I have some good and bad news. Bad news is there is now at least one officially confirmed case within my city, so it gets even closer to me and my family (though granted with the fact people could be asymptomatic with this, which is what is so terrifying about this, who knows if there more out there).

The good news is that my dad was able to get paid sick leave for two weeks, and that's only because of the recent issues in his knees, and not because he's at serious risk of dying if he were to catch this because of his current health conditions. Unfortunately my mother (who also has health complications that puts her are at serious risk) still has to risk going out but she at least takes proper precautions so far.

School's in my state have also been closed indefinitely, if not non life sustaining stores as well (at least I expect that to follow suit), which should help continue to keep the spread of this down.

I'm still waiting for the day they put a moratorium on rent, and other bills, if they ever do (though I'm aware some have). Would help out so many folks massively right now.

avatar_Faelrin @Faelrin Take care of both you and your parents. My father is a person of risk and does not go outside. Prevention is better than regret, in my case in almost the whole day I am not with my father and I hug my father with a gesture I am afraid of infecting him and it is the only thing I have left in my life.

It's impossible to know that you aren't infected unless you've been (recently) tested, as many people are asymptomatic not necessarily just long into the phase where they can infect others but potentially throughout their entire time having the virus. Things like paper/surgical masks or scarves won't help prevent someone from catching the virus but they will help negate or at least heavily slow someones potential to spread it.

Yes. There's also the issue of mask-wearing procedure. By adjusting it, removing/replacing it to eat, talk or blow nose, wearing it more than once, wearing it incorrectly, the wearer could increase their changes of spreading/catching the virus. A false sense of security might also make mask-wearers more lax when it comes to washing hands, staying home, and other behaviours that are far more important to limiting the spread of viruses than wearing a mask.

Also, imagine the public reaction if authorities mandated or even just recommended the public to wear a mask. We saw how the general public reacted when they (erroneously) thought stocks of toilet paper were under threat. There have already been reports of people stealing hand sanitiser from hospitals in the UK. We don't want the general public panic-stockpiling PPE and potentially making it unavailable to those who absolutely need it to do their jobs.

I think this is why there is so much confusion about masks. Authorities realise that, in the case of the general public, there is a chance the cons could outweigh the pros.

By the way, the lump in my throat has cleared up now. Stay safe everyone. avatar_UK @UK, glad your son is doing better. :)

yeah see the info out there is very conflicting. Though I hadn't considered that gloves would help in not spreading the virus if I myself am infected, Im trying to maintain hygiene and social distance and stay home as much as I can but I still have to go out at least twice a week to buy food and supplies. I live in a  small apartment with my mom who's elderly and diabetic and Im her only caretaker but its hard b/c our place is so small and she often just forgets she cant stand close to me or hug me and its frustrating.  :(
I hope everyone here stays healthy and safe...

avatar_UK @UK, I'm very glad to hear that your son is recovering!

As for face masks, I think that public health officials in the US were reluctant to recommend them for use by ordinary people because there aren't enough of the high-grade ones to supply front-line workers. So they were more worried about healthcare facility shortages than about preventing community spread. That's understandable given the situation we have with the not-actually-in-short-supply paper products, but it has led to some misconceptions about the efficacy of masks. I'm wearing a homemade mask when I go out for supplies; it's not an N95 but it's better than nothing. I have to go out once a week or so, which is shorter than the incubation time, so I don't want to be an inadvertent vector. Lots of older folks in my neighborhood.

Thanks Tim. Driving back from the hospital tonight I saw the police patrolling the main road back into Poole from Bournemouth. They pulled over a car full of people and were obviously grilling them. Quite strange to see the, police stood 6 foot from the car giving them a lecture.

But disturbing too, don't want the police get used to these powers.

I barely post but here's an update.
- my school closed, classes are now online.
-Accidently ordered some PNSO figures FROM CHINA on ebay and they are coming in July. - Not the biggest worry of mine but it happened.
-One good thing that has come about is that I can have my dinos beside me in class which is kind of cool.
-I've also been using the time to work on myself and make more videos.

All in all, I think I'm settling into this well enough. I'm practicing social distancing and making sure only to go out once a day for exercise. I think I will be ok, this is all just new for me as it is for everyone. Best of luck to everyone here. :)

I think the biggest impact will be the announced new figure releases that we will not see this year.  My opinion is that is if your distributor did not have then in warehouse by end of February do not bet on seeing them by Christmas. Safari ltd always ships early so they will be the best bet. Reeves the CollectA distributor only has about 1/2 the new CollectA range is warehouse as they do not carry the full range.  Papo did not even have prototypes ready for New York toy fair but did for Nuremburg. They have a rep for distributing North America last.  The new Schleich management is anyone's guess. Mojo may have stocked their distributor up. No one else has enough of a presence to warehouse in North America.

If you don't mantain social distancing you will be like we were in Spain in 2 weeks. We just followed the same errors as Italians did and we have ended just like them or worse.

In my hospital the admisions in ICU have slowed down a little. We even have set two ICUs in the hospital rehabilitation gym. Most of my mates have come down with Covid, but I'm not. Every day one or two get ill and are isolated at home, but some of as are still healthy and will continue our hard work.  ;) I have even volunteered to work two days more in my off days this long weekend.

