CollectA has announced that Anthony Beeson, who was the driving force behind their prehistoric collection, has passed away. No word yet on the reason why. Needless to say, his legacy stands on shelves and display cases across the globe.

Farewell, good sir. We thank you.  :(

In the kingdom of the blind, better take public transit. Well, in the kingdom of the sighted, too, really--almost everyone is a terrible driver.

Oh, no, that's terrible news. He will certainly be missed, and I hope his close friends and family get the support they need.

It raises questions for the future of Collecta's prehistoric line, too, of course...

Blade-of-the-Moon

Terrible news, he wasn't all that old was he?  I didn't think so anyway?

Faelrin

I'm shocked to find out about this, and this is very upsetting. I will definitely miss his work, and insight beyond what went into the figures shared through Everything Dinosaur's update posts. I hope he rests in peace, and his family and friends have the support to get through his passing.

Very sad news. Shall he rest in peace, and I hope his family and closest ones get the support they need.

Of course, I hope CollectA remains strong after these shocking news.

Well stated. He was a master of his craft and is leaving some big shoes to fill.

Here's ED's blog post about him.

He was born in 1948.

May he rest in peace.

His work led to one of the best modern prehistoric toy lines.

ceratopsian

I think that he was born in 1948.

Such sad news for our collecting community.

He was actually, had no idea.
May he rest in peace.

So many people, even the men, are reaching the 80 mark and beyond, so 74, while traditionally old, doesn't seem quite so old anymore.

That news made me very sad, the sad news of the death of Anthony Besson, but honestly, if he was born in the year 48, it does not seem to me that he died prematurely, especially when there are many people in the first world who die at 40, 50 years old, it is not normal but it happens. My grandfather, for example, passed away at the age of 101, but it is not normal, no one has bought life or bought death, but I can assure you that I am not going to reach the age of Anthony Besson or the age of my grandfather and if I reach that age I will not have the quality of life of both and this is the case with many people who do not belong precisely to developing countries and I comment it with all due respect to the rest of the DTF member and with all my love and It's just my appreciation.

For me, 72 years of life is a long time, but I can say that people like Anthony Besson is one of those people who should never die, it's sad news.

Gothmog the Baryonyx

It's awful news, he was a very significant figure and will he greatly missed. I hope his legacy can continue

Very sad to hear this news. His work with Collecta was excellent in generating often newly discovered, obscure or rarely made species and the overall quality seemed to improve all the time. I'm sure this helped raise the bar across the toy companies and resulted in some healthy competition.

Interestingly, in his working life he was a  respected classicist expert on Rome and ancient Greece, in Bristol's city libraries and it's museum. His Wikipedia entry mainly concerns his achievements in that field:

CollectA has released an obituary, including the cause of death. Very sad.  :(

Quote
It is with great sadness that we inform you today that our long-time friend and consultant Mr Anthony Beeson passed away after suffering a severe heart attack.

Anthony was an Expert in paleo-imagery, he was the master-mind behind the pre-historic collection and his profound knowledge was highly respected by CollectA fans and his circle of specialists alike.

Anthony loved the creativity of the work and he was very insisting on little details that -after all- made a difference to the figurine models which made them to what they are liked for. We will all miss his very polite way and jolly nature. His remembrance will always hold a special memory in our hearts.

We feel deep sympathy for Anthony's family in these sad times.

While we let Anthony now take his final rest, we at CollectA will continue to move forward in his honour. It is a challenging task but we have a strong team of consultants and advisors with many years of experience around us. We will continue growing our line as we have in the past and as Anthony would have said "Wishing you all a happy and educational year of play and collecting."

Awful way to go. Just as upsetting as when Dan passed (though I learned of the fact afterwards). I think I'll definitely do a haul of CollectA figures if/when I can later in the year. I'm way behind on their Edaphosaurus, Estemmenosuchus, the invertebrates, and so many others. Would be a good way to honor him and his contributions to those figures.

That's really sad. I've found myself looking at my CollectA figures and thinking about his passing. Although it's nice to realize his legacy will remain in the multitude of collections around the world. My condolences to everyone personally affected by his loss and also wishing the best to CollectA so they continue honoring his memory with the many figures he worked on.

EmperorDinobot

Oh, this is most unfortunate. While I only have 4 or so CollectA figures, I always did look forward to reading the reviews of all the new figures on the dinotoyblog.

He now belongs to the ages.
