Magnetic Jurassic Sea Creatures (Geoworld)

…my refrigerator for the last few months. Overall, this set is my favorite Geoworld product. When an online acquaintance happened across these in a gift shop in Florida, I thought it might be something new and exciting from Geoworld. But it seems to be from long before the “Jurassic Hunters” line, so now it just makes me wistful for a bygone era I didn’t even know existed. I haven’t found any evidence that there were other magnet sets from Geoworl…

Troodon (Jurassic Hunters by Geoworld)

…s 5.5” tall and about 5” in length. With all that said, we can hardly give Geoworld credit for this model and any positive attributes it may have. The Geoworld Troodon is an exact copy of Gabriel Lio’s depiction of Troodon. Since other artists have come out and said that they were never contacted by Geoworld for use of their depictions we can only assume the same is true here. Gabriel’s Troodon is a popular depiction, showing up second on a Google…

Albertosaurus (Jurassic Hunters by Geoworld)

…at some other companies are afraid to do. Look closely and you’ll see that Geoworld put feathers on their Albertosaurus! For this reason I think that Geoworld are really trying to make good models by applying some research to them, and they are attempting to keep up with the changing times (the feathers on this model could be the result of the discovery of Yutyrannus the year before this figure was released). Sadly, even though this model has feat…

Utahraptor (Jurassic Hunters by Geoworld)

…erns are brown with black outlines. The feet are a bright blue which contrasts to the duller, more subtle colours on the rest of the body. The teeth are white (as usual), the claws are black (also as usual), and the tongue is pink. Overall, I would say this is one of Geoworld’s more decent efforts were it not for the pose. If you can get over it (or find a diorama that requires a singing dromaeosaur), then go ahead and buy one from your preferred…

Tyrant King Skeleton/’T-Rex Skeleton’ (Geoworld/B.C.Bones)

…when it comes to their many fossil and skeleton replicas, we can see that Geoworld has potential. The ‘Tyrant King Skeleton’ is just one of many skeletal models that Geoworld has to offer, and it can be purchased in two different forms. The first is an assembly kit (also distributed by B.C.Bones in different packaging under the name ‘T-Rex skeleton dinosaur assembly set’), and the second is a pre-assembled model. The assembly kit might sound like…

Parasaurolophus (Jurassic Hunters by Geoworld)

…ld. How did it come out? Let’s see……. First, we look at the fact card. All Geoworld models come with one, and are a major gripe, as they are often a source of plagiarism (the other being the figure itself, but we’ll get there). This was made after Geoworld was bought out and saved from liquidation, so the fact card shows a picture based off the colouration of the model, if subdued, looking quite good. To the figure! The black, blue and orange is a…

Cryolophosaurus (Jurassic Hunters by Geoworld)

…ir first expedition, the subject of this review. As with all my reviews of Geoworld, I will start with the fact card, as this often sees the worst of Geoworld’s largest problem: plagiarism. While I can’t find any art that precisely matches, the older style to the piece does make me suspicious. Onto the figure itself! This figure boasts a 1:30 scale, resulting in a length of 7.2” and a height of 4.5” (5” with the rock). The paint is patchy purple o…

Compsognathus (Jurassic Hunters by Geoworld)

…mentality that some companies love to pander to, and I’m sorry to say that Geoworld is one of them, despite their insistence on claiming that their products are museum quality. The Geoworld Compsognathus would be a great little figure were it not for one thing. It was released in 2013 when remains of its feathery cousins had been known for quite a while. Looking over my Geoworld collection, it seems the company only puts feathers on the dinosaurs…

Protoceratops (Geoworld)

…create an accurate model from even a small amount of research. Evidently, Geoworld disagreed. Geoworld is infamous for claims of scientific accuracy that are quickly proven wrong, and massive amounts of plagiarism. The First Expedition, as it’s known, is a good example of these problems. The first culprit is the fact card provided with each figure. While it does have useful information that children will appreciate and learn from, the picture of…

Coelophysis (Jurassic Hunters by Geoworld)

…hread dedicated to this issue. We are going to discuss the model here. The Geoworld Coelophysis is arguably the best model one can buy of the species on the current market. That’s saying something, since most of our readers agree that most of Geoworld’s other dinosaurs are almost Chinasaur quality. The model is in a horizontal pose and is glued to a base. The proportions are undeniably perfect for this species, although I think the tail could use…

Velociraptor (Jurassic Hunters by Geoworld)

