The Tupuxuara is beautiful, even though it lacks fuzz. The Apatosaurus doesn't seem half bad, but it'll need to look better when actually released for me to get it- possibly. Maybe. I'll probably get it anyway, it looks much better than the average Apato.

Im happy with these new ones. Specially with Tupuxura. Yeah they are sideshow copies, but very well done! Apatosaurus could be a sucessfull for JW. But I dont understand why juvenile. Maybe the size will be small compared with brachiosaurus.
But I think 2 figures this year is very small compared to other years. I hope the next years we will have many WWD, Sideshow and JW inspired figures.

They are being released in early 2015...perhaps, there are more Papo pieces left for the rest of the year?

We can only hope!

Now that I think of it the Apatosaurus would make some great customization fodder...

Pachyrhinosaurus

I like the pose, as it appears to be similar to that of the Carnegie Apatosaurus (A. louisae) mount. I think the neck looks a little skeletal, though, I'll look through the pictures again. The tupe's hands are also pointing outward, as opposed to forward, a detail which is usually neglected in pterosaurs. I'll buy both certainly.

The pterosaur is pretty well done.  8)

The Apatosaurus looks a bit 'melty', but fits with Papo's other Jurassic Park (now Jurassic World) inspired figures.

Despite it being called a 'juvenile' by Everything Dinosaur (who published the photos) the Apatosaurus looks pretty adult-proportioned to me. The neck length reminds me of A. ajax but the hip positioning looks more like A. excelsus to me.
Ah, I understand now. I agree, it doesn't look like a juvie to me either.

Is it me, or does it have two pairs of nostrils?

That is funny, if true. It's like having 2 noses  :o

Also the figure representing a 'juvenile' is a letdown; reminds me of the too small Carnegie Brachiosaurus.

I'm confused about this. On the one hand, the model is labeled as 'juvenile' by Everything Dinosaur. On the other hand, the model is so large, that they had trouble fitting it into a single picture. Papo had to zoom out, and attempt to cover the entire body via an inset.

Another thing I dislike about the Apatosaurus is that it doesn't look actually like a juvenile. At first glance, I thought it was an adult. I'm sure I'll end up getting it anyway. And hey, at least it won't have a heavy price tag like the Brachiosaurus.

I hope you are right! I remembered some french store have a temporal exclusivity of some figures like coelodonta, oviraptor, tylosaurus.
@Everything Dinosaurs: There are more planned figures? Or these 2 are the only 2015 figures?

I am totally agree with you ^-^. Tupuxuara and Apatosaurus are really awesome  ^-^.
[Off Nick and Eddie's reactions to the dinosaurs] Oh yeah "Ooh, aah", that's how it always starts. But then there's running and screaming.

{about the T-Rex) When he sees us with his kid isn't he gonna be like "you"!?

Agreed! I'm not even a big pterosaur collector but there are 3 pterosaur models being released this year that I'll have to get (because I do like the Schleich model). I'm especially fond of the models in the resting pose vs. in flight. So much easier to display. Honestly that is one reason why I don't have more pterosaurs.

And the Apatosaurus, certainly not flawless. But a great model regardless and easily the best Apatosaurus now on the market for the price range it is in.

I can see the Sideshow inspiration in both of these but at least they don't look like carbon copies (like the Carnotaurus), there is still some artistic license taken with these that make them unique. Since I'll never fork over the money for a Sideshow model these Papo models are the next best thing. And about as "high end" as I can afford to go.

That tupuxuara is beautiful, even though its pretty obviously a copy I'll definitely be getting one (maybe two even, since I know someone who has a thing for this species!)
The skull is highly shrink wrapped and it lacks pycnofibres, but I can overlook these for such a lovely sculpt of a (relatively) obscure species

Apatosaurus looks nice, but sauropods aren't really my thing, if I saw one in a shop I'd pick it up but considering the local availability of Papo that's unlikely...

Blade-of-the-Moon

I'll pick up both of them. The Apatosaurus is said to be a young one..so it could be a sub-adult? little smaller, looks basically the same.

Quen

Firstly, *gasp* Apatosaurus!

Secondly, like Blade-of-the-Moon said, maybe by "juvenile," they actually mean sub-adult? As that would account for the more adult-like appearance, as well as to make it smaller than an adult figure would be, if that is indeed the purpose of calling it juvenile.

Thirdly, maybe they made the picture the way it is in order to get a close up of the small head and to show off the detailing?

Fourthly, I don't collect pterosaurs, but the Tupuxura looks so good that I'm quite tempted to get it, much like how I feel about their Dimetrodon, actually.

Blade-of-the-Moon

It's not like Papo to actually be concerned with scale at any rate..lol

I figure the Apato should be around 12-14" at least..if it's smaller like the baby dinos ( doesn't seem likely) we should see a parent to go with it at some point.

Takama

Tha apatoe looks like it will be pretty big. like it would go well with the Brachiosaurus (which i don't have, but i saw it in person at a museum once)

if you look at the skeleton of Apatosaurus sufficiently massive neck, so I think that good aspect  ^-^,  thing that bothers nostrils. in any case i wait
Apatosaurus, i hope in March it will be available
Soory,my English is poor

sauroid

maybe Papo is claiming the Apato is a juvenile to justify the size they are making it (not 1:40 scale) because their one other (huge) sauropod didnt sell as well and they dont want to take the risk of a flop. the Tupuxuara, as everyone has pointed out is so reminiscent of the Sideshow one. i just wish it was a tad bit colorful (the head part) and has some fuzz. they both look awesome tho.
"you know you have a lot of prehistoric figures if you have at least twenty items per page of the prehistoric/dinosaur section on ebay." - anon.

tanystropheus

It seems that there are 5 Sideshow inspired pieces in the Papo prehistoric line, namely, Styracosaurus, Carnotaurus, Dilophosaurus, Apatosaurus and Tupuxuara.

I wonder if Papo will look to Jurassic World for inspiration for their next set of models...
