Quote from: Primeval12 on May 18, 2022, 02:05:06 AMIs there any other way to tell?

Not to my knowledge no, unfortunately. That's why I don't usually buy these things off the shelves (unless I'm absolutely sure of it's contents), but rather go to second hand markets instead for any specific figure I want. Blind bags/eggs are a scam.

Quote from: Blade-of-the-Moon on May 18, 2022, 03:10:30 PMThe sculpt on the trike is nice, certainly more film accurate, but the paint apps..woof. Much different than shown on the video even..the beak, horns, ect..all a flat color that glares out at you. Good news is..it can be repainted.

I would assume the reason for the flat colours is due to Mattel's unflattering rendering, rather than the actual physical product looking like this. As seen in the in-box image, the Triceratops colour scheme looks to be accurate to its movie appearance.

However, as nice as the figure looks, I do wonder why Mattel chose to omit jaw articulation on this figure... Especially when they already gave Gallimimus and Parasaurolophus jaw articulation, two species that arguably benefit less from it than the Triceratops.

Now it'll be impossible to recreate the sick Triceratops scene accurately, as Sattler cannot inspect the mouth of the creature. Mattel should've learnt from Nanmu and gave the triceratops a slightly open mouth if they didn't want to commit to jaw articulation.

Total shame it doesn't have jaw articulation. The seam on the mouth was making me hope it had it. Big missed opportunity there, since they went through all the trouble to make sure it can lay down like it did in the film, but forgot it also had its mouth open. That clearly explains why it didn't do it in the video when they showed the figure laying down. And I also agree with avatar_Flaffy @Flaffy that of any of the herbivores that should have had mouth articulation first and foremost, it should have been the Triceratops.

Also if you folks haven't watched the Beyond the Gates video there. Please do. It looks so much better then these renderings.

Edit: The orange eye is also accurate to the animatronic, although I agree it could have been less vibrant. You get a good look at it in SWS first making of video. I think the only thing I also would have liked to see is the yellow markings it had, but it probably would have been too much for the paint budget these have. Again at least they paid attention to the patterns it had and tried to give it that look.

Triceratops looks tiny. Super disappointed.

Still need to see a comparison with a mainline toy, but damn...Im not asking for a triceratops as big as the Pentaceratops, jus one that at least a bit larger than the Sinoceratops...

Pliosaurking

The trike looks great!
Shame about the size however

Flaffy

At what point did Mattel look at the HC Trike's size and thought "Yeah that's big enough."

Strepsodus

My local Walmart got a new shipment of Mattel.

As much as I want the Skorpiovenator, my collection is based on accuracy.

Maybe the Dsungaripterus is more accurate?

terrorchicken

the HC trike looks pretty good! does anyone know what date the HC Rex is supposed to the come out? the preorders are already sold out at Target.

I hope we get a Fallen Kingdom carnotaurus before the line gets cancelled. Does anyone know why they changed the color of the carno for the new film? I really liked FK's reddish color.

Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

They didn't change it. This variation of Carnotaurus was already seen at the end of Fallen Kingdom. They are just using this variation instead of the original.

Pachyrhinosaurus

Once again, the triceratops looks great! I especially like that they made sure to include the more subtle gray markings. As others have said, it is a little small, though. I would imagine that this would be in order to fit it in a specific size box. I would have liked for it to scale better with the tyrannosaurus.

Maybe it's the lighting? The one in box pic there looks more detailed than he out of box pics?

avatar_Blade-of-the-Moon @Blade-of-the-Moon You should take a look at the Beyond the Gates video (which I linked above in my earlier post from yesterday). It looks so much better there (even if the lighting is rather dark), aside from the in box pic, and definitely not as flat as those promo images comes across.

S @Strepsodus If I had to guess some of the proportions are a little exaggerated/off (including the wings). Otherwise the skull looks pretty good for the most part, and it even has pycnofibers sculpted on it, and the pteroid bone is present on the wings too. Honestly it's one of Mattel's better pterosaurs aside from the 2 Quetzalcoatlus so far. Then again out of the 6 currently out there, that's not much competition. Aside from the Quetzalcoatlus, the Dimorphodon and Pteranodon sculpts are based off their film designs (JW and JPIII respectively), the Tapejara is a direct copy of the ones in ARK: Survival Evolved (and also explains the lack of pycnofibers, teeth, and coloration), and the Rhamphorhynchus suffers from exaggerated/simplified anatomy (mostly the head), and lacks pycnofibers.

Worth noting there's also a Geosternbergia apparently on the way in the Legacy Collection assortment, probably later in the year. Time will tell how that pans out. It might be the most appropriate time to give us something based on the unused design from TLW though (which the maquette had pycnofibers even).

And similarly on the subject there was also a maquette head of the other species, which also had pycnofibers, which also unfortunately was not used, as the CGI one at the end of the film was definitely naked, a different coloration which was more reflective of the above "Geosternbergia", etc.

You might be thinking of something else because the ARK Tapejara doesn't have teeth and its bill is straight. If anything the ARK Tapejara almost looks like it was based on Hasbro's JP3 Tapejara figure.

The colour is eerily similar to the example render (animals in ARK vary in colour) used by the Dododex fansite, but the sculpt bears little similarity and it's likely only the colours were influenced from this one.

oh...I never noticed that guy. I admit Ive only had the chance to watch FK once, I do plan to give it another rewatch before I go see Dominion.

avatar_stargatedalek @stargatedalek Ah it didn't? I must have misremembered then, sorry. Been a while since I got any good looks at them in game, despite playing it recently. And yeah you are right the colors are random in game, but I think I did run into some a while back that looked like that color wise back when I played the Center map extensively in 2020.

Anyways surprised no one shared this new shirtless Malcolm set yet, going up for sale on Mattel Creations in a few days. Not sure if this is the SDCC exclusive or what. Feels a bit early for that still I think. I do like the backdrop it comes with.

I would have preferred Gennero on the toilet...or Claire at the podium/Indominus Rex enclosure..literally a score of things other than Malcolm..shirt open..again.

New pics of the Maisie set and the Malcolm set got revealed. Shame the Malcolm set doesn't have the juvenile Baryonyx it seemed to have been listed as earlier. It comes with a Velociraptor instead (which don't get me wrong I like the paint app/colors it has), and some locust accessories. Hope it wasn't a fluke and it shows up still somewhere.

Also wondering if these are actually Wave 2 instead of the Grant and Kayla sets?

Edit: The links below suggest a November estimate date. Hmm. Wonder why we still don't have pics of the Kayla and Grant sets yet if these are still Wave 3 and those are Wave 2. A bit strange to me when the other Wave 2 stuff has been revealed already.

Im still a bit mad about what happened with the Ray Arnold set (Why do you allow people to buy outside USA when you don't ship outside USA? And to top it, I have to call to your customer service to get my money back when you should have cancelled my order in the first place... ) So I´m glad this years exclusive is something I can totally pass on. It´s a meme of a product, basically.

No juvenile Baryonyx with Malcolm then? Definelty going for the Maisie pack to get a Beta instad of Owen. Also perhaps I am panicking too early, Dominion toys are already appearing in physical stores in my country, but neither physical or online seem to stock the human packs...
