Cryolophosaurus (Papo)

…he ‘Dinosauria’ Ceratosaurus. However, in defense of what may be viewed as Geoworld levels of thievery, the color scheme is appropriate. While we don’t know the exact color of Cryolophosaurus, it did live in a forested environment so these colors do seem suitable for a large predator trying to sneak through the woods in search of a meal. The figure features the ever-necessary articulated jaw, which opens to reveal a highly detailed interior. The j…

Australovenator (Australian Age of Dinosaurs and Minizoo)

…’s Guide. As for toys, Australovenator has been reproduced by Collecta and Geoworld. This brings us to the highly anticipated model from the Australian Age Of Dinosaurs Museum. It is 1:24 scale, making it 21 cm long and 8 cm high. The figure depicts a lean predator and the view from the top presents a suitably skinny theropod. On the back is a row of scutes and the overall impression of the integument is very crocodile-like. The skull is narrow an…

Lambeosaurus (Bullyland)

…en growing in recent years, with offerings by CollectA (reviewed here) and Geoworld. However, I wouldn’t go quite as far at the Reddit community who regard this crested dinosaur as the very best dinosaur there ever was or will be! Anyhow, the first character of this figure that struck me was its large size – it is 25 cm long – bigger than I anticipated. Compared to the prices of the other smaller figures I saw in the shop it seemed good value for…

Guanlong (Wenno)

…esented by only a few toys. Safari Ltd gave it a half-hearted shot, as did Geoworld and Kaiyodo, but the definitive Guanlong is still lacking. Unfortunately, this Wenno Guanlong is not going to fill that void. Let’s start with the positives. It is obvious what this figure is meant to be. With its dashing back-swept head crest, Guanlong is one of the most recognisable theropods, and Wenno have captured this distinctive characteristic in this toy. T…

Albertosaurus (Jurassic World, Battle Damage by Mattel)

…both. There’s the Carnegie model by Safari Ltd., another by X-Plus, one by Geoworld, the Schleich Replica-saurus, and a monochrome figure from the ROM (Royal Ontario Museum). But not anymore. Leave it to Mattel and their Jurassic World line to finally shine some light on Ol’ neglected Albert before Safari, CollectA, or even Kaiyodo ever bothered to! The Mattel Albertosaurus is part of the Battle Damage line and measures about 14” long, and stands…

Saurornitholestes langstoni (Beasts of the Mesozoic: Raptor Series by Creative Beast Studio)

…s of the ‘lizard bird robber’ currently in existence, the third being from Geoworld (and clearly not comparable!). With the exception of its scaly muzzle, feet, and hands (uh-oh!), this animal’s body is covered in an elaborate coat of feathers. These range from spiky ones making up the tall crest on the head to very fine contour feathers on the body and to primary, secondary, and tertiary feathers on the wings. And the painstaking detail certainly…

Megaloceros (Papo)

…n France, but it still looks really good. Amongst it’s kind. Alongside the Geoworld (left) and Bullyland (right) models. To accuracy. With a modern company making this, you would expect this to be good, and it really is! It has everything you would expect, the antlers are correct and the proportions are correct. They even have the hump, as seen in cave art and implied by raised neural spines. Spot on! With other Ice Age mammals, Papo’s Woolly rhin…

Stegosaur (Lost Kingdoms Series B by Yowie)

…nly bright and eye catching, a mix of yellow and blue, enough to give some Geoworld models a run for their money. It has a simple pose, a pondering walk, which does well for it. There is a little wiggle up and down for the head and tail, but it isn’t going to change the pose much. As with all Yowie models, it’s pretty small, only being 2.4″ long and 1″ high, quite tiny, maybe good as a juvenile. Now to the tricky bit: accuracy. First, we must disc…

Zuniceratops (Beasts of the Mesozoic: Ceratopsian Series by Creative Beast Studio)

