I really like the pose of the Dimetrodon, looks like Strasser's to me.
I noticed that as well:

Exactly. Not a bad piece to copy from honestly. I've tempted by his 1/1 piece for some time. ;)

Papo did not disappoint. i hope there's one more for 2013.

I so hope there's an additionnal 1 or 2. But these 3 pieces look like some of the best Papo releases. The quality looks up to the usual standards. Must-haves!

brontodocus

The Papo Dimetrodon could also be inspired by the CGI Dimetrodon from the Dorling Kindersley book "Prehistoric Life":

At least the colour pattern on the sail reminded me of it. :)

Oh Lord, won't you buy me a T-rex by Krentz? My friends all have Sideshow, I must make amends.

Dyscrasia

The upcoming Papo Carnotaurus is no doubt a miniature version of the Sideshow Dinosauria statue...only if the forelimbs were in proportion....

Aram-Rex

I would say the most inaccurate thing about the Dimetrodon would be it's snout. It seems like it looks more crocodilian, or maybe it's because of the angle we're looking from I don't know. I say let's wait until more high quality images come out. You can't be so sure by looking at these pictures, they have pretty small resolutions.

I suggest Papo criteria for selection is driven "mostly" by popular name recognition and fiction movies, not WWD etc documentaries.  Jurassic Park, Disney's Dinosaur, Ice Age, Godzilla, King Kong etc.  The Dimetrodon reminds me of the one in Fantasia.  Not sure where Rhino would come from.  So maybe in the future a Sloth, Dilophosaurus, Iguanadon, Stygimolch or Gallimimus?   Non movie animals seem to be more Burien, Knight or Zallinger then from contemporary artists.
You can never have too many dinosaurs

From what I can see, the snout doesn't look bad. It has that "notch" in its upper jawline, something that Bullyland's Dimetro didn't have. I wonder how many toes it has?

QuoteThe introduction of obscure or semi-obscure* dinosaurs (e.g. Cerato, Giga, Amarga, Diplodocus, Elasmosaurus, Torosaurus, Iguanodon, etc.) will force Papo to a new level of creativity, severing their supposed dependence on pop-cultural representations.
Once they've milked as many dinosaurs as they can from pop culture, how do we know they won't stop making dinosaurs altogether?

There will always be someone's image or artwork to 'borrow' from.

Oh, man. I really like the looks of the new Dimetrodon, despite its innacuracies:o
If you could share what you find to be inaccurate, that would be very helpful :)

Roselaar

Excellent new Papo figures! Any word on their release dates?

CM

Does Papo have a bigger market share than the other big companies?  Do they just have more money to throw at things like paint apps and sculpt details, etc?  I'm curious if there's a traceable reason for why their products stand out as much as they do.  I'm not trying to belittle the other companies, but I do think there's a pretty pronounced difference in a lot of cases and I just wonder if it's down to method or "house style" or what.

I was thinking the same thing? The figure is not yet released so I doubt you have looked at it in person or held it or seen it from different angles. Im interested to know exactly what is so innacurate about the figure based on the one and only small pic of it.

Based on what I can see in the small photo, Papo's Dimetrodon looks surprisingly accurate.  It appears to be D. grandis based on the shape of the sail.  The only minor flaw I see is that the snout is more or less rectangular, when it should really be rounded on the top.  The angle of the photo could be to blame though.

Other than that, it looks very good, although I can't count the toes. ;)  If I had any other nitpicks they'd be that the fangs, especially those in the lower jaw, seem too long; and the overall look is very reptilian (lots of visible scales, thick tail), while Dimetrodon is actually a synapsid closer to mammals than crocs or dinos.

A Facebook page for a store called Dinoshop has the biggest pic of the Dimetrodon I've yet seen:

Just check their photos.  I'd link directly to the photo, but it seems more polite to do it this way. :)

Nice they have a better pic of the Carno as well.

It does look like the skull curves in this image :

Love em both^^ Wonder what the chances are of Papo making a Sarcosuchus. Im already excited by 2014 Papo prospects. Giga is #1 on my 'what I want from Papo' list, they just make such awesome therapods.

suspsy

To be honest, after two years of carnivores (and one very large herbivore), I'd like to see Papo move away from those guys in 2014. A Kentrosaurus or a Gastonia would be fantastic. A Therizinosaurus even more so.
