Quote from: Joel1905 on January 05, 2025, 03:22:16 PMI respectfully disagree. I much prefer the old monthly releases as a collector and hobbyist.

Four or five figures in a whole year doesn't scratch that itch, especially when so many of my favourite dinosaurs don't have figure representation or need updates.

I've always been an ardent opponent of "less is more" in this context 😂

I would also like to see at least 8 to 10 figures from PNSO per year. I was hoping that they would have a final end of the year release that would have brought the total for 2024 to 8, which would then have been 1 every 1.5 months on average.

The current gap in PNSO releases will almost certainly be taken advantage of by Haolonggood and my main concern is that Haolonggood in the absence of strong competition (not in terms of quality but in terms of quantity) will either become lazy and lower their quality standards or considerably increase their prices.

If we look at the total number of figures released by PNSO and Haolonggood, 2023 was the strongest year so far, with 15 PNSO and 20 Haolonggood figures. The year 2024 saw already less in total with 7 PNSO and 19 Haolonggood figures.

Kinda hate to even say it, but that onslaught by these two stellar companies has swept away Safari's longtime dominance , first as Carnegie Safari, then Safari straight up. I don't know when (or if) we'll see that trend slowed/reversed.

it will be interesting to see how 2025 shakes out for the PNSO and HLG juggernauts. We've needed deep pockets.

I think it will largely depend on whether Haolonggood will follow up with more large 1:35 scale sauropods after the Brachiosaurus.

Now, a new research looks like a job for PNSO. Meet Tameryraptor markgrafi, a rhino-like carcharodontosaurid we once knew as the holotype of Carcharodontosaurus.

Turkeysaurus

Since HLG's Concavenator is decent but not great, i hope PNSO makes their version.

Based on that skeletal that horn seems like quite the extrapolation. I will have to look into the paper though.

GnastyGnorc

So it looks like all the materials used to describe the new species are just old photographs and papers left over from before the original specimens were destroyed? Am I understanding that correctly?

If that's the case this seems really dubious to me. Not just because of the fragmentary nature of the new holotype. But without having the physical bones it makes it difficult to accurately compare new finds against it. It just seems problematic to name a new holotype using bones we don't have anymore.

But if I am misunderstanding please someone correct me.

I am all for pnso working directly with scientists and releasing figure in conjunction with papers but I prefer they spend their time on papers with a little more substance to it.

Oof, please don't encourage PNSO to make yet another carcharodontosaurid.

I don't mind this one given its uniqueness. That's why I liked the Meraxes so much (still need to get that one...) I also wouldn't mind a Concavenator.

Sim

I'd like Neovenator and Ceratosuchops from PNSO.  CollectA's versions are nice, but I'm sure versions by PNSO would be spectacular!

I'd honestly rather they repainted their Baryonyx. It's a crime how dull and uninspired that colour scheme turned out.

Torvosaurus

Quote from: Halichoeres on January 17, 2025, 03:44:46 PMOof, please don't encourage PNSO to make yet another carcharodontosaurid.

I would be very, very careful saying this is a new species of carcharodontosaur with a horn on the snout, as well. Look at how long we thought Ornitholestes had a nasal horn, erroneously, because of the way bones were interpreted. I agree here with Halichoeres; this requires far better research than we have.

Turkeysaurus

I don't mind PNSO doing more carcharodontosaurids since Haolonggood not that good with theropods still, unfortunately.

Concavenator

Concavenator aside, there is no relevant carcharodontosaurid left for PNSO to make. And the fact that they made a Tyrannotitan is a bad joke.

I think HLG's theropods are great, and I'd like to see HLG making more. For the moment, I'm passing on PNSO's Yutyrannus, Acrocanthosaurus, Meraxes and Gorgosaurus, hoping someone else would make nice lipped versions, and that someone could be Haolonggood.

I am said by the no lips but I picked up the gorgosaurus anyways since I just think the rest of the figure is so good and I love the paintjob. It's going to be one I eventually have lips put on. There is a few more that I might get for the same treatment but mostly I am holding off for lipped theropods from whatever company starts giving us them.

Yes, Ornitholestes was the first thing I thought of, too! The nose horn could easily be an artifact, but we'll probably never know because the specimen has been destroyed.

Lana told me that they expect new products from PNSO in March. The Chinese New Year Holidays are approaching fast and factories close on 20 January. Work is supposed to resume around the 20 February and first new products will therefore appear probably in mid to late March.

sigh... I suppose ill be looking forward to some hlg figures in the mean time. Do we think some of pnso's older figures that are "currently unavailable" on their amazon stores will be restocked around march as well?

Yeah you'll probably be lucky.

Personally, I'm not into these modified figures commissions. Like had I gotten PNSO's Megalosaurus upon release and commissioned lips added to it (and AFAIK this treatment is not cheap), I would've been so annoyed, because Safari ended up making their own lipped Megalosaurus. So the lips commission would've been in vain. Not only that, but I prefer the colors on Safari's take too.

So with dinosaurs (and especially theropods), if you don't like a certain version of a given dinosaur (from a relatively popular group, good luck waiting for, IDK, basal ornithischians), it'd be smarter to just sit and wait, IMO.