…irst time one of their products will be reviewed on the Dinosaur Toy Blog! Geoworld, for those who don’t already know, is an Italian company started by (self-proclaimed ?)* paleontologist Dr. Stefano Piccini (AKA Dr Steve hunters) with the mission of getting kids excited about the world of geology and paleontology via authentic paleontologist products. . Their most extensive Geoworld line is called Jurassic Hunters and features a wide variety of p…

Plateosaurus (Jurassic Hunters by Geoworld)

…elociraptor, and obscure prehistoric genera such as the cave bear. Since Geoworld is a hit-or-miss company with a bad reputation, you might be wondering how bad this Plateosaurus model is. Well, for starters, my model cannot stand up no matter how many times I try to fix his legs with a hair dryer (hence the small piece of pipe cleaner in the pictures). Geoworld is known for giving most of their bipedal models a base, because they know that they…

Stygimoloch skeleton (Dino Excavation Kit by Geoworld)

…tygimoloch written in English and a few other languages. I have heard that Geoworld has a slight tendency to plagiarise artwork from other sources, although I do not know where this particular illustration came from. The box opens up, book-style, to reveal a cellophane sheet showing the matrix, hammer and chisel, and instructions about how to assemble the model. (I deliberately blurred the children’s faces out of respect.) The box claims there are…

Zuniceratops (Jurassic Hunters by Geoworld)

…ow the ceratopsians evolved from their early beginnings. Let’s see the how Geoworld did. Let’s look at the figure. It has another of the odd Geoworld scale, this time 1:20. I still wish at least some figures had the same scale. It measures 6.4″ long, 3.7″ high and 2.7″ wide. The pose is a steady walk with it’s mouth open, perhaps eating, perhaps bellowing at a rival. The colours are actually more subdued, a mix of darker reds, browns and black, mu…

Euoplocephalus (Jurassic Hunters by Geoworld)

…up looking like a Euoplocephalus anyway. The Jurassic Hunters toy made by Geoworld is definitely one of the worst versions of the species ever made, but when one looks at the toy, it is easy to see that they were trying to replicate a Euoplocephalus and not some other type of ankylosaur, as the spike patterns match up with the known fossils at the time of the toy’s release. However, anyone who’s well-versed in dinosaurs can tell where the problem…

Spinosaurus (Jurassic Hunters by Geoworld)

…age. Unfortunately, rather than take after the fossils known at the time, Geoworld opted to rip off the one from Jurassic Park 3 instead, giving us a highly inaccurate version of the animal. To start things off, I wish to talk about the head. To put it bluntly, it is way too robust. We all know what the skull of Spinosaurus looks like by now, but Geoworld opted to ignore it in favour of making their model look more like the one that appeared in…

Embolotherium (Jurassic Hunters by Geoworld)

…a bit wide, but not bad overall. The hump is likely based on related species, which do feature raised neural spines, though this seems overexaggerated. The rest of the figure is accurate to most brontotheres, with short tails and stocky legs. It is surprisingly accurate for a Geoworld figure. Despite being in a line full of extinct versions of modern animals or ancient mammals that have been released over and over, Embolotherium sticks out as a g…

Macrauchenia (Jurassic Hunters by Geoworld)

…to talk about the featured fact card, as this brings up many problems with Geoworld. As with all the mammals, however, it is just an airbrushed version of the animal, no plagiarism here. Let’s move on. To the figure proper! It has a scale of 1:20, reasonably large at 5.2″ long and 5.4″ high. The pose is nice, as if it’s browsing from a tree, pretty calm for a herbivore. The colouring is is pretty similar to most the rest of the Macrauchenia figure…

Rebbachisaurus (Jurassic Hunters by Geoworld)

…and 3.6″ high, so not terrible with other lines. Now to another bedbug of Geoworld, accuracy. Here it isn’t too terrible, featuring the spines of the fossil and the long neck and tail associated with diplodocids. However, the head is based off an invalid species which was a chimaera with Nigersaurus, so jury is out on that. The nails are wrong too, should be more elephantine. Bit of a mix here. Overall, this is a very middle-of-the-road model. It…

Hipparion (Jurassic Hunters by Geoworld)

…e. Such a success deserves to be immortalized in plastic. Question is, did Geoworld do a good job of it? Let’s see….. As with any Geoworld review, I will start on the fact card. As with the other mammals, this features an airbrushed version of the figure. No plagiarism. Moving on. Now to the figure! The colour scheme is interesting, mixing zebra stripes with yellows and browns. Unfortunately, this does highlight the chinasaur nature of the plastic…
