Quote from: Sim on February 04, 2025, 07:11:00 PMSo the leaks were wrong about the Spinosaurus having a sail with a dip in the middle.  And also about the colouration of the Spinosaurus and Mosasaurus.  It looks like they were made-up after all,

I figured it might be a similar situation to Dominion (I.e. IIRC, the artist made their best guess based on what they heard/read about the new designs without actually seeing them). In any case, I'm very curious about 1) what the Spino actually looks like (the 1st look is too blurry for me), & 2) what exactly is going on in that scene (specifically, btwn the Spino & the Mosa). On a related note, the Spino sail nearest the Mosa reminds me of Planet Dinosaur:

Quote from: Faelrin on February 04, 2025, 07:44:08 PMDidn't notice this earlier, but does it look like this new T. rex design has lips now (in the released screenshot or below), or are these the partial lips they've always had?

I'm wondering the same thing. The lips DO look more prominent, but that might just be the lighting :-\

Quote from: Sim on February 04, 2025, 11:39:54 PMThat's what the Deinonychus in the video below have (a modified version of Coolio's video),

Why not just link to CoolioArt's video itself ( https://dinotoyblog.com/forum/index.php?topic=11764.msg386888#msg386888 )? No offense meant to | S4UR0 |, but the new sounds don't really match the visuals.

Quote from: MLMjp on February 04, 2025, 10:18:13 PMIt always has been an adult. Dilophosaurus is canonically small in the films. Whatever some promotional material and non-canon videgames told you about a larger "adult" Dilophosaurus mean nothing.

Quote from: Blade-of-the-Moon on February 05, 2025, 02:29:01 AMThere is a scene in the trailer from TLW , where a monitor shows the true real life size of Dilophosaurus as the adult size.

avatar_Blade-of-the-Moon @Blade-of-the-Moon is right, avatar_MLMjp @MLMjp . This image is in said scene:

Some thoughts under the cut
Spoiler
Not a fan of the short neck on the Spino, the head also feels weirdly boxy, this is the JW Baryonyx all over again...sigh. Love the sails still and the idea of them cooperating with the Mosa (which looks pretty damn good?) is cool at least.
The sail on the Titanosaurus is not that bad but I'm not really a fan, well I guess it could be a reference to that kaiju, who knows?
Waiting for more clear shots of the other guys...overall this looks like a fun adventure flick but...did we need to add in another hybrid/mutant?  ::)

Well, that trailer's pretty much exactly what we expected.

Cloverfield's monster, Primeval's future predator, A Quiet Place's aliens, Stranger Things' Demogorgon, and now this thing. I would love to see people take a stab at a monster that goes in a completely different direction, as opposed to skinny-leathery-vaguely-humanoid-thing-that-walks-on-knuckles.

I would have preferred something slower and more horror, but I knew not to expect that.
The trailer was pretty much what I expected, honestly. I don't love it, don't hate it so far. Although I will say that with all the redesigns and now having drastically different variants of a bunch of species in the franchise, these "dinosaurs" feel more like genetic experiments and mutants than ever. Which I suppose makes sense.

Just to clarify, I wrote my previous post before watching the trailer.

I might like the Spino's look more if it wasn't meant to be Spino. While not expecting the most paleo accurate Spino, I was hoping for something similarly elegant & graceful (E.g. See the 1st video). As for "what exactly is going on in that scene", I hope we get further elaboration. I'm not against different JP/JW species cooperating (E.g. See the 2nd & 3rd video), but Spino+Mosa seems random. I mean, it's not like they originally lived in the same time & place, let alone co-evolved. Also, what does the Mosa need the Spino for? What can the Spino do that the Mosa can't do better?:

Mutant confirmed

Movie is already ruined.

Fantastic...

And people complained about the hybrids...

The franchise has lost its way. Imagine what a flop Jurassic Park would have been if it had included humanoid monsters like this. Jurassic Park is awesome and popular because it's about dinosaurs, it's really rather simple.

*Sighs*

I don't and have never been bothered by the inaccuracies present in these actual prehistoric fauna, especially given the fact that the original wasn't up to par in terms of accuracy either.

My issue has always been with these hybrids. I thought we were finally straying away from this concept and BOOM it's back... Now I'm skeptical again, was really excited then my disappointment arrived.

For the record, I love the first Jurassic World despite its flaws, and I like the Indominus, but I couldn't help to make this:

When Jurassic World announced that there would be a hybrid dinosaur I was really disappointed. But I honestly thought the movie handled the Indominus well and that the design was grounded enough as to not be off-putting. At least it looked like a dinosaur. This mutant though, this doesn't look like a dinosaur. It looks like a kaiju and although I like kaiju I don't want them in my dinosaur movie.

