You might like the animated series more, I sure did.

Zilla is referenced in GMK.

I agree on the Animated Series, which was way, way better than the movie and redeems the monster, IMO.

Just preordered the RC Godzilla from Entertainment Earth. It already sold out on BBTS.

Generally these aren't the best figures in paint and detail though for the price they make good place holders in a collection.

I can't say I'm liking the sucked-gut look of Godzilla, but the "thagomizer" is pretty funny and weirdly apt.

I'm also amused to see Doug getting an official toy and name representation. That's almost better than any of the big KotM titans.

Doug is definitely just pure fan service now  ;D

GODZILLA X KONG: THE NEW EMPIRE--- director Adam Wingard commented on THE NEW EMPIRE, "One of the incredible things about Godzilla is that the character has existed in so many different tones and interpretations in the Toho films. I'm a huge fan of the whole spectrum, and I've always really enjoyed the late-Shōwa era. There are so many big ideas and they have such epic fun with these larger-than-life characters. In GODZILLA VS. KONG, we paid homage to that epic tradition, including a handful of Easter eggs for the hardcore fans, and while I don't want to give anything away, we definitely work in a few things for the Toho fans in the new film as well, so keep your eyes open!"
A new photo shows Wingard with Dan Stevens who said his character, Trapper, is "a specialist in these creatures... If you've got a sick titan, Trapper is your guy".
A second photo shows Rebecca Hall as Dr. Ilene Andrews and Brian Tyree Henry as Bernie Hayes.

GODZILLA X KONG: THE NEW EMPIRE---Legendary Effects creature designer Jared Krichevsky was asked if Toho approved Godzilla's pink spine in THE NEW EMPIRE, and he replied, "Yep".

To be fair and I will say I don't know if it's changed or not, but Toho isn't much of a Godzilla "gatekeeper". Much of the fandom believes enough money Toho will grant  the rights to anyone and approve anything. They did approve the 98' design as well.

All that said, I don't mind the pink/red spines. Recently heard in an interview with the director that this is "his" version of Godzilla finally and he told the artists on the film he wanted an 80's toy aisle vibe.  This tracks as all the 80s-90s looks are seeing a resurgence everywhere..blame Stranger Things I guess lol

I wonder if they will approve fanbooks.

As for those pink spines, those where never my problem.  Its more his....loss of weight so to speak?

Also if Kong is supposed to represent Man, and Man created Godzilla out of the unhollyness of war, should they not be ARCH ENEMEYS STILL?

JPuggy

This is probably my most hyped film of the year, I'm genuinely excited to see Skar King and what he can do.

If you have the money, they have the time I'm sure.

Yeah the shrunken gut is quite odd. Maybe it's a result of his transformation and the calories expended to do so? Could say he's sort of like a moth and gained all that weight to transform? A left over of his bonding with Mothra? This is all pure speculation on my part I'm running with though.

I think your drawing parallels where there aren't any. I don't consider Kong an allegory for man. As for their friend status it's explained in GvK they seemed to acknowledge each other as if not total equals something close.  The same magazine interview mentioned their relationship. Basically far from being friends one is allowed to rule the Hollow Earth the other the surface and they should never cross boundaries. It looks like maybe Kong actually is the cause of this fight challenging The Skar King.

CityRaptor

80s toy aisle vibe...Hmmm. Thinking about it. Skar King kinda looks like Beast Man from MOTU.

And of course that whole 80s's revival was a thing before Stranger Things.

Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

The color pallete sort of works I recall Dino Riders being blue and red/pink lasers. Not sure about GI JOE unless he just meant in general kinda 80's way.

I think Stranger Things sorta kicked it into to high gear though? I can't recall much of a mainstream trend until then.

We do have a new trailer/clip of Godzilla in his GvK form wrecking Rome.

Quote from: HD-man on April 20, 2023, 09:54:38 AMHow we supposed to read that title? Literally "Godzilla x Kong"? "Godzilla times Kong"? "Godzilla multiplied by Kong"? "Godzilla kisses Kong"? Seems weird no matter the answer :-\

Quote from: HD-man on December 16, 2023, 10:06:15 PM;) I guess it's Kong doing the kissing:

New video! ;) Probably "a cut scene from the GodzillaxKong movie-":

GODZILLA X KONG: THE NEW EMPIRE---new image released from the sequel. Director Adam Wingard said, "There's a bit of a truce — Godzilla's in control of the surface world and Kong is down in Hollow Earth. It wasn't, 'Okay, give me a call when something goes wrong, Kong. And I, Godzilla, will rush to the rescue!'" It looks like the two creatures will be facing a common enemy as the upcoming film will feature the appearance of a more villainous primate named Skar King, who threatens the very fate of the planet. And the addition of the new villain is shaping up to bring an interesting dynamic between Godzilla and Kong. The buddy-cop dysfunctional relationship dynamic is probably the best one to describe Godzilla and Kong. My influences are always embedded with the '80s, and the '80s were prime for [that] storyline."

Im sorry.  But i just cant take "another Kong knockoff" seriusly enough to be a bigger threat then king ghdorah ever was

I don't even focus on Kaijus anymore, but I agree 100%

Blade-of-the-Moon

I hate to say it but Skar and Kong toys aren't moving nearly as much as Godzilla ( kids love giant dinosaurs lol ).

I don't really see the threat either no matter how intelligent he is. I keep imagining Chaos from Primal Rage.

He better do some absolutely cunning and vicious things to all other living beings in this film and seem truly unstoppable.  Like take another kong and eat him or something.

Carnoking

I try to avoid speculation and spoilers but I'm wondering if his level
of threat has more to do with his control over the other new titan that's been hinted at.
