Genyodectes (Jurassic World: Dominion, Extreme Damage by Mattel)

…ms runs down the mid-line of the back. cx Make no mistake, this is still a Mattel toy with the typical Mattel features that many of us loathe. Blunt teeth that extend past the maxillary, a small spindly tail, shrink-wrapped skull, and cartoonish features. But for as much as people like to roast Mattel on accuracy, this one isn’t that bad. A coating of small pebbly scales covers the entirely of the figure, save for the underside, and rows of osteod…

Tyrannosaurus (Electronic Real Feel, Jurassic Park ’93 Classic by Mattel)

…Kenner T. rex toys used completely new and distinct sculpts. This one from Mattel is just more of the same from Mattel, who have released a slew of virtually identical T. rex toys over the last five years, making it somewhat less special. Although an argument could be made that this one is better than Kenner’s, it lacks the uniqueness, charm, and personality of the original. We wouldn’t care about this T. rex if the older one never existed. Based…

Chialingosaurus (Jurassic World Dino-Escape, Fierce Force by Mattel)

Mattel sometimes chooses their dinosaurs by picking names from a hat. The Mattel Chialingosaurus is part of Mattel’s Dino-Escape, Fierce Force line and is new for 2021. It measures about 8” long and stands 3.25” tall at its highest point. Chialingosaurus is estimated to have been about 13’ so that would put this toy at about 1/19 in scale. This means it scales nicely with the human figures. Up until this point the only stegosaur we’ve gotten from…

Alioramus (Jurassic World: Wild Pack by Mattel)

…is that this theropod possesses proper, non-pronated wrists. Good on you, Mattel! Like many of Mattel’s theropods, the tail on this one is much too short, although I get how that was necessary in order to get them to fit into the packaging. Less forgivable, however, are the legs. As you can see, they are quite thick and beefy, easily as much as the ones on the bigger toys shown in the earlier image. By contrast, the real Alioramus was more gracil…

Carcharodontosaurus (Jurassic World Dino-Escape, Mega Destroyers by Mattel)

…, we now also have the Jurassic World Carcharodontosaurus from Mattel. The Mattel Carcharodontosaurus is new for 2021 and part of Mattel’s Dino-Escape, Mega Destroyers line. This line brings about the long-awaited return of capture gear, restraints that come packaged with the dinosaurs that the dinosaurs can subsequently break free of. I could personally take or leave it, but for those nostalgic for the Kenner days, or kids who want to do more wit…

Gallimimus (Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, Attack Pack by Mattel)

…here. Also, despite the oversized feet this toy isn’t stable. My original Mattel figure won’t stand on its own anymore and I imagine the same will be true for this one. Mattel has really done something special here and I hope it’s something we see more of in the future. I’ve sworn myself off of getting anymore Mattel Tyrannosaurus toys but if they were to release their own Red Rex I would be hard pressed to ignore it. How about a Kenner inspired…

Herrerasaurus (Jurassic World Dino-Trackers, Strike Attack by Mattel)

…s an immense improvement over its predecessor, one of the best toys in Mattel’s mainline, and the best Herrerasaurus ever molded in plastic. It has a few anatomical shortcomings but they’re all minor when compared to the overall presentation which deviates strongly from the typical Mattel aesthetic. I hope Mattel does more toys like this in the future but so far it appears to be a one-off novelty instead of a trend setter, although some recent ann…

Gryposuchus (Jurassic World Epic Evolution, Wild Roar by Mattel)

…fined teeth, less cartoony proportions, and vibrant paintjob, coupled with Mattel’s usual high level of detail, all come together to make this Mattel’s best pseudosuchian to date. This is the sort of toy that keeps me excited about the Jurassic World main line seven years after its launch. The Mattel Gryposuchus is currently available and retails for about $18.99. I don’t usually pay full price for these anymore, but I couldn’t pass up on this one…

Edmontosaurus (Jurassic World, Basic 12” Figures by Mattel)

…a low budget figure here. It’s no worse than what you see on the standard Mattel toys, and compared to a lot of Mattel’s recent efforts, it’s better. The Mattel Basic Edmontosaurus is a surprisingly decent quality toy despite its low price point and lack of gimmicks. In terms of detail and paint, it’s better than its mainline counterpart, and if all you’re going to do with it is stand it on a shelf it serves that function well. The Mattel Basic t…

Concavenator (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Hammond Collection by Mattel)

…ers, but recent research suggests that they aren’t quill knobs at all. The Mattel Hammond Collection Concavenator is a reasonably accurate toy as Mattel figures go. The crest starts before the hips and continues in a downward arch to the base of the tail. A second, smaller sail is presented at the base of the tail. There are many ways to interpret this bizarre feature and nothing to take issue with here except that in the film the crest is present…

Tuojiangosaurus (Jurassic World Epic Evolution, Strike Attack by Mattel)

