Quote from: Dusty Wren on December 23, 2022, 09:03:33 PMMiguel told me to use Loctite (cyanoscrilate superglue). Never used the stuff before, nor do I have experience with gluing stuff myself.

I thought about inserting a metal wire too, but yeah like you said resin is far more brittle. Not sure if it's even possible to drill a wire into something that delicate. But as I plan to send these two figures off to be repaired & restored by an artist, I'll probably get them to help me with making a final call on the best course of action. :-[

That's really unfortunate, you shouldn't have to repair a model you spent a fair amount of money for. You should ask for a partial refund due to completely inadequate packing on the seller's part. Or get a complete replacement. That figure should have been securely covered in bubble wrap and foam peanuts with no chance of it jostling in transport. I know you mentioned the sellers disuse of peanuts but I'm sure there is a way to incorporate them to better secure the item, he just needs to figure it out. This is especially important due to the weak connection points of the antlers which the seller should have pinned in the first place.

Quote from: Dusty Wren on December 28, 2022, 05:08:58 PMI noticed that Miguel has added a note to both the Megaloceros and the Eucladoceros on his website that says the figures are now shipped with the antlers detached. That's safer, but I'm still not sure the base of the antlers will provide enough of a surface area for gluing alone to be enough. It really seems like they need to be pinned and glued.

I'm still debating this purchase. I don't have a lot of experience drilling into resin, so pinning it myself will be an adventure. Not sure I'm up for experimenting with an $100+ model.

What the sculptor should do is pre-drill holes and provide a metal pin for the customer to easily glue at home if he is going to sell the model with antlers detached. Try asking for him to do this so you don't run the risk of damaging the model yourself. I purchased a model from Paleocraft (Sean Cooper) and he did that for me no problem or extra charges.

Is this bootleg stuff already or does Signatu Studio actually get paid when you would order this item there?

Quote from: FPP on November 20, 2022, 01:27:20 AMPassion Charger (on Facebook) has Sinomegaceros pachyosteus (Megaloceros pachyosteus) available in 1:35 and 1:18 as resin kits.

Well aware. It's a fantastic sculpt, and I'd love to complete the "big 3" prehistoric deer; but like many other Passion Charger figures it commands a hefty price, especially if you choose the painted option. Would much rather spend that money on two or more of Miguel's figures tbh.

1:35
unpainted - $119.99
painted - $174.99

1:18
unpainted - $189.99
painted - $319.99

So this figure is not made by Signatu Studio?
Then why does someone feel to need to advertise it in this thread?
This way it looks like this piece is sold by Signatu Studio to anyone that is going through this thread. ::) Like me.

F @FPP brought up the Passion Charger Sinomegaceros and I felt that it was relevant to the conversation to post it. Wanted to compare prices too as I find Miguel's prices very reasonable for the high quality sculpt and finish of his models despite being hand-sculpted + hand-painted.

I can see how it can be confusing to those who see it at a glance, but the maker "Passion Charger" has been mentioned multiple times in the thread.

bmathison1972

Thanks for the explanation; Flaffy! Yes, that is where I got confused :)

Yes I apologise for the confusion :-[

Thank you avatar_Fenestra @Fenestra B @bmathison1972 both for helping keep an eye out for bootlegers! Definitely don't want Miguel's hard work to be parasitised by bottom feeding scum who steal other's work for their own selfish gains.

Just caught up with this thread.  Oh, that's heart breaking avatar_Flaffy @Flaffy.  I've very occasionally been horrified to hear a rattle within a box....  You asked if Martin is still active and if he repairs.  Yes, still active.  He has repaired a badly broken Triceratops for me in the past, so successfully you wouldn't know anything had been wrong, and I'm sure I remember he repaired something badly broken for postsaurischian once too.  He and Marilyn are also extremely good at packing resins.  So if you don't feel you want to try yourself, it's an option.

Thanks for the information! Will be contacting Marylin shortly to see if Martin's up for it.

Do you know if Martin drilled additional support structures into the resin when repairing your Triceratops? e.g. metal wires/pins like avatar_Dusty Wren @Dusty Wren and avatar_croco_105 @croco_105 mentioned.

ceratopsian

No, I have no idea.  I just left him to get on with it!  I know what he has sometimes drilled a leg of a new resin he's been building and painting for me when he has felt that it might be insufficient to take the weight over time - but they were relatively large compared to your antler, I think.

dinocat

I think that packing this sculpture with antlers attached would be very difficult. Unattached would be better. I was willing to fix it if it came to me broken.

Flaffy

Well well well, look who we have here! Sinomegaceros in the works. Cautiously optimistic about this one.

Dusty Wren

I've been checking his Instagram semi-frequently for updates on this one. Can't wait to see how it turns out!

Sinomegaceros pachiosteus 1:20 scale

"After a long time with material supply problems to complete the figure, I have finally been able to make the first painted copy. To make the coat different from the other species of deer I made and to make it less monotonous, I have looked at current species with a spotted coat such as the cervus nippon, dama dama or rusa alfredi." - Miguel

Flaffy

Love the choice of colours and patterns on this one. Very distinct from the other two giant cervids. The pose and antlers just makes this such a majestic model too. Might get this at some point, we'll see.

Some long overdue "after" pics: Megaloceros and Eucladoceros

Glad to have had these fixed as they are truly beautiful models. Two very handsome bucks that are unrivaled in the PVC market. However, I am increasingly aware of the limited space in my current living situation, and may very well let these go to someone who has the space to properly display and appreciate them more than me. (at a lower rate than MSRP of course)

Dusty Wren

Ahhh, avatar_Flaffy @Flaffy, I'm so glad you got them fixed! The condition they arrived in was heartbreaking, but it's good to see them on their feet with a full compliment of antlers.
Check out my customs thread!

Halichoeres

Those look incredible. You shouldn't have had to get them repaired, but I'm glad the repair went well.

Inherited avatar_Flaffy @Flaffy 's Megaloceros, and it looks stunning! It's massive too, here it is compared to Eofauna's 1:35 Deinotherium:
