Concavenator (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Hammond Collection by Mattel)
…rnegie and Wild Safari lines, CollectA, Favorite, and Papo. Several Mattel Concavenator toys exist too, in their mainline. Concavenator‘s popularity probably hinges on its unique anatomical features. Concavenator had two tall vertebrae in front of the hips and some modestly tall vertebrae at the base of the tail. This is usually restored as a sail or crest, but this could have also supported a hump. Concavenator was originally said to have preserv…
Concavenator (Jurassic World Dino Rivals, Dual Attack, by Mattel)
…harodontosaurus, and Mapusaurus (to name just a few). The thing that makes Concavenator stand out from all other theropods, is a hump on its back, and possibly the presence of quill knobs on the arms (though this is still up for debate). The Concavenator toy that Mattel has created for the Jurassic World Dino Rivals line is a part of their new Dual Attack range, which are around the same size of their Roarivores, only without the electronics. Inst…
Concavenator (Carnegie Collection by Safari Ltd.)
…als. This is another opportunity that an artist simply cannot pass up, and Concavenator’s signature feature is almost always adorned in some sort of flashy color. In many reconstructions, it bears a reddish hue, contrasted with the more neutral tones of the body. In some cases, this can actually make the bulk of the animal look comparatively boring (see the CollectA Concavenator of 2011). For the Carnegie reconstruction, this is certainly not the…
Concavenator (Jurassic Hunters by Geoworld)
…h I admit, is pretty cringeworthy to me now) which just so happens to be a Concavenator. This Concavenator is of your typical Geoworld quality, meaning its accuracy is minimal. It is clear that the model looks like a dinosaur, but it does not really have the care put into it to be worthy of purchase. The first thing that’s wrong with this figure is the total lack of muscle in most areas of the body. Basically, the model is very shrink-wrapped al…
Concavenator (Wild Safari by Safari Ltd.)
…ending that these are scars left from a muscular attachment. In the end, both ideas require further evidence. The sculptor, Doug Watson, has decidedly gone with the latter idea, leaving the arms bare of quills. Comparison with the Favorite Concavenator, which features a hump and quills on the arms. Overall, the Wild Safari Concavenator turned out to be much nicer than expected. Other than my copy’s warped feet causing it to tip over a little too e…
Concavenator (Age of the Dinosaurs by PNSO)
…nsure stability. There is considerable ongoing debate as to whether or not Concavenator possessed any integument on its body. For a general overview, I suggest reading its Wikipedia entry. In any case, PNSO clearly opted to go the way of integument by giving Carlos a shaggy coat of feathers on his body. Only his head, hands, underbelly, and lower legs are bare. Small but prominent wings are visible on his arms and there is a large tuft at the tip…
Concavenator (CollectA)
…n Morris (Takama), photos by Bokisaurus and Simon. Edited by Plesiosauria. Concavenator corcovatus (meaning hunchback hunter from Cuenca). Was a 6-meter long, and primitive carcharodontosaurian that lived 130 milion years ago during the early Cretaceous Period. It was discovered last year [2010] at the Las Hoyas Plateau, and is notable for a hump that pertruded from its back. It’s unsure what this hump was used for, some suggest that it was used t…
Metriacanthosaurus (Jurassic Park Hammond Collection by Mattel)
3.8 (53 votes) The release of genera such as Metriacanthosaurus, Concavenator, and Irritator in the Hammond Collection line was initially met with controversy. Some collectors were excited to see non-canonical dinosaurs join the prestigious Hammond Collection while others were dismayed, hoping the dinosaurs seen in the films would be given priority. For those disappointed individuals it was hard to stay angry at Mattel though, all three of those…
Monolophosaurus (Wild Safari by Safari Ltd.)
…are painted sloppily, not nearly as nice as the paint job on the Carnegie Concavenator which has a beautifully painted head. If they can paint the teeth well on that head, why can’t that happen every time? So I hope that with this model it was just the product of it being the last one painted after a long day of work. The pose is ok, and the colorization is ok, the anatomical details are very good. Other than the paint job, I really do like this…
Jurassic World Dominion Minis part 2 (Jurassic World by Mattel)
…ve this model too. The main issues are the ridges, likely a nod to related Concavenator and Acrocanthosaurus, no proof in the fossil record, but plenty of flare. Think the look is why I can’t help but love it. Feet are a touch oversized, but not as proportionally bad as others. Like the other theropods, the Giganotosaurus features a poseable jaw, allowing children to have it go in for the kill. It is big compared to the rest, a whooping 4.5″ long…
Tyrannosaurus rex (2014) (Carnegie Collection by Safari Ltd.)
