Qualia NEW FOR 2023

Hey.

I've hesitated to post about this as it has so far been fairly difficult to obtain but since after about two weeks my source and I have been able to get almost all of those requested by our buyers, I figure it's a fair time to mention...

The second Qualia set released early this month as a Fukui Dinosaur Museum exclusive. It consists of 5 capsules, 6 figures--t-rex, Fukuiraptor, Fukuinator, a spinosauridae, and one capsule containing one base that holds two differently aged young t-rexes.), with the per capsule cost the usual 500 yen.

But, because the set is venue limited--and not a venue in or near Tokyo--the figures have been very sparsely offered online--with none so far on YAJ, and those appearing elsewhere selling extremely quickly and for, of course, much higher prices than the first, open issue set (with the chillin' (I'm way too old to say chillin'...) triceratops).

I've had to search repeatedly throughout each day to get as many as we have. We've gotten most individuals for those requesting them for between 1700 and 2200 yen each (before our fees), and most sets have been 6900 (before our fees), though I just sent an offer to one buyer for a total of 8200 yen for a set of four and the remaining individual available separately.

I'm going to send a photo of the flyer to my mailing list and ask someone to post it here.

Please PM if interested in our obtaining the set or any individuals for you and I'll follow with a request for you to e-mail. I'll respond to that mail with a paste detailing how we work.

Thanks.
Brett

Here you go:

For the record, I ordered some of the previous Qualia dinos through Brett and the process was straightforward and the figures arrived in perfect condition. Highly recommend working with him if you need something from Japan.

I never know to whom I'm speaking here based upon DTF IDs but thanks very much x2...

Personally, I think the Spinosauridae is the most interesting one.

The spinosaurid almost looks like the Jurassic World Suchomimus designed by paleo artist Julius Csotonyi (similar coloration, etc):

Agreed, that's the only one I ordered. Don't know if it's supposed to be a Suchomimus or something else.

ANIA's Fukuivenator already getting dethroned it seems ;)

Glad we're getting two new basal therizinosaurs in such close succession though. Can always count on Japanese companies to produce local taxa. (PNSO take note cough cough O:-) )

My guess is it's based on the partial spinosaurid tooth from the Sanchu group. It's known from less than one whole tooth!

Well, who knows, it might be. We have very little idea the size of the animal it's based on (if I'm guessing correctly).

It's funny, when photos of this first turned up I had just ordered the Ania one, so I guess that will go straight to my trade thread.

avatar_Halichoeres @Halichoeres Maybe that's why it's such a nondescript mix. Cool paint job though.

To update, there have been no new sets offered anywhere since I first posted this.

Unless there's some unknown at play that's going to change soon, these are, for some reason, going to be an even tougher get than expected.

We'd think there'd be a lot of sellers offering them. Maybe because so many bought the Kaiyodo Expo figures this year that they all had to sell for very low prices to compete, re-sellers are shying away from these.

But certainly ask if interested.

I still just have one set remaining needed for an existing buyer and then any others that become available are up for grabs.

Thanks.
Brett

It is a nice paint job! And I think I was mistaken: it's known from TWO partial teeth! http://www.gmnh.pref.gunma.jp/wp-content/uploads/Second-discovery-of-a-spinosaurid-tooth-from-the-Sebayashi-Formation-Lower-Cretaceous-Kanna-Town-Gunma-Prefecture-Ja1.pdf  ;D

Could it be based on this paper? https://www.researchgate.net/publication/350343224_Spinosaurid_teeth_from_the_Lower_Cretaceous_Kitadani_Formation_of_the_Tetori_Group_Fukui_Japan

Oh, possibly. I'd forgotten there were two localities in Japan with only teeth to give evidence of spinosaurids having lived there. With 18 teeth, I guess that one is 9× as well known!

Concavenator

I suddenly remembered this quote by avatar_Halichoeres @Halichoeres

Quote from: Halichoeres on February 01, 2023, 08:12:39 PMThe Spinosauridae has to be more completely represented in plastic than almost any dinosaur clade of similar diversity and duration. Even the extremely fragmentary genera have figures. No doubt next year companies will bring us Riparovenator, Vallibonavenatrix, and Ostafrikasaurus.

Yeah, I don't quite understand why, because spinosaurids, except Suchomimus and Baryonyx, are pretty fragmentary and poorly understood. But that statement is looking painfully accurate.

In retrospect, I should have included a specific prediction for "unnamed Japanese tooth specimen."

Thanks for that link, avatar_Faelrin @Faelrin. I ordered a Fukuiraptor. The color scheme seems partially inspired by Sinosauropteryx. Looks pretty good.

Thanks, Toby. I have both links, and I check the latter many times per day.

But while there have been individuals, there hasn't been a new set listed on Mercari in at least a week.
