spinosaurus1

they all, or at least the tyrannosaurus needs to be animated. seriously, that something that would make a viewer wanting to see move.

Thanks! :) I wish I knew how to rig and animate, I'd totally do it!

Tallin

You can get a copy of Autodesk Maya for free if you're in education at a uni or anything - I use that for animating and hope to use to animate my sculpts eventually. There are also tons of tutorials online to rigging and stuff! :)

I actually have Blender, because I once wanted to get into animation. I just haven't found enough motivation to dive into it, yet, haha. :D But at least I have started watching tutorials again, which is a plus.

I am curious to see your models come to life, Tallin!

Tallin

That's great! I tried learning blender a long time ago but it's so complicated...I found Maya was easier to get the hang of :)

fabricious

Ah, good to know! I just got myself Maya and Mudbox, we'll see where this'll lead me. ;)

Tallin

awesome! I look forward to seeing its results!

Update on my Pachyrhinosaurus redesign:

Tallin

Ooooh spiney...

Brilliant as always! Are those little spines quills like a hedgehog's or porcupine's?

stargatedalek

more comparable to a moloch lizard than a mammals quills ;)

looks very good BTW

fabricious

Yes, exactly! I wanted to go with the theory of Triceratops having these, so why not add it to another large ceratopsian that would quite need them, looking at the carnivores around. I might shorten them a bit, though. Thanks, guys!

Tallin

Ah yes, I'd forgotten about those lizards - I never thought before of dinosaurs with protection like that but seems like a great idea!

fabricious

I never really gave it much thought myself, but thinking of how unprotected a ceratopsian's backside is, compared to this impressive frill and the horns/knobs on the head, it actually makes a lot of sense. But, as with a lot of things in the dinosaur world: I wouldn't want to have the same problems while mating... :P

Tallin

If Kentrosaurus can manage, I'm sure this guy can! ;)

fabricious

Tallin

Kentrosaurus had lot's of good points too...

(laughs at own pun then flees in shame)

fabricious

Haha, good one. ;)

I just found a really nice reference for the colors I might be using: http://www.lacerta.de/AS/images-LaPalma/Gallotia-galloti-palmae-277m.jpg :D

fabricious

I started painting the Pachyrhinosaurus. I hope to get him done soon, so I can turn him into a proper poster image render. :)

Tallin

Amazing! I love the colouration and it looks very natural! :)

fabricious

Thanks! I added a bit more pattern to the frill for the 'show off' effect. Also, can you tell that I like eye-stripes? :P