…dinosaur. Thankfully, after a not-terrible-but-not-great-either attempt by Geoworld, a far more impressive endeavor was released to the market in late 2020, courtesy of David Silva’s Beasts of the Mesozoic line. The Beasts of the Mesozoic action figure series has been something of a dream come true for collectors, as well as for David Silva himself. Silva is an experienced toy designer who has produced figures for the likes of Hasbro and NECA in t…

Erectopus (Animasaurus Collection)

…I have planned are all obscure genera that were only made by one company (Geoworld or CollectA) or no one at all. All of the models were commissioned by me, and sculpted by the forums very own Brandon DeMoss (who has his own line of models to collect as well). The first figures made for the Animasaurus Collection were experimental models which I commissioned to see how I liked them. These include a Lurdusaurus and an Einiosaurus sculpted at 1:50…

Cave Bear (Prehistoire by Starlux)

…ostly French and German manufacturers, with few other additions being  the Geoworld cave bear from Italy where cave bear remains have been found as well and the cave bear by the American company Play Visions. The first of these is the Starlux cave bear from 1968 as part of the Préhistoire line. The sculpts of Starlux’s extinct Cenozoic animals are holding up to this day and the cave bear is no exception. The forehead is properly pronounced as shou…

Mamenchisaurus (CollectA)

…years this renewed interest have given us new figures from Kaiyodo, PNSO, Geoworld, RECUR, Mojo, and the subject of today’s review CollectA, all releasing figures of this impressive animal. Looking at these new incarnation, one big difference between them and their earlier predecessors is how the neck is oriented. CollectA’s figure is part of their impressive 2021 lineup that once again took us back to Asia. With some of the other Mamenchisaurus…

Cave Bear (Papo)

…der Now’ button to add those to my collection. Releases from Playmobil and Geoworld are the only two reviewed on this blog that I can see so far. More knowledgeable collectors may be able to expand that list even further, but I’m not sure how easy any of these would be to find now. For those collectors not averse to having a few furry ancients sharing the shelves with their dinosaurs, this one would be a worthy addition. Not just in terms of its q…

Therizinosaurus (Salvat)

…s or attention. When it’s mentioned here, usually this is in referenced to Geoworld, and they are certainly guilty of this. However, they aren’t the only ones though. Salvat editores are a Spanish magazine company, producing on a range of subjects, which included dinosaurs at one point. They produced 42 models, all of them plagiarised. Here we see one example, Therizinosaurus, a strange theropod from the Late Cretaceous of Mongolia. This figure is…

Ouranosaurus (Recur)

…s is my second favorite version after the Battat.CollectA, Schleich, PNSO, GeoWorld are just some of the other brands out there that has produced an Ouranosaurus figure to varying success within the last few years. The active casual pose of the figure is a nice departure from the more neutral ones seen on many hadrosaurs. Its dynamic pose sets it apart from the more typical conservative poses seen in other figures. This is my first, along with the…

Giant Moa (Signatu Studio)

…I have been a member of the Dinotoyblog: Wooly Rhino (Papo), Megaloceros (Geoworld), Macrauchenia (Safari Ltd.), Pliosaur (Bristol Culture) and today’s offering (left to right) Most will have heard of the Giant Moa, an enormous flightless bird that filled the niche of large herbivorous browsers, unique to the islands of New Zealand. With slow breeding rates and a long period of growth, all were wiped out around 600 years ago when humans came to p…

Rebbachisaurus (CollectA)

…in handy if you need shelf space, but not for those who like to have their figures in a compatible scale. Rebbachisaurus toys are rarely made, I know GeoWorld made one as well, but it is a harder species to find as a toy.    …

Palorchestes (Play Visions large and mini figure)

…give these unique faunas some attention, brand such as Southland Replica, Geoworld have released some Australian mega fauna within the last few years.Hopefully the trend continues and we start to see more in future releases from companies such as CollectA and Safari. On the belly, the stepped names says Tapir! The figure’s released of 1997 is also tamped as well. The Palorchestes figure is perhaps the rarest and hardest to find out of the four la…