I love this picture, it sums up it all:

"TODAY, DEVIL WHISPERED IN MY EAR: YOU WON'T HAVE ENOUGH STRENGHT TO STAND ANOTHER MORE DAY"

"I SAID: TWO METERS FROM ME, YOU SON OF A BITCH"

hope everyone's being safe and well. practice extra precautions and follow your authorities' rules. believe it or not there are still fools out there who believe this is all just a conspiracy and/or people are overeacting. *smh*

So I found out only my parents (and maybe my sister, I'm not sure) will be getting the stimulus checks (in the US). Me and my brother cannot qualify for it for one reason or another (in my case it was because I claimed as a dependent on her tax return for both 2018 and 2019). It kind of sucks people like me are just being left out on this altogether (but from what I heard it also effects college students, high schoolers, etc). Even children under the age of 17 can be counted and their parents will get $500 per kids. I was hoping mine could help keep us caught up on the bills, but hopefully we can make do with what they get.

Also had a scare in the family when my brother's girlfriend's brother was suspected to have it but thankfully the test came back negative or else it could have been possible their mother who the brother lives with, had contacted it, and she goes over to my brother's house constantly, (and in turn ignoring the stay at home thing, much to my brother's dismay), and putting their family at risk, particularly my nieces, especially the 1 year old who has respiratory issues.

My mother also ordered home made masks for everyone in the household so, so once she gets those my dad will be able to have one for when he goes back to work (my mother has been using a mask given to her when she got checked out for strep throat), although unfortunately not soon enough as he goes back on Monday.

I have been planning to order the PNSO Chungkingosaurus through Amazon. However, PNSO is based in China, the origin, and, until recently, the epicenter of the Covid-19 virus. The figure, according to Amazon, will arrive around the beginning of June. Much can happen in two months, and the world is in an especially unstable place at the moment. Amazon is also prioritizing the transport of medical supplies, and I do not know how this will affect an order, as regulations and procedures are constantly changing. I also do not want my package to inhibit the storage or transport of ventilators or other medical equipment, which mean life and death at the moment. Are there any serious reasons as to why or why not I should order the figure, and, if I do order the figure, are there any precautions I should take due to transmission of Covid-19?

Thanks, MP

avatar_Avian @MammothProductions I am preordering Amazon prehistoric toy animal figures but my advice is not to do it is extremely risky. In my case I prefer to buy the prehistoric animal figures as soon as possible but due to the coronavirus I should not do it. My recommendation: is to wait until the epidemic ends or subsides, it is my advice, although as you can see I am not the ideal person to give it.

In any case, the package if you receive it after picking it, wash with hand gel both when taking the package and when leaving it in a corner of the room and do not open the package for three or four days so that the coronavirus is impregnated. that package disappear. But I repeat again do not do the same crazy things that I am doing, it is reckless. There is life after and even without the dinosaurs. Life is the most important thing.

avatar_Avian @MammothProductions , I'd say go ahead and place it on order.  It may take longer to be delivered, as everyone is prioritizing the logistics of essential products.  The only thing I would say to be concerned about, currently, is to be cautious about spending unnecessary money in the event you lose your source of income.  The economic fallout from Covid-19 is only beginning to be felt.
I wouldn't at all be concerned about ordering an item from China, and potentially contracting the virus from it.  If you were to contract the virus in that way, then a package from within the United States would be much more likely to be the culprit now.

Thank you for the insight on waiting, I feel the same urge to buy figures regardless of what's going on the world. With your recommendations on sanitizing, I have been doing the same thing with groceries. Life definitely is the most important thing, but the risk of infection is probably much less than the risk of going to buy groceries, as the US now has the most cases of Covid-19.

avatar_Martwad @Martwad
I am not counting on the predicted shipping dates either, as it will almost certainly be delayed. I am completely fine with that, as this means that life-saving medical equipment can be delivered faster. As to spending unnecessary money, I am 14, so my source of income is still only birthday cards :P. Both of my parents hold jobs that will not be affected by the economic fallout or coronavirus. I completely agree with the fact that ordering from the US is more risky, and I feel like ordering things from China now holds some undeserved taboo.

Thanks, MP

The contents of the package will not contain the virus, even if an infected person were to package it. It can only survive on a surface for a few days, and prolonged rapid change in temperature (such as being shipped in the cargo hold of a plane) will kill it much faster.

The concern is with local delivery, it's impossible to know for certain if a postal worker, be it in delivery or warehouse, has been infected. Wear gloves when retrieving and opening your package (winter gloves will do if you don't wear them for long), and set the box aside somewhere like a garage for a few days after you retrieve your item(s).

The inside of a package will not contain the virus unless it was delivered within 72 hours, and even then the odds are low.

I would recommend disinfecting items from Amazon even at the best of times, given the accounts of many employees that they are penalized for every extra second of a washroom break, and we all know what part gets cut short... :P

ordering new toys should be the least of our concern at the moment. if i were you, id hold on to whatever financial resources you still have (unless you are multi millionaires) and focus your spending on necessary things like food, supplies and medicine. resume your hobby when things normalized. just an opinion.
