Pfew, someone must really, really want to own that figure.
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

Silvanusaurus

I had no idea the Bullyland Ankylosaurus was that sought after! I got one new with tag on ebay in the UK last year for about £10.

Lanthanotus

While I sold mine (as new with tag) to a forum member and do not regret it, I now wished I had a second one :D

The Bullyland Ankylosaurus was on discussion in the forum just a few days ago :
http://dinotoyblog.com/forum/index.php?topic=2141.msg178048#msg178048 .
I suppose they bid too - and this is what happen when one of the bidders ( I have my guess who that might be ) is pursuing the method of giving an initial high bid.

I got mine in a compulsory way, as part of a lot, when I was interested in another item -
had to pay additional 5 euros for the Ankylosaurus :

I realy don't understand the fuss and the prices reached with these items.
Why is it "hard to find" ? who will be interested in finding those ?
They look to me like Amature made - what makes them "rare" maybe - but not necessarily 'collectibles' ?
they are not so nice to the eyes, sort of speak - what am I missing here ?
Another two like this :

I think what you are missing is the date, these were made in the 1950s and are part of the evolution of dinosaur toys. They were made by an Italian company based on the Zallinger murals and I am not sure how wide spread they were distributed. I know there are a lot of people here who only collect the newest and the best but there are many like myself who collect the stuff from the early days of dinosaur toys. My collection goes back to the forties and sure they look like an amateur could have made it but that speaks to what was known about dinosaurs and the state of the toy industry and materials that were available. I find it fascinating to see how the business has evolved.
Another neat thing about these Chialu figures are made of a composite material. Dinosaur toys over years have been made of lead, composites, wax, rubber and plastics.
Another thing that makes these collectible is nostalgia, if you were a kid in the 50s and you are lucky enough to still be with us and either had these or wanted them that makes them desirable to you. As far as rarity is concerned they weren't produced in the numbers they are today and anything surviving the 50s is going to be fairly rare especially if they were meant to be played with.

Thanks.
I understand the age - I don't understand the price -
There are some other 50's - 60's dinos here ( Marx, Pyro, etc. ) -
but not at those prices.
Something make THOSE unique even when broken.

Marx, Ajax, Pyro etc were widely distributed and were made in the case of Marx anyway from more durable materials. I had never even heard of Chialu and Orsengio until I began collecting in 2000 so I suspect they weren't sold in North America but I could be wrong. The material durability makes them rare as well the same is true between the J H Miller figures and Marx, since the Miller figures were so fragile they are rarer today so more expensive as well.

Halichoeres

Yeah, the Chialu figures were made of a paste that included bonemeal, so they're particularly prone to crumbling (worse than Starlux even). I think they were sold in the States, but they were expensive even when they were new (unlike Marx for example). My Sphenacodon has a missing limb or two. I have an Ankylosaurus in better shape, but I would gladly trade it for the Brachauchenius. But good to know, based on this auction, that the Anky can get me a few weeks' worth of food in a pinch...

Those sculpts are actually AAAs. Why they are sold as Battat, I do not know. I have seen this happen a few times (I saw an AAA crocodile being sold as a Battat, too) but it's not common.

I heard a rumour that AAA toys aren't sold in the States due to failing the required safety testing. I have bought AAAs from American stores, so that can't be true.

I have a soft spot for AAA animals, I used to be a big collector of their reptiles, and I had many of their zoo animals when I was younger :-[ They are a mysterious company...

Mysteriously Awesome! Check out the link to the dino collector site below. theres some interesting info, even about how AAA manufactured for other distributors, like ELC and Battat. Kinda rings with my own thouts, as I've never seen them marketed as AAA before, always under some sortof other company name, even back to their oldest hollow figures.
