avatar_terrorchicken @terrorchicken they were up for preorder for several months and I think they're sending the first ones out to the people who preordered earliest. I got an email telling me they had been shipped and they arrived about two days later.

^Thanks, I figured that was it but just wanted to be sure, lol!

"Ever since some of the original Beasts of the Mesozoic raptor figures sold out, I've been getting many questions about whether or not they'll be brought back, and the answer is yes... and no. Yes, the same species will make a return, but they will feature brand new color schemes and improved articulation.

Here now is the first look at the color inspirations for the next set of 1/6th scale raptor figures! I'm looking to have these out sometime this summer with the preorders beginning at the beginning of February. And stay tuned for the new color designs and painted prototypes, coming soon!"

It's incredible how many projects David is able to run concurrently together. I can't imagine the amount of energy (and logistics) it takes to do all of this. No wonder he went full time with this. Good for him in any case. I imagine it also helps it's something he's very passionate about too.

I certainly see why he brought in other artists/sculptors to help out. It's amazing how quickly these projects turn in to full time jobs.

In video reviews of the BotM Microraptor I've seen more than one person comment on how the legs can't be posed straight out for a gliding pose...  The range of movement on the BotM figure is accurate!  Microraptor couldn't spread its legs straight out, it could only spread them slightly.  The legs spread out is one of the features of an early, poor reconstruction of Microraptor that made a number of mistakes.

Faelrin

I don't know about other peoples, but while it can't get exactly into that outdated posture, mine still had quite a bit of maneuverability on the legs to get it in a similar pose.

Image from my blog review. And boy do I miss this little dude, that's in storage right now. Still my favorite Microraptor figure on the market, with PNSO's iterations second.

It might not have been clear in my previous post, Microraptor's legs could be tilted outwards a bit, up to the maximum for the BotM Microraptor.  Its legs couldn't achieve what one can see on the Safari toob Microraptor.

Quote from: Creative Beast StudioToday we have a look at the new color design for the upcoming Adasaurus figure (colors based on the bateleur eagle), as well as an in-progress look at the next one- Acheroraptor!

Eatmycar

It's hard for me to get excited for more 1/6 raptors, but I appreciate him making sure both Achaeroraptor share the colors of Boobies.

Sim

He's making more 1:18 dromaeosaurids!

  (From CB on Twitter)

I don't recognise the black one and I'm interested by it.  The blue Velociraptor looks more natural than the Kickstarter exclusive version which had those random white feathers.  Blue is my favourite colour and I would like to get this Velociraptor if it didn't have that dark area at the front of the snout which doesn't look very natural to me since dromaeosaurids didn't have beaks.

avatar_Sim @Sim The black one is also V. mongoliensis.

Still a shame about Dromaeosaurus's proportions. Fingers crossed we'll see more body and leg types for these tiny raptors as the rest of the 1/6 line gets converted. Mainly waiting for a 1/18 Zhenyuanlong.

Sim

Thanks avatar_Flaffy @Flaffy! :)  I might get the black Velociraptor, I'll need to see more of it as at the moment it looks very dark.  As for the blue Velociraptor, I think in any case it will be very nice for those that missed the Kickstarter exclusive version.  I think it would look better though if the dark area was expanded and covered the whole of the snout or at least more of it like in the package artwork seen here (click package above the photo of the figure): https://botm.fandom.com/wiki/Velociraptor_osmolskae_(Blue)

The 1:18 Dromaeosaurus actually has deeper torso and pelvis parts to the 1:18 Linheraptor and Velociraptor.  If you're thinking of getting the 1:18 Dromaeosaurus, I recommend it, its legs look fine in person.  I would like longer legs and secondaries on a 1:18 Zhenyuanlong.

Eatmycar

Gonna grab a few of the Dromaeosaurs for sure. I would like a pair of Linheraptors (which are out...), but I really, really want Achaeroraptor above all else for Hell Creek's sake.

Though the black Velociraptor looks very much so like Saurian's depiction of that menace.

Flaffy

E @Eatmycar continuing discussion here as it's not Mattel related.

Quote from: Eatmycar on February 28, 2023, 10:20:31 PMI recall the adult Triceratops not crossing the Kickstarter finish line when the KS initially finished. I sincerely, sincerely doubt that Ornithopods and most herbivores have the appeal needed to get a full Kickstarter with as much diversity as they deserve.

Yet the entire line managed to get funded regardless, and then some post-campaign (well over $500K iirc), so not sure what your point is. And even IF a full hadrosaur series never takes off, a Parasaurolophus is basically a no brainer for David. It's one of the most recognisable dinosaurs period. Even if the layman struggles to name the genus, they'll certainly recognise that "duck-bill" and signature pompadour crest.

The more likely reason is the placement of the centre-star of the series (1/18 adult Triceratops) right at the very END of the stretch goals that hurt the initial campaign. A mistake that the original raptor series and subsequent Tyrannosaur series thankfully did not make nor repeat.

From CBS's Twitter, the new 1:18 dromaeosaurids:

The only one I might get is the blue Velociraptor.  It currently looks a bit strange to me with that brown area behind the eye and that black at the tip of the snout that makes it look like a beak.  But I'll wait until I see the final version and then decide whether I'll get it or not.  The black Velociraptor looks too dark and bulky for me.

Same here. That blue V. osmolskae is quite tempting indeed. I'm glad David did away with the random white feathers present on the 1/6th version. I just wish these tiny things weren't so spenny. The Protoceratops is almost double the raptors size but still in the same price range.

I've said this before, but I would've gladly sacrificed an articulation point or two for cleaner presentation, improved sturdiness and lower cost. The ab crunch and mid-neck articulation strike me as unecessary on such a small figure.

Faelrin

avatar_Flaffy @Flaffy Yeah that definitely did hold the campaign back from its initial potential. Lots of folks held off from backing it altogether because it (and some others like the Pachyrhinosaurus) wasn't there from the start, and were later stretch goals. Or they backed less then they would have. Thankfully David was able to get the rest funded through backerkit pre-orders though.

I'm also glad to see the blue Kickstarter Velociraptor make a come back in this scale. Well I still have my 1/6 one from way back, but I know many people wanted it, but missed out on the kickstarter, so this is a good second chance in a way. Glad to see the FC Dromaeosaurus in this scale as well. Too bad I'm like still way behind on the initial batch though.
