true. Indeed, there are many species of dinosaur only 3 meters long or less that are recognizable enough to be added to the various companies’ dinosaur collections. In recent years, Safari has taken no…

Archaeopteryx (Wild Safari by Safari Ltd.)

…safety concerns. Alas. There are also some design choices that ultimately come down to preference. The feathers on this model were definitely well-researched and well executed, but they’re not as dense as I’d really like to see. They’re very tight to the body, particularly around the neck. Certainly plausible (i.e. the flamingo,) but the necks of most birds are buried in feathers. I would also have liked to see feathers on the snout and digits. T…

Archaeopteryx (Papo)

…been overdosing on steroids. In addition, we now know that the second inner toes were raised, just like those on maniraptors. After so many years of naked skinned dinosaurs, the Archaeopteryx is a welcome addition to the Papo line. It’s arguably their best sculpted figure yet. Now if only the designers could improve on scientific accuracy. Available from Amazon.com here….

Hyaenodon (Mojö Fun)

…ve used a little more interesting of a paint scheme. There are some very minor scientific accuracy issues but most people will hardly notice. Most importantly the AAA Hyaenodon now has a companion to run, hunt and play with. I would recommend this figure for play, display, and educational diorama use. Available from Amazon.com here….

Metriacanthosaurus (Roarivores)(Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom by Mattel)

…pening the jaws instead. This was a missed opportunity, but I can’t really complain too much about it. There are ways to keep them closed, but most involve breaking the figure. The shoulders and hips are ball-jointed, which is awesome. Like most Roarivores, the Metriacanthosaurus measures about 13 inches long and 5 inches tall. It scales well with 3.75-5 inch tall figures. My personal favorite Roarivore released thus so far is the Baryonyx, but th…
