Quote from: Torvosaurus on May 31, 2025, 11:13:09 PMI think part of the reason "Jurassic World" ranked so high is because it targeted a new generation. I thought it was okay, but my son loved it, seeing dinosaurs on the big screen for the first time. He'd already seen the Jurassic Park movies, but on a DVD. Even seeing "Jurassic World" on a big screen made me remember that awe of seeing the first shot of the Brachiosaurus in "Jurassic Park" again.

Definitely this is a factor. My young nephews saw Jurassic World at the cinema and thought it was really cool. I asked them if they had seen the original Jurassic Park films and they said "no". I asked them if they wanted to watch them and they said "nah, you're alright". "Why not!?". "It's old". ;D Most children don't care about what they perceive as boring old films that came out before they were born.

That kind of response would cause me physical and emotional pain. Personally, I would never take my kids to see the 4th film in a franchise without watching the others first.

I actually introduced my 10 y/o daughter to Jurassic Park last night, with bated breath. I was worried because she's a bit sensitive to violence, especially where animals are concerned (cow and goat) but it was a success. The part that worried her the most was Tim stuck in the car in the tree. Anyway, she liked it enough that I had to put Jurassic World bed sheets on her bed today and she spent some time playing with my Jurassic toys. She's been playing with them for years so she was excited to see the characters and vehicles she's been playing with in this movie that I've been putting on a pedestal all her life. If we can get through all the movies by July I might take her to see Rebirth, for better or worse. Going with my kid is the only way I'll get to see it.

A few weeks ago I tried to introduce her to Star Wars, starting with A New Hope, and it didn't work out. Empire didn't hold her attention either and by the time we got to Return of the Jedi she wasn't even in the room anymore. I wonder if starting with the prequels is the way to go but...ugh. :*D

Well, I was a bit taken aback, and I did say Jurassic Park is really good and they'd like it, but they were still unconvinced, and I wasn't gonna argue, because I could tell that would just make them want to watch it less! Their loss, after all, and they'll get to the film in their own time (they may well already have by now, I should ask next time I see them) and surely regret not having watched it earlier when they do. But, if they were my kids they'd immediately get the Clockwork Orange treatment...  :*D

Jurassic World relies so heavily on Jurassic Park nostalgia and sprinkles so much of the original park throughout the film that I cannot imagine watching it and NOT wanting to see what it was referencing. All well, that's kids!

All the overbearing nostalgia is part of the reason why I didn't like Jurassic World so much. It would have probably been a better experience going in blind, where the whole concept of a dinosaur theme park is new.

The nostalgia bait worked on me in this instance. It normally doesn't though, I couldn't stand the new Ghost Busters films because of it. Weird how that works.

Quote from: Blade-of-the-Moon on June 01, 2025, 04:30:48 AMYeah same reaction I got from all the nieces, nephews, and cousins, especially anything black and white.. "that's old" .  Now  I did get one cousin to watch the Twilight Zone on New Years. She was all like " I thought this was just a ride at Disney?" but she did seem to like it watching several episodes. You can't force em'.

I'm surprised neither of you were like, "Ah, You damn kids with your music" (3:30). I would've been ;) :

You know, with the inclusion of the raft scene, I wonder if Universal will updated the Orlando JP Ride with a Rebirth overhaul?  It actually could work and the ride has had a lot of problems with animatronics and effects for years.

Quote from: MLMjp on May 31, 2025, 03:11:00 PMSpeaking about filling roles. What these things can do that a Velociraptor and a Pteranodon can't? In fact here is an idea, have a scene that involves both Velociraptors and Pteranodons. The humans are fleeing from one only to run into the other, and thus we have a brief dispute betwen the Raptor and Pteranodons, imagine a Pteranodon striking a Velociraptor with it's beak, or a Velociraptor jumping on a Pteranodon to bring it down...

Funnily enough, a fight scene between raptors and Pteranodons was originally planned for The Lost World at one stage. Lost World has raptors attacking human characters at a gas station and now Rebirth has Mutadons attacking human characters at a gas station, so maybe they're re-visiting that idea like they are with the raft scene.

