Quote from: stargatedalek on May 08, 2025, 03:36:01 AMSome days I feel like I must be one of the few people here who doesn't hate fun. The movies not even out, it looks far more consistent with the original trilogy in terms of tone and aesthetics than the JW trilogy did, and everyone is just talking about how they aren't even going to give it a shot or even hope that it fails.

I'm excited for it, and for more weird mutants! I say bring it on! The weirder the better! Indominus was such a boring letdown of a hybrid design. As for why they don't use the Chaos Effect designs, I assume for the same reason we likely haven't seen any Mattel figures of them; Hasbro might have full or partial ownership of them.

I'm trying to be open minded. I didn't care for the hybrids much but the Indominus grew on me as a Frankenstein's monster type character as did the Indoraptor with it's vampire-like behavior.

Hmm Mattel did do colors though of many early Kenner and Hasbro designs. These guys already have that feel, especially the toys with crazy color pallets. I think Universal could pretty much do as it likes and make something if not exact, very similar.

Would be dope to see a raptor that looks like the Kenner Chaos Effect one in the modern line. It was the coolest thing when I was a kid (although I never had it, but a kid at school did), and I still like it to this day.

Edit: At the very least I am excited for the figures for the film. Still waiting for news of JWE3 any day now. I'm keeping my expectations low because how much I ended up not enjoying Dominion. I want to enjoy this and have fun with it though, especially with the trio of Spinosaurus, return of a JPIII styled quilled raptor, the river scene from the novel, and the mesoamerican styled temple with the "feathered serpent" Quetzalcoatlus.

And even if the final Aquilops design is still brachycephalic like the marketing art and toys, the new electronic Mattel toy has got me excited to see it. It makes adorable little angry dog sounds, and others. And aside from Microceratus in the prior Dominion (in reality Graciliceratops), we seldomly see any non ceratopsid ceratopsians in media (aside from Protoceratops), and it seems like it will have a larger role then Dominion's Microceratus, based on the merch and marketing it is getting (although its film presence is yet to be revealed).

I feel the same apprehension, everything here looks so good and fun...but I did think Dominion looked really good too, and then as time goes on, I like it less

It's an okay watch, I feel hypnotised when it comes on simply because it's a dinosaur movie and constantly throws new locations and colours at you too.

If this film is more like TLW then I'm gonna like it. It's touching upon some interesting elements of JP3 that weren't e-LAB-orated on, too.

See I'm a bit of the opposite, I can dislike something the first time but over time it grows on me.

I'm the same. I was excited to see "Jurassic Park", but walked out of it extremely disappointed. Likely because I read the book first. I was expecting a bit more on the side of the science part; I was looking forward to the explanation by Grant on why the dinosaurs were breeding and the big reveal when they changed the upper limit on the computer and saw how many dinos of each type were actually there. However, I took a deep breath and watched it again as it was intended to be watched, and over time it has become a favorite of mine.

I've actually warmed up to this film, in spite of not liking "Jurassic
World: Fallen Kingdom" and "JW: Dominion", though they both have grown on me a bit.

BTW, if you haven't read the books I recommend with five stars both "Jurassic Park" and "The Lost World". Both are excellent reads.

Blade-of-the-Moon

My mom read Jurassic Park to me along with Far-Seer and others.  Isaw dinosaurs on covers and bought them but often couldn't read the larger words lol I d recall seeing JP and loving it but also disappointed how it didn't have all the scenes in the book I loved. This was my first experience with books differ from films.

I think I'm going to hold off with watching the second trailer to keep some stuff fresh for the theater. Though I must ask, are there any new dinos shown off in it (raptor, Aquilops, etc)?

No new dinosaurs.

CityRaptor

Really getting some Jaws vibes from the Mosasaurus scenes....well, more than usual.
Nice to see that one scene from the original novel in a movie.

You know, I wonder what exactly makes the T.rex they left on that island more dangerous than any of their other Rexes....
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

Primeval12

I'm officially sold on
Spoiler

The scene at the end is utterly horrifying!

Cretaceous Crab

My question is: is the mosasaurus in this film supposed to be the same one from JW and JWFK? Or another one entirely?

It's a different one for sure, it's green and has a different back and tail.

Def caught those references too.

Maybe it's more territorial/ smarter?  It has to be strong to go up against the Beluga Rex.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it looks greener than all the other T. rex, which might be relevant ;) (See 3:10 onward): https://archive.org/details/the-grim-adventures-of-billy-and-mandy_202212/season+3/The+Grim+Adventures+of+Billy+%26+Mandy+S03+E01+Super+Zero+-+Sickly+Sweet.mp4

BTW, remind me, does the novel's T. rex swim underwater like Rebirth's T. rex? :-\ Looks weird, given what we currently know ( https://www.eofauna.com/publications/dinosaur-densities-press-release ):

Finally... A weapon to surpass Jurassic Park 3 Spinosaurus...

Blade-of-the-Moon

As I recall it swam like a crocodile in the novel?  I recall it stood on the bank roaring at Grant and the kids in the raft, they thought they were safe or Lex did,  then it plunged into the water after them. I recall Tim telling her " Of course it can swim!"   They did get past it though and it followed them them down river hunting them.

Quote from: HD-man on May 18, 2025, 06:32:31 AMBTW, remind me, does the novel's T. rex swim underwater like that? :-\ Looks weird by modern standards ( https://www.eofauna.com/publications/dinosaur-densities-press-release ):
This illustration makes me think about the idea, supported by some paleontologists, which hypothesizes an oceanic dispersal for some dinosaurs.
I've always been quite skeptical about such a postulate as it has been often used as an attempt at explaining the "baffling" presence of specific species on particular continents, but in no way it explains how they could have made it, through hundreds of miles, swimming in seas that were then infested with various super marine predators like mosasaurs, sharks as well as subject to various potentially unfavorable meteorological phenomenons.

Torvosaurus

The book doesn't say that it swam underwater. I've always pictured the t-rex swimming like a crocodile at the surface, myself.

In reality, how deep is that river anyways? Is it deep enough that a t-rex couldn't just bounce off the bottom like hippos do, if it even needed to bounce like that? I've fished a lot of small rivers/creeks over the years, and except for the occasional deep hole, most are a lot shallower. Based on the width of that river, I'm instantly drawn to the Laramie River, the Big Thompson or the upper Arkansas, where you can wade across a lot of the river a good portion of the year. A t-rex wouldn't even get its knees wet.
