Personally I've never liked the idea of completely copying colouration of real animals. It's just lazy, and I wish Silva hadn't done it :(

I can see where you're coming from, but I can kinda see why Silva chose the colours he did. He chose birds that lived in the same areas or in similar climates to the corresponding raptor. It does kinda help to add this sense of familiarity among the figures. He has openly acknowledged that there's no evidence to support his choice. Though I do wish he'd spiced up the colours a little though, the fact that Zhenyuanlong looks exactly like a Magpie is why I dislike it so much. Maybe if he added some additional markings or patterns that'd be nice. Same goes for the normal Saurornitholestes, Secretary Birds are beautiful, but the figure is just too... boring.

I guess lazy was the wrong word to use....perhaps he did it because it was just much easier than coming up with so many original colours in a short space of time.

So I have been playing with my Raptor a Little today and when I wanted to put him back on his rod the clip didn't want to hold him. I inspected the clip and realised it's broken! Wow, that's So dissapointing! I didn't expect Such expensive thing to break So fast... I have had my Raptor for only two days!  :'( Since I don't really know how to properly attach larger clip, my Raptor is now simply sitting on my desk....
Anyone knows how to fix the clip or eventually where to buy a replacement?

LeapingLaelaps

Got my package today!

I got five more figures (Adasaurus, both Saurornitholestes, Tsaagan, and Acheroraptor). The paint on them seems to be really good, and unlike some of my Wave 1 guys they have no paint scuffs/rubs :D Their joints also weren't as stiff, which was nice

The only issue is that all of them have some degree of underbite or jaw deformation. It's the worst on the Tsaagan, but if you have their mouths open it's not really obvious. Kind of disappointing but at the end of the day it's not that big of a deal, because they all look so beautiful.

Probably gonna take the Saurornitholeste pair out tomorrow for some pictures! Haven't updated my photography thread in a while ::)

avatar_DragonRider02 @DragonRider02 , it is disappointing if you paid a premium and a part breaks off immediately - but transparent plastics tend to be brittle like that.  That's the reason why I'm not a fan of the choice of having the belly clips... I prefer a belly hole and a standard support rod.

There should be cheaper options out there, but here's a suggestion for a replacement:

I've had the same thing happen.  The only other "clip" is the cradle.  I think that one is just meant to hold the raptor up, but not good for super expressive poses.
I'm excited for REBOR's Acro!  Can't ya tell?

The postman dropped off my bundle today, and I wasn't expecting it since no shipping notice.  They're quite nice, and much larger than I expected.  So far, only opened the V.Mongoliensis and knock on wood, none of the issues previously reported.  I think I'll heat up the stand clip with the blowdryer before resting the figure on it seeing how people are having issues with the clip.  Clear plastic will always be more brittle unfortunately.

Gaaah congratulations! It's awesome that you were able to get one without having to trade your red raptor :D

Yeah, I'm so glad. I'm probably going to give my red raptor to my mom, because she likes it and I didn't get her one

Nice Raptors there everyone as the toes go, if they keep popping off you can always decide to super glue them to their proper position, should be doable.

I won't do that. The toy actually comes with two sets of toes (one open, one closed). If you were to permanently glue one set on, you wouldn't be able to use the other set again.

It may seem like a trivial thing, but it's a sacrifice of functionality that I'm not willing to make. Just personal preference, others might be OK with it.

What I am actually going to do is tighten the connection with a little Pledge floor polish 8)

Huge respect to you and your mum 😎 She sounds very cool!

Mine have just arrived, I'm almost too excited to open them!! At a glance my blue 'raptor has been inserted upside down in the sleeve 😂 I was intending to leave that one in the packaging, but I don't think I will!!

All of my raptors (3 from BackerKit, 1 from Etsy) have arrived in the UK, it's only a matter of time now...!

