Mattel - New for 2023

Probably. I know they would have many of the smaller figures available before the holiday season by November or December in previous years. Could be a case of that (so like Safari Ltd as you noted). Usually the bigger ones pop up afterwards though, after the toy resets major retailers have in January, so seeing some of these available already there is quite the surprise. Though I do plan to wait until the new stuff pops up in stores (like the Diabloceratops, and hopefully the new Herrerasaurus sculpt, and the Nothosaurus). Still have some of 2022's things to catch up on.

Well it seems like Big Bad Toy Store is still carrying the Hammond Collection. Just got an email about the new batch of figures up for pre-order.

Edit: All with a November 2022 date. How interesting. I would have thought early next year? Though knowing how slow things are there that could very well be. For now I pre-ordered the male raptor. I think I'll worry about the others when they come out in store.

*Sighs in relief*

Thank goodness they are still carrying them. International collectors still have this option.

But November? Yikes, that's too soon, even if they are usually very slow I don't want to risk. I can't afford to spend more until Christmas and I have to pay VAT for the BOTM T.rex and other non-dinosaur collectibles at some point in late November-December.

Also I would like too see a beyond the gates video on the JP3 raptor to see how it truly looks like.

PD: Forgot about the "pile of loot" option with storage up to 90 days! I'm preordering the Ankylosaurus then, I will delay the shipping (and VAT) until after the Christmas period.

avatar_MLMjp @MLMjp Yeah I still need to hunt for the Dilophosaurus and Ellie that came out last month (and Ian and the raptor). And everything else I am behind on still (Legacy, Dreadnoughtus, etc). Though with BBTS I would relax. They usually get things like three months later, give or take.

Edit: There were a lot of preorders added to Entertainment Earth, the HC JPIII set with Grant and the raptor popped up on Amazon (already sold out), new Sound Surge Indominus and Concavenator sculpts. I'll get images up once I'm on my laptop.

Woah, some actually decent repaints on Mattel's part. Also, great to finally see a raincoat Ellie variant! Can anyone tell me what the red objects are?

Really liking that Ellie set. Especially that JP raptor (still looks better than the sad looking HC one). Can't beleive I missed the Nedry raincoat set, but oh well the SDCC Nedry has a more accurate sculpt anyways.

The Skorpiovenator and Iguanodon set is an easy pass. Looks like dollar store toys with how little paint there is.

Faelrin

Not a fan of either of these 2 newest reveals. Well I suppose the Jeep and raincoat Ellie is nice, but the raptor is just a rather weak attack pack repaint that was just shoehorned in, and isn't even consistent to the one released this year (which was consistent with 2020's). Generic markings aside, they couldn't even give it green eyes. I take it this was November's Beyond the Gates reveal. Both of these were in the facts app as well btw. Nothing else new though.

Anyways we've had like 7 JP raptors from them, and I honestly feel like only the 2020, and 2022 came the closet to being correct, despite a rather simplified coloration. I honestly think aside from the HC JP raptor (which had Blue's headsculpt), the 2022 Legacy one was probably the best JP raptor we'll get from them, and unlike the 2020 ones it also had a better sculpt, with a tad more articulation (neck).

Here's all in case anyone wants to jog their memory:

No more Attack Pack Raptors, please...

MLMjp

It's Ellie Sattler...but she has a new rain coat!

This version of the jeep is cool, I'll give them that....but unless you really really want the entire fleet of jeeps that appeared in the film and/or Ellie with a raincoat, this is an easy pass. Worst JP1 raptor also.

I kinda like the colors of the Skorpiovenator and Iguanodon, but why bother...

I want them to reveal that supposed extreme damage Carnotaurus, fingers cross for a Dominion coloration for that one.

CityRaptor

"There must always be a Raptor in Legacy Packs..."
Okay, not really, but Raptors are what mostly interacts with people. Not that I care since Smyths in Germany did not have new ones since the Tyrannosaurus Rex Escape Pack, unlike Smyths UK. As for differences, I guess Mattel wants to vary it a bit.

The new Battle Pack is probably the Dinosaur equivalent of a Rap Battle.

Oh and this is also NEW:
https://www.entertainmentearth.com/product/jurassic-world-camp-cretaceous-angel-floppy-plush/mthmk61
Yep, an Angel plushie. The first piece of merch this hybrid gets. Which is kinda funny given that I've seen people claiming that her and Rebel were only created to sell merchandising.

Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

Didn't notice that the eyes were yellow instead of green, along with that annoying DNA tab :-\

I personally like the shade of brown used on this new one compared to the 2020 and 2022 versions. And it's no where near as bad as the 2019 and 2021 crouching """JP raptors""". But the toe claws are painted in a weird gloss, and can't really tell if they bothered adding colour to them at all.

Tempted to get this new Ellie raincoat set simply to replace that godawful crouching raptor sculpt in the Hammond-Ellie Legacy set.

Faelrin

Well I certainly can agree that it's better then both of those 2019 and 2021 crouching raptors (though I do think the 2021 SDCC was at least trying to resemble the coloration on the maquette, despite being heavily simplified, as far as the stripes went anyways).

Anyways I just noticed that the rest of the 2023 HC figures are up on Toyopolis now while researching and looking for pics to update the Dinotoycollector website with. So guess a lot of the fears were preemptive? Though doesn't explain why the last bit of 2022's stuff was canceled however. Links below the spoiler.

Spoiler

Let's hope these stay there for you folks in the UK, and maybe the EU as well.

While I wouldn't mind the Jeep, I already have the Nedry one, and I DO NOT need another raptor or Ellie. PASS! Should have given the HC Ellie the raincoat.

A light up permanent wound. A light up permanent wound.

What are you doing Mattel? What are you doing?

You just pulled a hasbro/cheap dinosaur toy level of crap with that feature. What are you thinking Mattel?

An actually very cool battle damage Explorer (it's called Crash 'n Attack Ford Explorer), but Mattel had to pair it with that raptor.

Thanks for the heads up avatar_MLMjp @MLMjp. I'll get the op and Dinotoycollector site updated with this.

Edit: And while the raptor is certainly reminiscent of the Hasbro one, as far as the light up wound feature goes, it isn't the first mainline figure to have such a light up feature. The 2019 Indominus rex did with its throat.
