Hello forum members! It has come to my attention that you guys are talented, talented at Paleo-art. Paleo-art is how people see dinosaurs, you can't go to the zoo, you can't go on a safari, you have to dig up fossils and base your art on them. Without artists... who would see the dinosaurs? Who? Who?

Anyways  ::)  ::)

I was thinking it would be neat if there was a thread where we could focus on making Paleo-art for a specific Dinosaur and(or) pose. And after we were satisfied with entries we could move on to a new Dinosaur. This would be something anyone who wants to could contribute to and everyone can help decide the next topic. To start with I chose "rearing ceratopsians". When we choose the next topic I will edit the thread description.

So if you think this sounds like a good idea please comment! Suggestions for how this should work are welcome. All art forms count, from a napkin doodle to a granite statue.

This sounds very cool, hopefully I'll be able to contribute to these threads myself eventually :).

Interesting idea!

I'd keep in mind a good time frame for each species..some artists work slower than others, may not have a lot of time, ect..

+1. From my experience on other forums, short deadlines result in few submissions, and very long or vague deadlines also result in few submissions. I'm not sure exactly where the sweet spot is, but I would suggest about 3-4 weeks.

Maybe this could be a monthly thing? Paleoart Topic of the Month?

Anyways, I like the idea, and I'd like to contribute.

Thanks for the support! I think for now we'll shoot for 3 weeks and go from there. I started of with this sketch with three possible positions. I can't wait to see what we can come up with!

Such a cool idea for a series of Posts. To bad my Drawing skills are extremely limited, and i can not draw any good Ceratopsian.

Well I few years ago when I became interested in Dinosaurs again I started drawing them by tracing pics of skeletons. I would lay the paper over my iPad and get the basic shape. Just drawing lines around the bones as if they had flesh. Maybe you could try that  :D

What a great idea!

I've been trying to get back into customizing dinosaurs and this might just be the push I need to finally get to work on the box full of potential projects that's been piling up.  I'm not sure if I'll have time for this first one, I've got a ton of other customs going right now, but I'll definitely participate in future ones.

Such a great idea! It'll be great to have interesting prompts like the one you have now, like preening raptors or sitting sauropods 😊. Time to doodle some ceratops then!

i'll admit, this is very quick and rather sloppy sketch, but at least it's a rearing nasutoceratops :)

Here we go!  I've had the doodle sitting in my sketchbook for a week, waiting for the opportune time to scan it in.  I scanned him in this morning and gave him a bit of quick color on the computer.   :)

Animals will do some unusual things in pursuit of something they want.  Horses will rear up to pig out on mesquite bean pods when they don't want to wait for them to fall, pelicans will fly for miles to steal unguarded chicks from another colony of breeding birds...I figured this particular ceratopsian has taken a liking to magnolia flowers and those sticky pods they produce.  This is the first time I draw a ceratopsian, so please forgive anatomical errors (I used a rearing elephant and the most convenient ceratops skull for ref).

That's really neat Ttyto_Theropod! And it brings up a good point; I think it's likely they would have used objects to support themselves while standing on two legs, and food is a great motivation. We also know they had to mate, which may have been accomplished the same way Dogs do... Or Rhinos