…nnatural than the obvious ‘prop tails’ on the Carnegie Cryolophosaurus and Concavenator. The overall proportions of the body are excellent; the hips are massive, the chest suitably barrel-shaped, and the arms are as tiny as they should be (by no means a given in T. rex toys, in spite of the animal’s reputation). The head appears very large at first glance, but it’s by no means disproportionate for T. rex – ‘Stan’ in particular is noted for its out…
Dimetrodon (Savage Strike)(Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom by Mattel)
…ith some of the other genera included in the DR series so far, such as the Concavenator, Dracorex, and the as-of-yet-to-be-released Mononykus, it was also represented in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, inside the Lockwood Manor, in one of the dioramas. As with the other Savage Strike figures, this toy has articulation at all of its limbs, and has an action feature that involves pulling the tail to the side, whereupon its jaw will close upwards. It…
Giganotosaurus (PNSO Scientific Art Model)
…e Cretaceous. With some of its relatives: Mapusaurus,Charcharodontosaurus, Concavenator (all by CollectA), and Acrocanthosaurus (by Battat Terra) Giganotosaurus is part of the family Carcharodontosauridae, a family of truly large and majestic theropods which includes other giants, such as the closely related Mapusaurus and Carcharodontosaurus. They had worldwide distribution and were, without a doubt, the apex predators of their time. Despite thei…
Qianzhousaurus (Wild Safari by Safari Ltd.)
…smooth, giving the toy a bit of an unfinished look. Like Safari’s recent Concavenator, this figure’s paint job was noticeably different in hand from what the promo pictures promised. What we ended up with is a mushy soup of orange and green, that, while more naturalistic, isn’t too appealing to the eye. Brown stripes cover most of the back and thighs, but they don’t help much. They look very artificial and don’t blend well with the rest of the f…
Megalosaurus (2021)(CollectA)
…ned and rectangular in profile than those of allosaurs like Neovenator and Concavenator. No complete skeleton of Megalosaurus exists as of yet, but enough fossil material exists to conclude that its skull was very similar to that of Afrovenator, Torvosaurus, Wiehenvenator, and other megalosaurids. And unlike all previous CollectA theropods, this one’s dentition is completely covered by speculative mouth tissue. I like. However, there are a couple…
Neovenator (CollectA)
…33 feet—a big one! It was closely related to dinosaurs such as Allosaurus, Concavenator, and Eocarcharia. CollectA’s figure certainly conveys a big, fierce predator well enough. Just a glance at those big claws and teeth tells kids that this thing is going to be used to chow down on their smaller figures. The pose is pretty similar to the aforementioned Eustreptospondylus figure—and it shares some of the same problems. The gums are a sickly pur…
Tyrannosaurus rex (1/18 Scale Kickstarter Exclusive)(Beasts of the Mesozoic by Creative Beast Studio)
…eropods really did have them, but the confirmed presence of such scutes in Concavenator may indicate that these depictions are indeed accurate. And that wraps up our journey through the wonderful world of the anatomy of Marbhtach, whew! So after all that, can he be said to be an accurate rendition of the one and only tyrant lizard? Well, yes and no. Yes in that he absolutely does reflect the most up-to-date ideas of how T. rex looked and he absolu…
Carcharodontosaurus (GR Toys by Haolonggood)
…nterestingly, we actually do have scale impressions from a small relative, Concavenator, indicating larger scute-like scales along the tail; so Haolonggood might have missed an opportunity to depict a similar feature on Carcharodontosaurus as reasonable speculation. Although the true nature of the animal’s appearance is still unknown, this model generally does its best to capture reasonable anatomy based on inference from other carcharodontosaurs…
Ankylosaurus (Jurassic Park: Hammond Collection by Mattel)
…presents a particular species from the original trilogy. For instance, the Concavenator, its wave mate, lacks that logo on its packaging. The box measures about 10 inches/25.4 cm long, 7 inches/17.78 cm tall, and 3 inches/7.62 cm wide, making it the same size as any medium Hammond Collection box. The figure comes within a plastic tray and tied down with plastic twist ties that will need to be cut to free it. The tail is the only thing that needs t…
Meraxes (Prehistoric Animal Models by PNSO)
…cutes along the underside like those preserved in Meraxes’s early relative Concavenator. A small missed opportunity, perhaps. Mungo’s most striking feature as a Prehistoric Animal Model is its coloration. Mungo eschews the typical browns and yellows of its contemporary model theropods in favor of a remarkable striped pattern that almost appears grayscale at a glance. While the interconnected rows of stripes are genuinely a dark charcoal gray, the…
