Some people might question the value of the year end poll that evaluates the figures of the past year. One thing (among several) that I like is the highlighting of figures that I had overlooked or underestimated during the year. One of these is the PNSO Camarasaurus. I had convinced myself (apparently) that I didn't need it - it's quite expensive and I already had the Safari model by Doug Watson. But it came up for sale a couple of weeks ago on Aliexpress, plus it was highly rated on this year's poll, so, why not - I ordered one. Here is the result:

It's impressive -

A comparison with the  Safari and the older Carnegie  Safari -

It's a big bruiser -

Terrific head sculpt with novel, but plausible treatment of the external nares -

Comparison with the Safari -

And old Carnegie Safari -

Tremendous improvement in detail and scalation - the PNSO -

Over against the Safari -

And Carnegie Safari -

Overall, a stunning outcome, well worth the acquiring, though, even at a discount it's quite a bit pricier than the Safari (still a fine piece). However, one gets what one pays for, certainly in this case. I'll be holding onto the two older ones, the Safari is a great value and the Carnegie, though outdated, maintains historical  and sentimental worth.

avatar_Fembrogon @Fembrogon Yeah I would definitely prioritize getting it while you still can for a reasonable price. I'm so so glad to have this one now. Still want to pick up the Cyberzoic one as well, but still.

Next month I plan to pick up the Deinonychus, and hopefully the Gorgosaurus.

S @SidB Thanks for sharing all three. One of these days I hope to get around to picking it and the Safari one up.

There's little doubt about it, avatar_Faelrin @Faelrin , it becomes an expensive hobby, over time, in terms of both costs and space, the latter as much as the former.

Just picked up the HLG Amargasaurus because I wanted a little more diversity in my sauropods. (Can't all be giant titanosaurs) ;D . I was really impressed by the quality paintwork, some of HLG's best alongside their Triceratops.

Quote from: Faelrin on April 02, 2025, 09:43:19 PMGuess who came? As I mentioned before in one of the relevant threads, I read that this one was not going to be restocked, and is nearly sold out everywhere now. Luckily Everything Dinosaur had it. And here it is:

By some serendipitous miracle, an entire pallet worth of extra BOTM Dilophosaurus were found at the warehouse and the figure is back in stock again. If you missed it before and just barely missed out on the Everything Dinosaur listing, now is your chance!

Looks like I'm back to my regularly scheduled nonsense for the month of March but between a birthday celebration and Target Circle deals too good to ignore, I can't say I'm too surprised by the amount of pickups. Plus there was the arrival of my pre-ordered HLG brach, a museum visit or two, and the usual random eBay finds  :*D

Spoiler

I remember seeing a lot of the PNSO Basilosaurus around several years back, and I always felt a nostalgic pull to pick one up thanks to WWB (which I surprisingly enjoyed watching more than WWD growing up) but never got around to it and soon enough they dropped off the map. I've noticed them cropping up again recently but given how shoddy later production runs can be, I was hesitant to finally pull the trigger until I came across this decent looking older used copy on eBay. Glad to finally have one, it feels like a piece of childhood!

And it looks good next to my tooth ;D

Picked up the Safari Woolly Rhino during a belated birthday visit to my state museum this past weekend. Although their selection of prehistoric models in the gift shop has shrunk considerably (and quite depressingly I might add), it's nice they had this Ice Age icon on offer.

Spoiler

Always need more teeth!

Finally came across the Safari Nasutoceratops at a price I could accept. I had one a few years back but foolishly sold it off, only to learn how difficult they are to find anymore. At long last, balance is restored, and I believe this is the last Doug Watson ceratopsian figure I was missing? Really a shame we don't see more of these any more.

Spoiler

Had to get some HLG comparisons in there too.

And I have once again danced with the devil that is Target Circles week >:D

Patience paid off with this Reimagined Carno. Between the sales, a birthday coupon and gift card acquired through grocery shopping, I think I paid all of 12 bucks for this guy. Well worth it I would say!

Also picked up a couple of extra HC figures. The first Allo was actually a birthday gift but then I got a second basically for free when I decided to get another Atrociraptor and Scuto pair.

And then of course there was the Diplodocus. Feels kind of dumb to have bought one of these when I don't even have a place to put it, not to mention we have the upcoming Titanosaurus to worry about :-[  But again, those sale prices  :*D

But of course the real show stopper this month was the arrival of my HLG Brach. An absolute BEAST of a figure and one of the best I've seen from them!

Spoiler

The fact that it came with a Huayangosaurus, a figure I thought I would never get after sitting out the Argentionsaurus pre-order, is just icing on the cake.

Also, I feel like I never share my paleontology related book pickups here, which are quickly becoming an unwieldy collection in their own right. There's a used book store I like to visit from time to time and it would seem someone recently parted with several Indiana Press Life of the Past books and between the relatively cheap prices and the desire to support an actual brick and mortar book store in this day and age, I couldn't very well pass these up. Will I ever sit down and read any of these cover to cover? Unlikely, but just having them on my shelves adds to the aura!

Still need to track down the Real Feel Carno... Never showed up to the UK of course ::)

Anyone know of sources that ship to the UK?

Yeah, avatar_Carnoking @Carnoking, I can really relate to that :*D

Brontozaurus

Got something old and something new. Let's start with the something new: the Cyberzoic Allosaurus!

It's definitely my new centrepiece. Can't wait for the gear to release.

The something old was a box of my toys from my parents place. They've retired and are downsizing ahead of moving into a smaller flat next year, so every time they've roadtripped to my city they've dropped off more of my stuff.

I'm in the process of sorting out what I want to keep and what I'm happy to part with. Most of it is probably going in the keep pile, I'm mostly moving on the kiddier toys or things I'm just not that fond of (hi original CollectA Mapusaurus).

Also in the photo is the Paleo Pines plush Therizinosaurus. I'm wondering if the Paleo Pines toys would be good for the blog, I have all of them so far and they're definitely interesting enough by plush dino standards.

We can't help it that there are so many good books on the subject!

The Paleo Pines plushes would definitely be welcome on the blog avatar_Brontozaurus @Brontozaurus. I play the game but don't have any of the plushes.

It's funny, when I see a dinosaurs offered at thrift stores I always smile but leave it, thinking I'd rather see a (possibly low-income) kid find it and get it to start/fuel a new life-long passion like I've had throughout my life.   :)

Oh, really? When I see a toy box dinosaur I don´t have yet, I take it with me unscrupulously. But to be honest, I don't buy and save every rubber abomination anymore, so there is enough for the young paleontologists. ^-^  ;)

Congrats everyone, especially avatar_Mellow Stego @Mellow Stego and avatar_Brontozaurus @Brontozaurus for their gorgeous new Allosaurus figures. What an amazing sculpt (and species, of course  ;)  ).

They're the CollectA Utahraptor and Wild Republic Velociraptor. Both I'm pretty happy to move on since they're not particularly special and the Velociraptor is definitely better off as a kids toy.

A couple of recent lucky eBay finds: the Invicta Dimetrodon and the Toyway WWD Leaellynasaura:

The Dimetrodon has been one of my most sought-after figures for a while, and it's actually the last figure I needed in order to complete my (unpainted) Invicta collection. Sadly, I can't show them all together at the moment, as most of them are in storage at my parents' house.

I was never really planning to get the Leaellynasaura, but when I saw it in a lot for cheap I jumped at the opportunity, and now that I have it in hand I actually like it quite a lot. I'll be using it as a Dryosaurus on my Morrison Formation shelf.
One day we will know the truth about Spinosaurus... but not today.