So 65 million years ago mosquitos only sucked blood of dinosaurs that are known to science today? 🤨

With all the DNA-bearing mosquitos that were caught, more than a few would have been dinosaurs not known to science. Not a Tyrannosaurus, Brachiosaurus, Metriacanthosaurus, Stegosaurus, Triceratops, Carnotaurus, etc., but a totally new species that humans had not recovered from bones. I think JW jumped the gun on hybrids when they had an almost limitless supply of unknown dinosaurs to pull from. Not that they'd want to over-do it mind you, but they had an alternative route. Honestly, the mutadons kind of look like a giant form of Yi qi, except for the tail.

Actually I can understand a mutant dinosaur during creation, because there is always a trial and error period. The hybrids should have been used sparingly and should not have shown up again in yet another film.

That's basically what they originally wanted to do with the Indominus. Malusaurus was to be a previously unknown dinosaur. I prefer the hybrid approach though, since it adds to the theme of humans messing with nature. But I think your point can be explained in-universe if the scientists originally cloned these unknown dinosaurs and thought they were wrong upon being born, and subsequently "fixing" them to resemble known species. I kind of wish the films gave us more explanation about version numbers and stuff like the books did-- besides that one line from Wu in the fourth film about nothing in Jurassic World being natural.

avatar_Pachyrhinosaurus @Pachyrhinosaurus I didn't know that about Indominus, thank you.

I'll go for your scientist explanation, but it doesn't say much for their intelligence if they hadn't figured out that some dinosaurs they were cloning nay not have been discovered yet. 😂

We touched on this explanation in previous posts.  There really is no way for them to know. Take the Spinosaurus. You get something that looks like the Rebirth ones but science up to the the point they created them said Spinosaurus walked on it's hind legs and looked like a Baryonyx/Suchomimus.

That would actually give them something to go on. A new species that there is no scientific proof of pretty much doesn't exist even if it does. There is just no way to even start to figure out if what you have grown is real or a monster.

I dont' know what it is, but I have a good feeling. Somehow I think it could be one of the better sequels dispite hybrid Rancor and Co :D

I said "the teen", but I meant "the dad". In any case, I hope at least 1 of them gets eaten, so as to avoid a JWD ending (I.e. Did you also recently watch a really bad sequel & think something like, "At least Rebirth looks like a better/more entertaining watch than this"? If so, then I know what you mean. In my case, said sequel was s2 of The Last of Us ;)

I have to say no  :))  I didn't watched "The last of us" already and I don't have it on my watch list.

It was a feeling that catched me yesterday. In the months before "JW: Dominion" was released I always thought "Don't mess it up."...and yeah, you know...imo they did :)) Especially their "Giganato-Acrocantho-Indominus"-saurus felt like a slap in the face.

So I hav ethe feeling, that "JW: rebirth" could be fresh. Despite featherless vulture-saurus and tumor-rancor-Spaceball-Alien-saurus :*D

Quote from: HD-man on May 21, 2025, 12:51:16 PMThank you for summing up most of my thoughts. At this point, I think it's safe to say that the Titanosaurus is my favorite for being both reasonable ( https://www.syfy.com/syfy-wire/we-thought-we-knew-the-most-immense-dinosaur-ever ) & fun ( https://www.reddit.com/r/GODZILLA/comments/1ikkrd6/so_about_the_new_jw_rebirth_titanosaurus_design/ ). I also like the T. rex. It kinda reminds me of Wierum's "Rex" ( https://www.deviantart.com/fredthedinosaurman/art/Rex-788251011 ), but greener:

I think this Rebirth/JWD comparison is especially good at showing what I mean:

The Ankylosaurus has been featured in the marketing material (such as on one of the Dr. Pepper cans) so I'm not too surprised in seeing it come back. That other one, would be a pleasant surprise, and I would absolutely need a new Mattel figure and mini of it.

Hmm, looking at this Jurassic Park Arcade Game:
Vehicles are similar....
Capture 3 specific Dinosaurs before the Island blows up....
Okay, that is probably due to the basic plot being rather generic.
Weapons in the game are apparently meant to be non-lethal....uh, yeah, not buying that.
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no
