Mattel - New for 2024

It's just been confirmed we are getting another show on Netflix, specifically a sequel to Camp Cretaceous. So that more then likely explains the Allosaurus and Triceratops designs, as I thought earlier. Of course still need to wait and see for sure if their designs are respective of that, but it would explain the heavy stylization going with them. The Triceratops in particular is a stark contrast with this year's and last year's HC release.

Looks to me the bright folks at Mattel decided to go for the Camp Cretaceous design of Blue rather than the infinitely more popular one portrayed in the actual movies .

I actually really like the CC design a bit more than the film one.

Aside from the way too short tail and body, along with the the not-Carnotaurus Carnotaurus horns, the Ekrixinatosaurus is pretty cool! If I'm not mistaken I think this is Mattel's first true elbow-less Abelisaur since the first two molds of Carnotaurus.

@crazy8wizard Majungasaurus didn't have elbows either. It was the 2022 figures that gave them all elbows for some reason, maybe to be in line with the film's Carnotaurus design, or perhaps lack of research.

The crown of horns, and spikes makes this look a bit more awesome bro then the Rebor one (which in all fairness was just the Disney design without the horns). While unlikely, I don't mind it though, as it gives it some unique character.

Someone also pointed it out on instagram, and it's worth sharing here, that every pic of the Megalosaurus has been like another coloration. At least the in box image is the final deal.

No, the Majungasaurus has a very slight elbow bend and you can tell there's a distinct ulna and radius.

Granted not as extreme as the Rajasaurus or Skorpiovenator but it's there.

@crazy8wizard I have the figure in hand. The bend you are seeing there is where the hands meet the arms, as the metacarpals nearly extend up to that point. Looking at it from both from the top side and the underside confirms this. It is possible they gave it wrists, due to the orientation of the hands, and that they larger then the arms though. The hands also lack the fourth spur digit (assuming it's hands were like Carnotaurus, if not other abelisaurids). The arms are thin, and short, and meet up to the ball jointed shoulders (which are ball shaped because of the joint inside, although that's only obvious if one sticks the arms out horizontally, and looks at them from below). We know from several abelisaurids that the shoulders were ball and socket joints, so that articulation actually works pretty well more or less.

I can take some pics if you'd like to get a better look at it from different angles.

Pretty sure I mentioned it earlier on in this thread. Mammals may be too much to ask, but it sure would be cool if Mattel made Barinasuchus, Ninjemys, and Purussaurus.

You can avoid having to exclude the humans, hybrids, and foxes in the Cenozoic lumping by narrowing it down to "First Neogene animal"

Smilodon is canon, however. I don't collect mammals, but since it is a canon animal, it should be included. Yet every company with a license seems to ignore it and Spinoceratops. from CC, as well as Microceratus and Oviraptor from JWD.

Mattel did make a plushie of the Spinoceratops/Sino-spino but strangely no figures of it. It is unfortunate the rest of those don't have any figures yet either. Can't technically have a complete film species collection without them. At least we got the Corythosaurus and Mamenchisaurus this year to finish off the original trilogy though.

Looks like a totally new product. Not sure why Mattel always seems to put their worst foot forward when revealing these toys

It looks like it could be the same product, but the original image was just very soft looking. Not sure what's going on with it but the angle, posing, and head position just make it look bad, and either the image or the item itself was just very soft on detail.

Aside from getting a completely different color scheme, the new product photo just looks sharper and more detail-inclusive. It could still have the same awkward overbite, but I dunno why Mattel would choose to showcase that aspect originally.

Hoping that goofy overbite is gone. Still a shame there's no wrist articulation though. If the ankles can support it then surely the wrists too. Such an odd choice.

Definitely a lot better than the first reveal image. It looks a lot different. I guess it was the perspective and the color appearing washed out; faded. Earlier, I said that the mainline version was better but this one takes the cake for sure. According to Collect Jurassic, it's likely to be releasing after Blue and Owen.
