PREHISTORIC PLANET---Jon Favreau is the co-producer of this Apple+ streaming CGI docuseries set 66 million years ago about the last days of the dinosaurs.

I'm very excited for this documentary. Last time we got something like this was Planet Dinosaur. Hoping for a trailer soon

I told myself I wouldn't get too excited until I saw the trailer. Now that I have:

Oh my, I didn't know that David Attenborough was involved too. I don't want to be too premature here but I think this might be the next WWD.

With this and Forgotten Bloodlines in the works, will we finally see a revival in good prehistoric documentaries that places the primary focus on the lives of these ancient beasts themselves? None of those interrupting cutaway infographics (Planet Dinosaur), cringey & unnecessary anthropomorphisation (Dinosaur planet), or interviews with "experts" that are oftentimes butchered in the editing room to push a false narrative rather than present actual facts.

I stand by that we have never had something that even reaches the level of quality, dedication and craftsmanship as the Walking With... series.

I think the shot of the sun at the start might even be a reference to a similar shot in WWD's intro

This took my breath away.
Even if it turns out to be far from perfect, I'm sure I'll still be loudly applauding the designs and visuals.

It looks great so far! It's a shame that being on a streaming service, it probably won't get a proper release on TV or on DVD.

Is that Qianzhousaurus? And look how gorgeous that Tyrannosaurus is! And Sir David Attenborough narrating! AND Hans Zimmer providing the score! Exceeding my expectations, to say the least. I was hoping they wouldn't just stick to the Lancian fauna, and boy am I glad. Wonder if they'll do India and/or Madagascar. If they don't, it doesn't matter, this is what I've wanted for ages. It's gonna be a long wait till May.

OMG all these years of waiting have finally borne fruit. It's gorgeous and amazing. NHK has some American competition now.

Is this one there were talks about years ago needing funding? That trailer was stunning, and I'm so glad to see Sir David Attenborough narrating this one. And long overdue for some updated as accurate to modern science animals. Is that dromaeosaurid Velociraptor? Sure hope it is. Last decent depiction of it I can think of was probably Dinosaur Revolution's from a decade or more ago. Really hope this is like a modern reboot of WWD. Something like it is long overdue.

I'm also very much excited for the Forgotten Bloodlines one as well. Definitely could be a worthy successor to WWB, or hopefully. And they even got Nigel Marvin on board for that one too!

Interesting! The plesiosaur in the trailer looks like it could be Aristonectes. 8)

Whoah, I've seen the trailer and it looks awesome! Will AppleTV+ be the only platform from which it can be watched? To be honest, I don't know if I have access, probably not, so it's a bummer getting hyped for this when I probably won't be able to watch it.

I hope so. The last truly excellent prehistoric documentary for me is still the "Walking With" series. The WWD 3D movie was top notch design wise but since they turned the creatures into characters rather than natural beings, it ended up being too cringey.

On this matter, this series by Past Eons Productions is looking fine too:

This looks incredibly promising, the accurate and amazing models, the speculative bits like the display airsace on the sauropod, Sir David Attenborough narrating? I really hope this will finally be a documentary to carry on the spirit of WWD (and speaking of WWD, I see what they did with the beginning :D)

The CG is phenomenal, it's so well integrated into the live action scenery.

It's an Apple Original, so most likely yes. Apple funded it, they're not going to put it on competitor platforms. Honestly, they desperately need good original content. I bought a new iPad last year that came with a free one year AppleTV+ subscription. I have not watched one single thing on it, that's how bland and uninteresting their lineup is. With Prehistoric Planet I'll finally have a use for that free subscription. It's only 4.99 a month IIRC, so it's not expensive to subscribe for a month to watch this, and then cancel. You might also be able to get a free trial, I don't know if you need an Apple device for that.

EDIT: Here's the first teaser in HD quality:

It's wonderful to finally see dinosaurs depicted as animals in modern CG, and not as JW movie monsters! And the feathers!
