Ceratosaurus dentisulcatus (‘Savage’ by Rebor)

…n mind, it is safe to say that Rebor’s reputation is proportionately large compared to the company’s age and it is not without controversy. This C. dentisulcatus model contributes to that reputation in more than one way. This model, as with the other Rebor theropod models, is packaged in a box with foam padding and is accompanied by a brief information card about the animal and a polystone base for the model. The base for this model is very appeal…

Allosaurus (World of History by Schleich)

…ed upon by adding an articulated jaw to make it more play friendly, and to compete directly with the Papo release. This model is not very good. The head is too boxy and the wrists are pronated. The feet are too big and I think the legs could be a little thinner. If the legs were not made the way they are, the model likely could not stand on its own two feet, but that doesn’t excuse the boxy head. It resembles the head of the Allosaurus from the or…

Spinosaurus (1992) (Carnegie Collection by Safari Ltd.)

…rought as an adult. All through my undergraduate years, it stood beside my computer, obligingly holding spare pens and pencils in its commodious arms, and I can confirm after much time-wasting… err, practical experiment that it is still unequalled in this role among dinosaur toys today. While the Invicta models of the British museum justly deserve credit for being the very first accurate, museum-authenticated dinosaur toys, their monochromatic, un…

Spinosaurus (Papo)

…. It also stands well, but since the plastic is relatively soft, when it becomes warm the legs can bend and the whole thing can fall flat on it’s face, and due to the delicate paint job, paint wear is just around the corner. The joints are extremely visible and distract away from the detail. This is a very large figure– Fourteen inches long! He towers over most 1/40th scale dinosaurs. Overall, I give this guy an 8/10. I do think this figure is a li…

Neovenator (Deluxe by CollectA)

…g thing for a dinosaur collector. Although Neovenator is known only from incomplete fossil remains, CollectA has done a masterful job of basing this toy on the most up-to-date reconstructions. The head is similar to that of Allosaurus, but with a more parrot-like snout. The teeth are small but sharp, the arms are large and muscular, and the legs are built for speed. This is a predator that could chase down a victim, grip it firmly using the front…

Doedicurus (Prehistoric Life Collection by Safari Ltd)

…d in North and South America where it flourished during the Pleistocene, becoming extinct at the end of the Pleistocene Glaciation roughly 10,000 years ago. It is one of the more well known Pleistocene megafauna and it is possible that early paleoindians utilized the animal as a source of food, though no evidence for this has been found. It is always nice to see a new genus introduced in replica form. I think it’s great that Safari chose to give u…

Carcharodontosaurus (Deluxe Prehistoric Collection by CollectA)

…s this is the first “must have” for me, I’m not usually one to buy a model hot off the press. With only one other (and far inferior) Carcharodontosaurus model having been mass produced this is a welcoming addition to any theropod collection. It’s accurate and detailed, fully bipedal and in the 1:40 scale range…what more could you want? Available on Amazon.com here….

Miragaia (CollectA)

…osaurs. Good sculpting, decent colours, impressive armament, and, aside from the rostrum, accurate within reason. Overall, strongly recommended. Available from Amazon.com here….

Tanystropheus (Jurassic Park: Dinosaurs by Kenner)

…range of active poses, even ones that clearly defy reality. By contrast, the real Tanystropheus‘ neck was probably very stiff. Amusingly, when this toy was sold as part of the infamous 1998 Chaos Effect line, it was billed as the “Tanaconda,” the horrific result of combining Tanystropheus and anaconda DNA. Sounds pretty silly, but one could use that as an explanation for the toy’s super flexibility. The JP Tanystropheus has its issues, but it’s we…

Brachiosaurus (World of History by Schleich)

…d models, and the nostrils are placed up close to the eyes. The model does come to life with individually sculpted scales, but most of them appear to be too large and look like dried up dirt with cracks thanks to the dark brown coloration. There are smaller scales sculpted on the face of the model, but that’s as fine as the scales can get. The model is also adorned with wrinkles that give it a realistic look, and it is nice and solidly built. If y…

Apatosaurus (World of History by Schleich)

…If you want one, you can find it at most Wal-Mart stores, and anywhere that sells Schleich dinosaur toys. Available from Amazon.com here and Amazon.co.uk here….

Apatosaurus (Papo)

…urs Papo has released thus far. Children and adults alike should be very pleased with it indeed. Available from Amazon.com here. //…

Apatosaurus (2008, Replica-saurus by Schleich)

…lephant. Schleich Apatosaurus will always be a controversial figure. Either one loves it or one does not. There is no shrugging “I don´t care” or “Well, quite okay” about this one. I personally love it and recommend it to every sauropod freak out there who has enough space on his shelves and money left to adopt it. You can get it at any virtual or real toy store. Available from Amazon.com (here)…

Giganotosaurus (2019 repaint by Schleich)

…ith for 2019, so this figure does not come with a tag. One last thing I wish to touch on is the articulated jaw, which on my specimen is partially loose, and will fly open with a downward shake of the figure. Overall, this is an ugly and inaccurate figure that I cannot recommend to anyone who wishes to educate children about dinosaurs, nor people who collect dinosaurs for a hobby. The only people I can recommend this to is diehard Schleich fans. D…

Giganotosaurus (World of History by Schleich)

…ecies. In 2010, Schleich released their first version of Giganotosaurus to compete models with Safari and other companies. The large and expensive size of the model was possibly hurting sales, so in 2012 they released a shrunken version for the then-new World Of History line. An articulated jaw was added to make the figure competitive with Papo. This new version is not as big as the original, but it is still one of the larger models in the WoH col…

Sauropelta (Wild Safari by Safari Ltd)

…rms of appearance, accuracy, detail, and play value, the Wild Safari Sauropelta simply shines. This is one of the best ankylosaur toys I’ve ever come across. Get it if you can! Available from Amazon.com here….

Troodon (Walking with Dinosaurs the Movie 3D, by Vivid Toy Group Ltd)

…without the support of the arms (or tail), but as the arm feathers are long, this actually looks rather good. Overall, this is a nice medium-sized figure and a real step in the right direction when it comes to depicting dinosaurs popularly with realistic feathers. Available from Amazon.co.uk here for £10, and from Ebay.com here. Front of box. For photo of back of box see here…

Megalosaurus (Natural History Museum by Toyway)

…found in 1997. At least until a more complete skeleton arrives to use as a comparison. Then you had the almost complete skeletons of now popular dinosaurs being found during the bone wars in North America and in 1905 the rise of T-Rex. By that time, the Crystal Palace Dinosaus was basically forgotten; no new fossils of Megalosaurus had arrived. So as the 20th century got under way, it slowly faded from popular imagination and became an afterthough…

Stegosaurus (Scout Series ‘Melon’ by REBOR)

…easonable as it is suggested that the count may have in between 17 to 22. The only complain on the figure for me are the hands and feet that are too small for such a young animal. As other REBOR products, ‘Melon’ is made from PVC, so it may not only serve as a model but also as a toy (though a comparable expensive one for the size). It is a nicely sculpted and painted figure and I recommend it for anyone who likes Stegosaurus or wants to add somet…

Stegosaurus (Version 1)(Recur)

4.3 (23 votes) Review and photos by Takama, edited by Suspsy When it comes to dinosaur toy lines, Stegosaurus is almost always a necessity. So when Recur first created their line of soft toys for kids, they were sure to include the plated lizard. There are currently two different versions to choose from and today I will be reviewing the first one, made back in 2015. This Stegosaurus is sculpted in an interesting stance, with its hind legs plant…
