The fingers have to be cutted to lenght from the provided wire.

PS: Painting refers to Maned Wolf.

Your models are a Marvel.  IT shows that its possible to make almost any dinosaur in any scale no matter the size.

Imagine what you could do for others if you used your techniques to create 1:40 Scale models of very tiny animals.

Thanks.
Its due to my limited space and -of course- my faible for 1/72.
The running and planned projects are a bit bigger: Giraffatitan and Supersaurus. But also Epidexipteryx sitting in its nest and Microraptor hanging on a tree.

MIXVS MINIMAX

While Protoceratops is in its last stage (it was a hard work), I already startet with Giraffatitan:

Its nearly relaxing to work on areas larger than 25mm².

Lanthanotus

It seems while I am a member of this forum for almost two years, I never noticed this thread,.... just read through it and marvelled at the photos, those tiny models are gorgeous. Where do you sell those?

Next steps in working on Giraffatitan.

PS: Protoceratops master will be finished this week.

Next kit is finished and I just need to make the boxart:

Pteranodon longiceps/ steinbergi, female, 1/72, Mixvs Minimax.

The kit (https://www.scalemates.com/kits/1108857-mixvs-minimax-b02-pteranodon-longiceps-steinbergi-f-m) contains beside the body and the base seperate crests for a male P. steinbergi and P. longiceps. The wing-skin is thin like paper. Lower beak, tounge and
feets have to be assembled. This model was built OOB.

And once again a new "beast" has left my production garage.

Protoceratops andrewsi, 1/72, Mixvs Minimax

..is watching its nest.
Its again a small 2-parts kit. One base (with casted legs) and the body.
Paintjob-reference is the Springbok (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Springbok).
BTW, this kind of camo (bright  downside, sand/brown upside with contrast-stripe between) seems to be witespread in the recent fauna.

The Protoceratops is amazing.  I can't imagine working on such a tiny scale!  Beautiful job on the Pteranodon too.

Thanks!

@ceratopsian: I only use dentists tools. Thats all.

I have some experience sculpting in tiny scales like this, and I have to say: if palaeontologists assert that maniraptor feathers were attached to the second finger, forming a proper wing, and that free, scaly fingers in palaeoart are wrong, then the full wing is not just more accurate - it's also a gift to us miniature sculptors! It means about four to six very tiny, extended, fragile little details that can be absorbed into a larger, sturdier mass.
In fact, that's what you did with your Deinonychus sculpt. I'm confused why you didn't carry it over to the finished, painted model, and the other maniraptors.
If you don't mind me saying so, it probably means a lot less stress and frustration for customers receiving resin casts too. My experience is with gaming miniatures; but I've seen a few small producers experiment with polyurethane resin when tin for the usual metal casting alloy became much more expensive, and I've seen more gamers complain about it! In general, pretty much what ITdactyl posted a couple of years ago - captures details very well, but it's quite brittle and fragile for small, thin parts.

>In fact, that's what you did with your Deinonychus sculpt. I'm confused why you didn't carry it over to the finished, painted model, and the other maniraptors.
The sources I used said, that at least one digit was free of feathers (Deinonychus). That's why I built it so.

Because I know, that there would be a lot problems from failed-cast (bubbles etc) to accidents on transport, the fingers in those kits are not resin but wire.
In case of Deinonychus I place the wire in the mold, before I start to cast. So its stable. The claws have to be separate from a extra plate and then to be glued on the end of the finger.
For Velociraptor You need to cut a wire (provided in the kit) in specific lenght to get the fingers. After that you can glue them to the arm.  So its up to You, if and how to mount the fingers.
Ok, that's a task for modellers/customers with experience, but I am a modellist whos cares a lot about details. That's why the wings of Pteranodon/ Velociraptor etc. are based on paper and moreover resin allows me to cast that "thickness".
I build the models for my own and I use a cast, not the master. So I am facing the problems others will/could have with my models. And I had no problems which could not be solved.
But because I don't have the transport problem, I meanwhile secure the parts with tape in the box.

Here we go again with a bigger model.

Placerias gigas, 1/72, (by myself), a triassic Dicynodont (a cousingroup of the Mammals), comes back home and thinks it's good to touch the green, green lycopodiopsida of home...

Its a 2-parts kit (1 figure and 1base) and the model is 5cm long.

It's believed, that Placerias had a hippo-like lifestyle, therefore I painted it here like a hippo.

MIXVS MINIMAX

Hi everybody,

Last weekend I looked at my Velociraptor and thought: Thats a damn boring base!
Thats a predator and let's place it's kill under it's feet. What a luck, that I have
finished Velociraptor's prey (Protoceratops) recently.

cheers,
Alex
