avatar_DragonRider02 @DragonRider02 avatar_suspsy @suspsy Getting the joints and feet warmer did the trick, so thanks for the tips there. Glad it wasn't just me. Apparantly I missed that bit on the instruction sheet earlier to also use heat on the stiff joints. Didn't have a hair dryer on hand (must have been packed into storage earlier in the year), so had to use some scalding water I microwaved in a cup and dumped into the bathroom sink with the plug in. Then I just dumped the legs and feet into water for a bit, and I was able to get things moving. Still had to ultimately take a steak knife (since the x-acto knife wasn't on hand), to cut away from some of the excess paint on some of those knee joints though.

I also opened up my Guanlong today, and man was it hard to get the rod inside the base. Not sure if it is from the paint in the base, or the hole just wasn't wide enough. I ultimately had to get the base heated up, and using a pair of pliers near the base of the rod, and some brute force to shove it in there. I also had to heat up the tail to get it on the peg too. Definitely not like the raptor series ones that were a lot easier to deal with (the downside is some were pretty loose, or got so after a while). My Gaunlong also has a few issues. Well one isn't really a problem, but looks weird. Some plastic melted in a weird way inside the elbow, but it doesn't seem to effect the articulation at all. The jaw doesn't close fully flush either. Not a huge deal to me since I like it with its mouth open anyways (I think it looks cuter that way), but figured it was worth mentioning anyways. Paint is slightly sloppy on the left side of the face too, but it is really only noticable looking at it up close.

Despite not reviewing this one, I still wanted to take a few pics of it. Really glad to have this one. I've been wanting an accurate figure of Guanlong for so long now, and it is at a great size too, and the articulation is a bonus for me. The head and neck is also much more mobile then on the WWD T. rex. Come to think of it, it's kind of like one of the many Mattel figures I have, but on a slightly smaller scale.

Didn't get the time to open up and mess around with my Yutyrannus, or the FC Medusaceratops, so hopefully I can do so tomorrow.

My Guanlong's mouth doesn't close flush either, although I think it's closer than yours. I'm pretty sure I've seen photos of other collectors' figures with the same general issue, so maybe something went a little bit awry in the manufacturing process.

right.  but the ankle joint is pretty loose and makes it flop to the side. i think a slightly deeper metal peg would be better, kind of like Mcfarlane Toys used on their dragons?

clear nail polish may help with that too.  It's often very effective for loose joints, parts that fit loosely etc.

Suskityrannus

"Today we have a look at another new paint sample from wave 2 of the Beasts of the Mesozoic Tyrannosaur Series- this time it's Suskityrannus! Keep in mind that this is an unaltered first pass by the factory, but it's already looking quite good and is lot of fun to pose. (stolen egg not included)"

I had the Suskityrannus on my list of preorders at one point, but ultimately decided to omit it.

IDK, it just doesn't feel like most other reconstructions of the tyrannosaur. Maybe it's the oversized arms/hands? Or overly stocky legs. It's not a bad figure by any means, but with how spenny these BotM figures are I have to be very selective on what I purchase.

My experience with the Yutyrannus's poor QC leaves a poor taste in my mouth for further Tyrannosaur series purchases as well.

Fembrogon

I think it looks great; it looks very close to other reconstructions to me. I've been having fun playing with my Guanlong, despite a few hindrances, so I'm sure the same will be true for Suski. Having a display partner for the Zuniceratops will be most welcome, too!

avatar_EmperorDinobot @EmperorDinobot Yep. Same scale as most others in the line now, and the intended scale for Zuniceratops.

I am quite excited for all these smaller Tyrannosaurids, since the larger 1/18th counterparts can't fit in my assortment.

Sorry to differentiate from the current reveal, but I have a concern with my current 1/35th scale Tyrannosaurus. I just received it today and it feels and looks great; however, the mouth can not close in a flush like state. I like my therapods to keep a sort of calm pose as they weren't always roaring or "angry"

Overnight and so forth, I will be trying to wrap a small rubber band around the mouth closed to see if it will hold it. I have been playing around with this model all day and plan to buy a second; however, I am wondering if the rest of the community is facing these issues? Only real problem I have seen commenting is the Guanlong's mouth.

 Thank you.

avatar_Bread @Bread I've had no issues with mine. as far as I can tell anyways. Like mine opens fine, and "snaps" when it closes. I would definitely contact David about this.

Edit: Some pics from my upcoming review for the blog to show what mine is like:

I mean it is much much better then how it is on my Guanlong for example.

Thank you! I appreciate it!

Just to be clear, you think I have a defect in my model? It has more so a sticky feel to the jaw hinge more so than what you say. No click present when opening or trying to close.

I've tried heating the model, rest of the body feels fine, but the jaw is really the only issue.

What is the best way to contact David? Email or instagram? Thank you.

avatar_Bread @Bread Did you back the kickstarter at all? I would shoot him a private message if you did. If not maybe through social media or through here:

I would recommend getting images too.

Ordered through BBTS, but I want to be sure it is a defect so I did contact David through creativebeast email attached. But I did contact BBTS as I am probably looking to return, if this really is a defect.

Hastey and yet non-regrettable decision I made last night was to order a second one, but from Creative Beast site instead. I planned to have 2, like I previously mentioned, and hopefully this one won't have issues either.

Update: Sorry for the additional post!

I contacted both David and BBTS. Both were excellent in response and quick. However, I have to give credit where credit is due. David's assurance for support and problem solving was very welcoming. Both requested videos of the issue, so I'll be making one later today after my shift at work.

