Children may not care as much about scientific accuracy and realism as we do. But if most kids had to choose between shleich's 2017 Utahraptor and safari's 2017 Velociraptor I think they would go for safari's.

Saying they're for children is a lame excuse for making models that are trash. The only reason shleich can get away with their level a quality standards is because they take advantage of ignorant children and parents that just buy whatever models they see at the nearest toy store rather than shop around online for quality models.

"3,000 km to the south, the massive comet crashes into Earth. The light from the impact fades in silence. Then the shock waves arrive. Next comes the blast front. Finally a rain of molten rock starts to fall out of the darkening sky - this is the end of the age of the dinosaurs. The Comet struck the Gulf of Mexico with the force of 10 billion Hiroshima bombs. And with the catastrophic climate changes that followed 65% of all life died out. It took millions of years for the earth to recover but when it did the giant dinosaurs were gone - never to return." - WWD

If Schleich didn't claim to be accurate, and didn't behave so abhorrently towards small businesses and so aggressively and intolerantly towards their competition, they would be ok.

Wait...

Nope, that's the entirety of Schleich needing to change.

Sadly that is simply a business model I'm afraid that many companies act in the exact same, unethical manner because profit is king.

I don't know if you are a parent but speaking as a father of five when you take your children to the toy shop and they choose something no amount of explaining that you could get a more scientifically accurate dinosaur toy off the Internet is going to change their mind about the one in front of them that they want now! 😀

True. I'm almost 16, but when I was younger I would've went for the safari one anyday- but the schleich  one is bigger, I think, so little ones would want it more. And to be honest, at early ages, visual interest is key if you want your kid to love dinosaurs.

It is the sad reality, Schleich must be recognized in the markets for that simple reason, despise because they are not profitable to those who are collectors and look at the commercial aspect more in the younger children. That does not mean that they could make dinosaurs to the height of precision of their figures of wild animals considering that those figures are as real as were their dinosaurs or their figures of Bayala whose figures dragons and fantastic animals very well sculpted far exceed To their dinosaurs taking into account that they are figures of fantasy.

But the market is what it commands and unfortunately, no matter how hard we try Schleich unfortunately will continue with his philosophy without being undisturbed. It may seem painful to the collectors but that company is the most widespread worldwide and the most selling figures worldwide. That's not to say I repeat that their dinosaurs except for honorable exceptions could be better finished and that they could be more realistic than they are today.

There have been many high points this year for dinosaur toy releases; I would not consider Schleich's offerings to be one of them.  Although I will admit, the Stego looks okay, but just okay.

This might sound stupid- but the schleichs may be more educational for smaller children. Their "special features" (claws, horns, feathers so on) are over-exaggerated, the shapes are very defined, the proportions are warped for an easier shape. They are more memorable and recognizable.

Ehhh....honestly? I feel like they're worth picking up. Schleich models are great when you own them, and start to really look at and understand the figure.

On a side note I really, really like how their Velociraptor has chicken feathers. It just works so well!

I came across the Utahraptor and the Brachiosaurus in a toy store yesterday. Ugh. How is it that their Brachiosaurus toys have steadily gotten worse over the years?

Yes, I've noticed that as well. As an owner of two beautiful Schleich Brachiosaurus, I am absolutely puzzled by Schleich's newfound direction. These Brachiosaurus are just painful to look at.

I've found this toy shop that specialises in Schleich and take a look at what they say about the Schleich dinosaurs (bottom of the page): http://www.schleich.org.uk/

"Loads to choose from – all equally ugly!"  :))

Seconded
The scales on the new Brachio give me goosebumps, but in a bad way. And yes the old brachiosaurus (I hope you meant the 2008 one) has is own beauty and majesty.

Well honestly and without hurting the feelings of the followers of the company Schleich regarding the dinosaurs seems realistic but I do not understand the attitude of the company they throw stones to their roof, saying what we know many members of the forum that Those dinosaurs are ugly.

The truth is that they have lowered the bar that they had with respect to their reproductions of the Humbold Museum of Berlin.

the huge grey Brachiosaurus and Apatosaurus are two of the most striking looking/majestic sauropod figures of the past ten years, whether they're considered accurate or not.

I second that opinion!

I ratified it and were much better than the new sauropod figures of the current Schleich that unfortunately put unreal colors and its texture is quite bad that more resistant to accidental blows.

But I liked more with all its inaccuracies the apatosaurus and brachiosaurus Schleich latest versions of the Humbolt Museum of Berlin with all its paleontological inaccuracies (especially with regard to the claws). But before the company Schleich made very good figures of sauropods, although I was always convinced other companies with all my respect.

If the Utahraptor didn't have that ridicolous feathering and was just full scaly Schleich could have simply marketed it as a new Velociraptor. People would have still ridiculed them, but at least it would have been an improvement over their current naked raptor figures.

The medium size raptor in the set of three is the best figure Schleich released this year, for me. It's still inaccurate because of the wing feathers and pronated wrists, but looks charming in some way.

Those figures Schleich is calling "Velociraptor" have rows of tiny feathers on their arms.  It's not realistic, but I think it's better for them to have feathers there than not at all.  Even though that Utahraptor's feathering isn't done well, I think it's much better than a featherless dromaeosaurid.

Schleich is calling that one Velociraptor.  So it makes a new featherless Velociraptor even more redundant.  It's (incorrectly) called a Deinonychus in the first post of this thread.  Perhaps Takama or a moderator can modify the first post to show the figure's name is actually Velociraptor.

Those ugly scales on the Brachiosaurus give me goosebumbs. :(

if that Brachiosaurus was just made with pachyderm-like wrinkles i'd consider getting it. those scales make me cringe.
