Quote from: Duna on October 29, 2022, 10:43:46 AMThere is a very nice PNSO promo in some figures starting in 3 days (november 1st) in Aliexpress. You can get the new Deinocheirus for only 50€, acrocanthosaurus for 43€, Museum line Lambeosaurus and Torosaurus for only 60€!

I have been recommended Lana Time and what's surprising is that they have the prices the PNSO sale is going to have but on a regular basis. Like it's quite a bit more expensive to buy directly from PNSO than on Lana Time. I used to buy directly from PNSO's AliExpress, but after knowing this about Lana, I think that's where I'll be getting PNSO figures from (unless I can manage to have enough discounts on AliExpress so the order would be cheaper). Shipping is free too for smaller figures like the Styracosaurus.

Just received the Deinocheirus, Olorotitan and Zhuchengtyrannus today.

Wow, that Deinocheirus is magnificent. Not as huge as Collecta's larger version, but so much better posed.

Funny, the box and booklet for the Olorotitan is in Chinese. I guess the English versions were all sold out.

Oh, that's good to hear. I like the CollectA version but it is just a bit larger than I prefer.

So, just before last Christmas (I gave you my heart) PNSO announced the Museum Line Iguanodon & Triceratops...

I think we miiiight get a Christmas surprise in the shape of a Museum Line Diplodocus.

And this is coming from a guy that happily collected figures of fragmentary species, but I now understand the importance of a prehistoric animal having good fossil remains. Not just because it allows for a more accurate restoration, but also the fact of a species having good fossil remains, by itself, is valuable. It's not that easy to find dinosaurs with good fossil remains. Not to mention cases like Therizinosaurus overshadow the relatives its appearance is based on. Same thing that happens with Oviraptor, it's usually based on Citipati but there surely is more people interested in buying an Oviraptor figure than a Citipati figure, when the former is indirectly a representation of the latter.

This also reminds me of this meme:

Agreed, this is the reason I'm passing on Therizinosaurus for now but just purchased the Deinocheirus. Given an embarrassment of riches from PNSO and other companies lately, I am avoiding figures of fragmentary species. Is it possible Therizinosaurus looks like this? Yeah... but we know how Deinocheirus and Spinosaurus turned out. That is, WAY more interesting than the old "scaled up ornithomimid" or "Baryonyx with a sail" guesses. I love having real dinosaur diversity in my collection rather than somebody's possibly overly conservative hypothesis. That being said, I wish somebody would make a figure of a more completely known therizinosaurid.

I like the way you think.
Had a discussion about this with some, I guess awesomebro's, regarding the new Nanmu Jurassic World Giganotosaurus. Essentially a movie monster, not a real dinosaur.

My comment was that I am hoping for Nanmu to create more accurate dinosaurs, because they sure have the right quality.

My comment wasn't appreciated.  ;D
They didn't like "accurate dinosaurs" because they aren't interesting enough. And the quadrupal Spinosaurus was also "debunked".

But I remember Deinocheirus was even depicted as a giant long armed Allosaurid in an old dinosaur book (scroll down a bit, at least they got the hump sort of correct): https://chasmosaurs.com/2021/06/21/vintage-dinosaur-art-das-grosse-buch-der-saurier/

Then we got James Gurney's version from Dinotopia, with arguably the best and most poetic description of any dinosaur:

"To understand the singular nature of Deinocheirus, imagine an ostrich growing three times it's ordinary height, climbing into the skin of an elephant, diving into a river of bright-hued paint, and then prancing about with the arrogance of a camel."

I've basically been in love with this species ever since. Little did we know then about the actual "Giant hump back murder-goose of death" it turned out to be.

Imagine a group of these giants, with the same attitude as geese, but with the mass of an elephant. Few large predators would probably take the risk of attacking an adult.

As for fragmentary species, I'm not against figures of these, as long as they are based in science.
True.therizinosaurus might have been as weird (or even weirder) among Therizinosaurids as Deinocheirus is to Ornithomimosaurs, but the PNSO figure looks the part as of our current understanding.
Although I have no doubt we will find more fossils in the future, possibly completely changing our perspective.

But look at it this way, we're already a long way from the long clawed turtle it was once thought to be. ;)

This was my favorite depiction of Deinocheirus in the 80s... and it's still completely accurate!  :)) Well, other than being located in North America...

I can only imagine how someone wouldn't find accurate dinosaurs interesting enough.  Seems like to them interesting = bloodthirsty.  Some people just have bad taste, and same for the companies they adore, like Nanmu and its rip-off monsters&co..

I always stress that it's important to remember - this hobby attracts two kinds of people with very little overlap. Science fans and movie monster fans. Some companies cater more to one than the other. Nanmu makes very good replicas of movie creature designs. Eofauna and PNSO make very good paleoart. These are totally different genres.

I got into this hobby because of the movie monsters but over the years have come to prefer the scientific side of collecting and now believe that folks in the former camp are severely limiting themselves in regards to what all they have to collect and what all there is to know about these fascinating animals. That being said, there will always be space of my shelves for the beasts that first sparked my interest.

avatar_Carnoking @Carnoking I am pretty much in the same boat as you. While I certainly grew up on JP, and still adore the work from Stan Winston Studios on those films, I also have a love of the natural world, and so I like both. That said I definitely got into collecting back when JW came out (and yes with those awful Hasbro toys), but BotM was thankfully right around the corner, and it led me here, which in turn led me to Safari Ltd, etc.

Thanks, D @dragon53 , for passing along this review. I'm glad that I didn't go for the GR/ Haolonggood figure and ordered this one instead, with it's greater accuracy and affordability.

Torn on if I should buy this figure or not. I don't have the space and I prefer the Papo one but it's so nice looking.

You could sell Papo's & use the money to buy PNSO's ;)

Isn't the Papo version's pose a bit...unrealistic?