I don't know about this one. I really don't like the plot and I didn't like it even before seeing the trailer. Going back to an island, needing to collect DNA for some medical MacGuffin that also HAS to come from the largest dinosaurs for some reason, and bizarre animal behaviors like cooperative hunting between Spinosaurus and Mosasaurus. It all makes me cringe, these are the type of stories I made up in my head as a kid. It comes across as lazy fanfic. The Jurassic World movies were goofy and bombastic but I tried to lean into it and accept it, with mixed results. I had higher hopes for this and I feel like I've been let down. Still going to give it the benefit of the doubt due to a talented cast and crew. I'm sure it will have some fantastic set pieces too. Overall though, I feel that what little excitement I had has been drained.

You can say it louder, but not clearer!

Anyway, I dont understand the desing phylosphy in this film.

You changed the Spinosaurus and Mosaurus desings to a more "updated" look, ok. But then you change the more "realistic" Quetzacoaltus Dominion desing for a less "realistic" one? Da hell?!

I will give you a pass with the I should've been called Argentinosaurus "Titanosaurus" even though I'm not a fan of the sails because at least it's a new creature.

Well that trailer was... interesting to say the least. This Spino could never come close to topping the JP3 Spino, but it still looks nice. The titanosaur is beautiful, as is the quetz. The mutant thing is giving HUGE 65 vibes, and it looks so... out of place. Primeval called, they want their future predator back.

Ooof... hate to say I was pessimistic from the get-go, but thisnis exactly what I expected. Better than the jurassic worlds, worse than the original trilogy. Why on earth would the medical breakthrough come from the three "largest dinosaurs" (I'll bet anyone my life savngs they aren't hitting 3 different types of sauropod, lol). Why is the dialog so dang goofy and joke-filled. Why are spinosaurus and Mosasaurus working together... bleh. At least the actual cgi and animal design looks slightly better than what we've been getting from the Jurassic Worlds. Don't even get me started on the gorilla-rex. When will the movie execs realize to make a moie scarier, you get better actors with better dialog, and make the dinosaurs act like actual animals, not cheap slashers.

Giganotosaurus

So is the Dilophosaurus any bigger this time around? I can't tell.
Mosasurus on Jurassic Mainframe and JPToys
Angurius on TohoKingdom

I love all the Jurassic movies, plus Disney's Dinosaur

Dilopho

I'm really loving how this movie looks visually, that shot of the Titanosaurus is wonderful.
But yeah, what..what is that thing? That thing doesn't look good. When they said failed clone, I thought it would look like, yknow, a dinosaur. Just a really deformed one with some conjoined twin elements.
Not an alien monster.

Also, another spoiler says they are looking for the largest dinosaurs of land, sea, and air. If they call Mosasaurus and Quetzalcoatlus dinosaurs on screen I'm gonna make a scene at the theater, lol.

Blade-of-the-Moon

Looks pretty much exactly as they described everything in the article.

The film feels fun, it's just the dino designs I'm not entirely loving yet.

Titanosaurus with those sails..just make a Amargasaurus? The Spinos are JW Baryonyx with sails. Mosa looks good, Quetz is hard to see in all the action but acceptable. Should have used Firebeak from Kenner.  The Red Rex is stellar. I love the that it's finally in a film. Dilo was cool and I think I see spots on it?   No ceratopsians..yet.   Will I love these enough to buy figures and statues? IDK yet.

Now the elephant in the room, the mutant.  They very clearly described it in the article and that's exactly what it is. Sauropod looking feet, some trex, and alien tossed in.  They wanted scary it looks like it should be scary.  I honestly don't care as I see what they are doing..I think.  Deformed mutant lab animal that survived but should have died. It will be a horror that another dinosaur destroys probably that red rex?  It's cannon fodder and like it or not it's probably dying.  I had more sympathy for the Indominus/Frankenstein monster and the Indoraptor/Nosferatu but this is just for kicks and a big battle so they don't have to have dinosaurs just fight it out.

I'm a little curious how this film will lead into another trilogy though with all the prehistoric creatures centered in equatorial climates?

My biggest annoyance is labeling them all "dinosaurs" or as the article kept claimimg, big lizards.  Let's just use some Crystal Palace creations eh?  lol

I see others are criticizing the plot or idea to head back to the island. While I agree, I am curious if everyone would just simply be fine with concept of "Yeah, we just want to go to the island due to dinosaurs being there, the desire to research." I for one was initially thinking this was the point of the expedition of the film but I'm curious to what everyone thinks about this blunt and simple concept prior to the trailer's reveal.