EDIT: Though, the 3 from BK have been in the UK for 2 days. I think I'll be getting a letter from HMRC before I get the raptors :/

Minmiminime

avatar_IrritatorRaji @IrritatorRaji they will be worth the wait! Mine had some very stiff joints, especially the knees, but hot water and gentle encouragement loosens them up! I haven't had a chance to fully appreciate them yet but the more I look at them the more beautiful they seem! ^-^

I've been watching loads of YT reviews before hand, they're so beautiful in the videos (Linheraptor especially!) so I can't even begin to imagine how great they'll look and feel in-hand :D

And thanks for the advice about the knees! I know the figures can have a few issues, the afore mentioned stiff knees, warped jaws, stiff necks etc but a lot of them do seem to be easily fixed with heat or water.

Minmiminime

I hadn't watched any reviews, so I wasn't prepared for just how complex and subtle the paint schemes are! The Tsaagan (the one that started it all for me!) has metallic silver highlights for example. I love the way David's sculpted the heads, they're so convincing and lifelike! I've also been surprised at how heavy the figures are.

I have the original and blue variant Velociraptors, the Tsaagan, The fan's choice Saurornitholestes, the amber nestlings and the desert access pack. The attention to detail in all pieces is consistently excellent!

Despite the fact that I didn't end up buying one, the Tsaagan was also the one who started it all for me too :) I was there when the KS first launched and I thought "THAT one, I need THAT one! That's the one I'm gonna buy!" but I came to the conclusion that I wouldn't ever be able to afford it and so forgot about the project for a while. But then in mid 2017 I decided to scour Ebay for the figures (didn't know about the delay yet), couldn't find any, checked the FB page, then I discovered all the other raptors and the Linheraptor just had me swoon :D The FC Saurornitholestes was also something I was so close to buying, but I opted for Acheroraptor and the red Velociraptor instead :))

But hearing you describe the figures like that is getting me so excited! I can't wait to actually admire all those details for myself :))

Tytyvyllvs

The first set of my BotM figures has finally arrived! I backed the Kickstarter and have been eagerly anticipating the figures since. Feels so good to finally have a couple - Velociraptor mongoliensis and Velociraptor osmolskae (blue) - in hand. Waiting on five more figures from Backerkit orders to survive the ParcelForce experience and reach me~

I've only unboxed mongoliensis. Overall happy with the quality of the figure out of the box! Articulation is great and allows for a lot of fun posing. Didn't have any trouble with overly tight joints, but the left shoulder on my Velociraptor m. is loose almost to the point of being useless in more dynamic poses. The paint is a mixed bag. For a mass produced toy, the paint job is about standard, with a few inconsistent pieces here and there (the upper arms are, annoyingly, noticeably different on my figure, for example). Considering how involved the paint is on the raptor, it's pretty good overall. I am disappointed by the amount of degradation to the paint in places. Paint's chipped away in various places, particularly around the head (the lowest neck joint is an utter mess). From a distance, it's not so bad, but up close, it's... annoying! As I've not had any trouble with paint rubbing away as I've been posing and playing with the figure, I assume the damages originated in the factory, probably from being jostled about when packed in with other parts. The problems aren't enough to take away from my overall enjoyment of the figure, anyway - still think it was well worth the investment. ;D

As far as osmolskae goes, well... I'm not too impressed with the paint application on it through the box window. The way it's applied makes the figure look almost... dirty? I'll probably keep it sealed in the box as a nice momento of this line's origins!

Here are some pics of mongoliensis!

Minmiminime

Nice! Congratulations, these models are stunning and worth every penny, regardless of the niggles 😊 My standard mongoliensis is rather scuffed in those parts, too! You're right, they must have had a rather rough time of it in the factory, because I had to thoroughly heat the joints on mine to free them, and I can't stop fiddling with the model but the paint has withstood that treatment without any signs of wear at all, so far ;)

Here's a nice review of the Tsaagan by Matt Martyniuk http://dinogoss.blogspot.com/2018/06/review-beasts-of-mesozoic-tsaagan-by.html

Terrific images of a fantastic model. Local supplier Mini Zoo may be stocking these soon (fingers crossed that it all comes to pass!) so I may be finally able to get my hands on one of them. Without paying an arm and a leg, as seems to be the case at the moment. I'll be aiming for the brown version of the Dromeosaurus, really like the look of that one, though there is no shortage of candidates.
