That's a nice paintjob, it kind of looks like I always picture Ankylosaurus in my mind.

Thanks! Me too. Slow moving, bodies low to the ground, I think of them almost like a sloth, with some sort of algae that grows on them to give a greenish color. Probably more fantasy than reality, but I like the mental image  :)

Looks good! Can't wait to see the higher res photos

Thanks, all!

Yes, the size was what drew me to it... there's lots of cool Parasaurolophus models/toy (and I have a few!), but the insane size of this thing made it irresistible.

These guys also make a Pentaceratops that I'd reeeeeally like to work on at some point:

This model and dinosaur is so beautiful it almost makes my heart skip a beat. It deserves a great paint job (like what you did with the Parasaurolophus - also an awesome model)

Lone Trike

Great work, Alexa! I love what you did with the Ankylosaurus. It should be well camouflaged in the undergrowth of the forest now :) I also love the dry-brushing work you did on the osteoderms, especially on the head!

I've been in bit of a creative slump these last few months and haven't felt like working on much. But yesterday my SO motivated me to pick things back up and I was able to get this lone Cryolophosaurus (shapeways, 1/72, gorgonzola) done.

Gotta love that art block, right?

Either way, that Cryolophosaurus is BEAUTIFUL! Simple, yet striking :)

Ugggg... right.

I'm sitting on a mountain of amazing models but have zero motivation right now. Need to get back on the train before the dust REALLY sets in  :P

A million years later and I finally found the motivation to paint again.

On of the DeeZee mammoths is finally complete:

Shonisaurus

Beautiful recreation in mammoth primigenius painting is an excellent painting on highlight among other things the successful painting of the tusks that resemble those of an ivory elephant. We must bear in mind that the teeth of any mammal are not white, and that is not taken into account many prehistoric animal companies especially when making the mammoth or smilodon to give two examples. They would look like the modern whitish yellow elephants.

Salmon

I LOVE the paint job on the crylo. The painterly style really makes it look like it just stepped out of a tableau by Gurney or Unwin. Fantastic job!

paintingdinos

Thank you both for the kind words  :)

Minor update. I finally decided to work up the willpower to redo the Argentinosaurus. It was painful to have put so much work into the original paintjob (first model I ever tried to do 100% with the airbrush) only to end up hating it. Lesson learned, hopefully no more retakes.

Old version for comparison:

Getting some base colors down on Dan's Deinonychus:

And just for fun, I'm rearranging my hobby room and finally finding places for models that have either been sitting in boxes or (in the case of large Deinonychus) hidden safely away in a closet.

Free to see the light of day at last!

Mackeral

Nice collection and demonstrated painting skills :)
That SS Mosasaurus though... i would be afraid it might break when placed horizontally.

It's not ideal, but I do not own the base. I'm trying to work out another solution for it, but for the time being it has some soft packing material under it (cant really see in the pic since its white) and is wedged into position on the shelf. I don't think I have the ability to build a custom base heavy enough to hold it, so I'm pondering a sturdy metal rod and something to brace under the front fins.

Killekor

You've really made a great work improving your Argentinosaurus! Now it looks a lot better! Congrats!

Killekor
Bigger than a camarasaurus,
and with a bite more stronger that the T-Rex bite,
Ticamasaurus is certainly the king of the Jurassic period.

With Balaur feet, dromaeosaurus bite, microraptor wings, and a terrible poison, the Deinoraptor Dromaeonychus is a lethal enemy for the most ferocious hybrid too.

Ah, much better, great job on the new version, it's really beautiful and looks professionally finished!
The original with black head is nice, but the black looks a little undeveloped, although I see what you were aiming for.
As you perfect your painting skills, you will find that you may want to go back and redo some of the older works more and more ^-^
I can't wait to see what other repaint you come up with, keep it up!

Fenestra

Okay, don't hate me, but I liked the first paint scheme on Argentinosaurus.
It was different, it was bold, it was something I hadn't seen before.
But my peculiar preferences don't really matter.
In the end it comes down to what you like, because you're the one that has to look at it on a daily basis.
It is a beautiful kit, that's for sure. And the second variant looks absolutely great as well.
Hope you're happy with it now!  ;D

Halichoeres

I actually didn't think the old Argentinosaurus paint job was bad, but I have to confess the new one is a great improvement. Beautiful work.

Thank you all!

I feel like the first design was better in concept than it ended up being in execution. I wanted it to look like a black headed python. Seemed neat at the time, but ended up being a little boring (if I'd more closely matched what the snake actually looked like I think it would have been much cooler).

The new one isn't quite finished yet, there are still details to add. Its a little softer around the edges. I feel a lot better when I look at the progress on this one than I did for the original.