…at their latest addition to this assortment, the Tuojiangosaurus, part of Mattel’s Epic Evolution line. The Mattel Tuojiangosaurus is a Strike Attack toy, meaning it’s one of their smaller toys. Mattel toys in this size range are notoriously difficult to find. My local Target doesn’t carry them, nor does the Target website, and my local Walmarts are mostly clogged up with toys from previous waves. Persistence recently paid off however, and I was…

Mamenchisaurus (Jurassic World, Legacy Collection by Mattel)

…It’s a must have for fans of The Lost World or collectors that want all the large sauropods but if you already have a couple of these shelf-hogs and space is limited then you can probably skip on this one. Whatever my opinion of this toy is, I still must praise Mattel for making these big sauropods, we’re spoiled as collectors. The Mattel Mamenchisaurus retails for about $65 and is a Target exclusive but since it’s now showing up on clearance it w…

Velociraptor (Jurassic Park, Hammond Collection by Mattel)

…e highly anticipated Hammond Collection I have finally caved in a bought a Mattel Velociraptor. But it stands on my shelf to represent the movie I love and its creatures, not Velociraptor itself. The Mattel Hammond Collection Velociraptor measures about 7.5” long and stands roughly 3.5” tall. In Jurassic Park the raptors stand about 6’ tall so that puts this toy in the 1/20 scale range. This means it scales well with the human figures in the line….

Sarcosuchus (Jurassic World Massive Biters, by Mattel)

…s, one by Safari and this one by Mattel for their Jurassic World line. The Mattel Sarcosuchus is part of Mattel’s new for 2020 Massive Biters line. It was released alongside the Tarbosaurus in the first wave of toys earlier this year. New Massive Biters are coming out as well with the Siats already hitting shelves. The Massive Biters are larger than toys in the Roarivores or Sound Strike lines and all share a similar action feature. The tail when…

Nigersaurus (Jurassic World Dino Trackers, Wild Roar by Mattel)

…ation from this obvious source. The rest of the figure is acceptable for a Mattel toy with a high level of fine detail and bodily embellishments that make Mattel dinosaurs appealing to those that collect them. The entire toy has a rough, bumpy texture that makes it fun to hold and study. A covering of scales decorate the entirety of the figure and I especially enjoy the exceptionally minute pebbly scales extending from the lower jaw, across the un…

Poposaurus (Jurassic World Epic Evolution, Danger Pack by Mattel)

…win the award for most Pseudosuchians ever produced. Also, like Bullyland, Mattel has produced a lot of Triassic fauna. Today we’re looking at the Mattel Poposaurus, a figure that is both a Pseudosuchian and from the Triassic. You would be forgiven if you had initially mistaken this toy for a dinosaur. Poposaurus was an obligatory biped that, like many Triassic Pseudosichians, had many dinosaur-like characteristics. It belonged to the Poposauroide…

Nasutoceratops (Jurassic World Dino-Rivals, Duel Attack by Mattel)

…ere to review toys and today we’re looking at the enigmatic and marvelous, Mattel Nasutoceratops. Produced as part of the Dino-Rivals Duel Attack line the Mattel Nasutoceratops measures about 12” from the tips of its horns to the end of its tail. At its highest point on the frill it stands roughly 5.5”. Being a Duel Attack toy this figure has two action features. One button along the back raises the head up, and another swings the tail towards the…

Brachiosaurus (Jurassic World Legacy Collection by Mattel)

…it really doesn’t affect the aesthetics of the toy much in this case. The Mattel Brachiosaurus is a monumental achievement, a love letter from Mattel to Jurassic Park fans of all ages. It blows comparable toy sauropods away in its lifelike detail and sheer scale. Even among other Jurassic World toys by Mattel it stands alone as one of the most well executed and film accurate toys to date. It seems dramatic to say this is a masterpiece, but in our…

Allosaurus (Dino Escape: Roar Attack by Mattel – 2021 ver. 1)

…s given a new & and improved design from its appearance in Fallen Kingdom; Mattel, in turn, revised their toy design and released a new Allosaurus to reflect the dinosaur’s bigger & badder image. For Mattel’s 2021 lineup of figures, another retooling of the Allosaurus was released, now with two paint variants released in separate waves through the year. This review is for the first release of this figure, from the first wave of the Dino Escape: Ro…

Hesperosaurus (Jurassic World: Wild Roar by Mattel)

…sible, but not what you’d call exciting or vibrant. But who knows, perhaps Mattel will eventually release a snazzier repaint. With Kenner’s Lost World Stegosaurus. The sculpting detail is pretty standard for a Mattel toy. The beak has a slightly coarse texture, the body is covered in an array of rounded scales and thick wrinkles, the plates feature plenty of grooves, and the spikes have faint grooves. The spikes and all but one of the twelve plate…