I'll also post here to show and hopefully point out if there is an issue with others too.

Thank you avatar_Faelrin @Faelrin for your support and feedback. Much appreciated!

Faelrin

avatar_Bread @Bread Glad to hear you got a swift response in both instances. David's stellar customer service is one of the big reasons I continue to support his work, you know other then the cool dinosaur action figures.

So... Yes, this is the possible "defective" figure. 1/35th Scale Tyrannosaurus.

Here is the jaw closed on my model.

Yeah, no joke, it won't stay closed. I try to close it, follows up with resistance, as a result it slowly opens by itself.

Regardless of this defect! This is undoubtedly the best Tyrannosaurus model out there!

"Anybody here that?...... It's a uh-um impact tremor is what it is... I'm fairly alarmed here."

Edit: Few things I forgot to mention.

- Jada Toys 1:32 scale JP Jeep scales well with this model.
- Still in discussion with David on the next step with this defect. If anything I wouldn't mind keeping it if he would just end up discarding it. Note: I have tried heating it multiple on multiple tries. The rest of the model is perfect.

-I have a second one on the way currently. Can't wait to have a pair of these! Makes me even more excited for the smaller Tyrannosaurs!

Stegotyranno420

I was so close to getting it...SO CLOSE, but I guess it's not written in my fate.

So I opened up both my Yutyrannus and Medusaceratops today. Both had warped jaws in some form, but easy to fix (for the most part). I'll need to give them another heat treatment later after playing with their jaws since I was getting pics for my reviews of them, and it sort of undid the heat treatments I gave them (more so on the Medusaceratops). For the Yutyrannus the warped jaw was on the outside, a bit easier to address. The Medusaceratops had the bit of inner cheek plastic that was bent inwards that didn't allow the jaw to close flush. A bit of heat treatment on both got them to have jaws that closed flush. For the Yutyrannus I positioned the plastic into place with my hands while the plastic was still warm, and then using the rubber band that came with the Rebor Tyrannosaurus (which snapped after the cold water was applied), I closed its jaws as tight as I could, and ran its jaws under cold water, dried it off, and let it stay in place like that for at least ten minutes. I did something similar with the Medusaceratops where after I got the jaws heated up, I placed a metal straw into the mouth while the jaw was open as wide as possible, ran cold water over it, and then let it sit like that for quite a while. Like before I boiled some water inside a microwave (or at least got it scalding hot), and dipped the stuff inside. Had to do this to attach the tails too so did both of those in one go while at it. Pics below the spoiler.

Spoiler
Here's some before and after pics of my Yutyrannus warped jaw (which couldn't close for the most part), and fixed jaw:

Not quite ideal, but still much better then how it was before (left side is much better then the right anyways). Might have worked out better if I let it sit for much longer/all day. But I wanted to get pics while the weather was better, since the past few days have been cloudy and rainy.

Didn't think to get a before pic for the Medusaceratops before I gave it the heat treatment, though it is basically doing the same thing now again, as mentioned before.

Going back to how it was before (this is now as far as the jaw can be closed):

[close]
My luck must be terrible, because I have a long history of BotM figures having warped jaws (see the pics in the spoiler below). This is why I knew to use the heat treatment method to fix the Yutyrannus and Medusaceratops (though in the past I used a hair dryer). I'm no stranger to needing to do this unfortunately. Granted I don't know how the rest of my ceratopsians will fare. My Kickstarter exclusive Monoclonius has no problems, and neither does my Kickstarter exclusive T. rex thankfully.

Spoiler
Mononykus (can't recall if I took any pics after I fixed it, but didn't see any. In storage now, so can't really get a look at it anyhow).

Best pic I have that gives a look at the fixed jaw:

Dromaeosaurus (which jaws couldn't close, so I had to take the jaw apart to fix it):

Which closes much better now:

My white nestlings that I bought at Toycon back in 2019 I think, also had issues with the jaws. I got those fixed I think either with some brute force, or the hairdryer method. Can't remember.

A look at these cuties after being fixed up:

[close]
Despite these setbacks, I still absolutely adore both of these figures, and even the previous ones. They are super fun to play with, and still make great display pieces.

I am glad they somewhat worked out their issues once the constant heat and cold treatments did their magic, avatar_Faelrin @Faelrin

I am definitely tempted to get the Yutyrannus, being one of my favorite dinosaurs. Especially to go with the Psittacosaurus 1/18 that David just put out. Hopefully I don't have issues that similar members have posted, plus with my luck it is bound to happen given that my Tyrannosaurus has issues.

Speaking of which, today I am sending my Tyrannosaurus over to David so he can hopefully work out the issue with the jaw. The figure overall is great, works super smoothly, so hopefully if he can replace the head or work out the jaw, the figure can make its way back to me.

Faelrin

Yeah I still need to pick up that Psittacosaurus. Really hope the Dilong and Zhenyuanlong get the 1/18 scale treatment someday too. Just mentioned that as I was working on my Yutyrannus review (nearly done it now, just need to get measurements and want to grab a few more images).

In case anyone has missed it, my Kickstarter exclusive 1/35 T. rex review was just posted yesterday:

https://dinotoyblog.com/tyrannosaurus-rex-1-35-scale-kickstarter-exclusivebeasts-of-the-mesozoic-by-creative-beast-studio/

Also a little update on the Medusaceratops. Gave it another heat treatment, and jaw closes flush once again. This time I'm gonna leave the jaw sit like this all day and overnight and see how it fairs tomorrow. Still need to attempt this for the Guanlong at some point.
