Could it work as a Tanystropheus? It's a very charming figure! :D

Unfortunately no, it wouldn't work.

Monkeysaurus

Thanks for the link. Not my cup of tea however. I can't settle for anything less than PNSO/Haolonggood/Rebor quality as far as being realistic looking. I recently retired all of my Papo models to the closet because they stood out too much next to the rest.
Just because I have a short attention span doesn't mean

The proportions still look more like those of Tanystropheus to me. I just can't get over the neck looking too short for Dinocephalosaurus.

Looks like the figure has a neck that is only 1 ½ x the length of the body, while it seems it should be at least 2 ⅓ x the length of the body?

Cretaceous Crab

A little off topic but the animal, while very unique and interesting in its own right, doesn't seem to live up to its name which means "terrible headed lizard." I dunno...just my opinion.

Are you sure that model is of Nothosaurus youngi?  To me its head looks like that of Simosaurus.  Also, there's another model in that museum that looks like Nothosaurus, it can be seen behind the Dinocephalosaurus below:

Anshunsaurus is another of the animals that have models in that museum:

I've been reminded that "Nothosaurus" youngi has been reclassified as a species of Lariosaurus for some time now.  I guess the identification of this species in the museum still uses the old name.  Also, it's tiny!  See the image below that shows the species of Nothosaurus and Lariosaurus at relative sizes:

Here's a close-up of that museum model I think is a true Nothosaurus:

Also, Paleofiguas has posted more photos of the models in that museum: https://www.facebook.com/Paleofiguras/posts/pfbid0SZ2s21BDuNaqaTwe6xCnd4CKxjaKc94BhHvEMo1YBDqMEjzyRG9Mp7LHXQxGEmRBl?locale=en_GB

Berno

Looks like it's based on the museum model rather than the skeletal reconstruction.

Regardless of that I think it looks awesome and I'm definitely gonna get one.

Hmm... maybe avatar_stargatedalek @stargatedalek is right that it suffers from proportion issues. Not dissimilar to the Atopodentatus!

Sim

I think some of it at least is due to perspective.  The head and neck are curved, making them look shorter than they actually are and bringing the head closer to the camera and thus making it look bigger.  This can be noticed in the museum model photo and in some of PNSO's promortional images for the figure.  Remember how initally people thought the PNSO Acrocanthosaurus had proportion problems but the final figure turned out to be fine.

Possible proportion issues aside I'm still very keen on this guy. I hadn't heard of Dinocephalosaurus before this announcement, but it's unique, unusual and the figure is pretty enough that I'd still like one for my shelf. It's also heartening to see more marine reptiles around - I feel like even the "popular" ones (mosasaurs, elasmosaurs etc.) are tricky to find accurate/believable models for.

Halichoeres

Even if the proportions are off (and I don't think it's possible to be sure yet), there's no way I'll let that stop me from picking up a figure of a genus that might never be seriously attempted again.

It's not especially large, but close-ups of the head show a mouth full of wicked teeth. I'd say it's pretty terrible!
In the kingdom of the blind, better take public transit. Well, in the kingdom of the sighted, too, really--almost everyone is a terrible driver.

unfortunate that this guy doesn't seem to hold up to well when it comes  to overall scientific accuracy, at least based of these pictures, very curious to see what dino dragons has to say.

Yep good catch you are right!! I checked the translation for the sign underneath that model which says 杨氏幻龙 and it translates to Nothosaurus youngi! (Which apparently translates as Yang's Magic Dragon in Chinese haha)

stargatedalek

Oh dear, it appears we have a potential explanation for the proportions. It seems to have been based on a Peters skeletal...

Odobenocetops

Sorry, not an expert... what's wrong with the figure then?
It's not accurate for any real animal?

Thanks!
