Has anyone seen the Gastonia is Target yet?

Not yet! I'm not sure it's actually been released yet.

Gastonia & Gigantoraptor will be released later in the fall. Maybe sooner.

Takama

Well I. Just got out of my local target and they did not have them :(

Dan and Danlorusso, are all targets slated to have them?

That's too bad. Well, at least I can already get the Cryolophosaurus.

My understanding is as long as the Target has a toy department, they get the toys

Dan, so far NO Target in the Phoenix area has any of the Battat dinos, or any other animals for that matter. Then, neither do they have Schleich, so......

Thanks for replying to everyone Dan - I know the readership here appreciates it!

I gather from your description of the 5" - 7" size range Battat asked you to stay within that there are no plans as of now to do a big sauropod or a Spinosaurus/Giganotosaurus size theropod?

On another note, any idea if pterosaurs or sea-going reptiles might be on the back burner at all?

Thanks!

I hope so, a Prognathodon would be awesome (as long as it has a tail fluke and isn't shrink wrapped) :). Also, some sort of titanosaur would be cool.

Here's a pic of the display at Target! The animal figures are not nearly the same quality as the dinosaurs, though the fantasy figures aren't bad! I have more pics of the display if anyone is interested in the non-dinosaurs! Also, sorry about the quality, I don't have the best camera.

[Photo lost to Photobucket Hell. It featured the Target display endcap.]

Edit: Post edited to defeat the Photobucket Menace.

Just got back from Target with all four of the new releases! I really don't have any complaints, about any of them. Maybe that the Therizinosaur is featherless but I still like it better than the CollectA model(s). It actually should fit in well with the Safari DoC Therizinosaurus I think. Even the Pachyrhinosaurus paint job looks alright to me. In fact, all of the models and in particular the paint jobs look better in person. I can't wait for the re-releases and for the two upcoming models. I'm really excited about the Gigantoraptor.

Thanks Dan for giving us the scoop. I was wondering why all the dinosaurs were species within the same narrow size range.

So anyway, pictures forthcoming. And reviews as well. I might try to review them all (except for the Pachy obviously) in time. I can tell you now though, the reviews will be quite positive!

The Terra line is confined to the 5" - 7" range FOR NOW !! Sales will dictate which direction it goes, ie: larger, non-dinosaur critters etc. The good thing is Battat is not locked in only to Target. If the re-issued MOS Boston Series ( not sure what it will be called ) is as successful as I hope, I can always add to that series and there won't be a size limit.

loru1588

Just found out after talking with a young lady at a local Target that this series was not supposed to be displayed until NEXT week!! So, that may be the reason some stores don't have them out yet!!

DinoLord

Dan that makes sense. The target store I got the therizinosaur at on Monday no longer has any Terra figures, while another one I stopped by had no Terra figures at all. I imagine we will start seeing the reissues in the fall as well?

Okay people, everybody's a critic !! LOL So, if you have some questions, criticisms, complaints and ( god forbid ) a kind word, I'm here to do my best and answer questions. No anger, though you all might get a taste of good old NE sarcasm!!! 1st, let me give you a tutorial on how these toys were made. Battat gave me free reign on species and color schemes. The only guideline was that they were between 5" and 7". It was my decision to pick species that worked out to that size range in 1/40th scale so they would fit in with the soon to be re-issued MOS Boston series. The finished 1 piece original Super Sculpy sculpture is sent to the caster to be molded in rubber. If the caster deems it would be easier to mold & de-mold it is his choice to cut the original into pieces. From there the resin casting are made. We need 5 copies of each; 3 for the steel mold, 1 as the paint master and 1 as an archival piece. The toy molds are multi-pieced injection molds so 3 toys are made at the same time. The "slugs" as they are called come out in whatever color plastic they are using, usually a neutral color.  From that stage they are assembled if they were made multi-pieced, then go to the paint area where the basic patterns are masked and the rest of the detail is hand painted. I have no idea what some of you folks are talking about as far as loose plastic, can someone post some pics of these areas please? You can go to my Dinosaur Studio Facebook Page to see the original Amargasaurus sequence, until I learn how to post pics here!

Faaascinating :o the sequence with Amargasaurus, from paper to finish is something I had been looking forward to seeing for a long time. Wow.

You'd probably like the new CollectA mosasaur if Battat can't come through soon enough--it's nice and fat, with a big tail fluke and everything. And it's a big figure.

Oh, yeah I really still have to get that one.

So for a therizinosaur to have lost 100% of feathers or even 50% (I don't think it's reasonable to say it was covered head to toe), there needs to be some behavioral or anatomical tradeoff. I'm having a harder time picturing a gigantic biped taking extensive mud baths than simply retaining feathers on the back and wings to shade itself...

I am a little confused. I keep seeing size thrown around as part of the reason not to make theris or giganotoraptor feathered... But wasn't Yutyrannus just as big? I am just curious why size is still part of the debate after the discovery of Yutyrannus.
My living room smells like old plastic dinosaur toys... Better than air freshener!

That same thought occurred to me. Yutyrannus was about 30' long! This therizinosaur (according to the box it came in) was 17'. Now granted they may have come from different ecosystems with different climates but I still think it likely this therizinosaur was a feathered animal. It is such a beautiful model though that I can't take too much issue with its nudity. I dare say it is my favorite therizinosaur toy I've come across so far.

Walking With Monsers:
[about Lystrosaurus] Astonishingly, their vast herds make up more than half of all life on Earth. Never again will a single species do so well.

Walking With Monsters: (Hynerpeton) To avoid injury the males demonstrate their strength  in a strange  push up contest.
