thanks kayakasaurus.
the pachycephalosaurus has a head now. after some more head and neck touch ups, all it needs it some foot claws and a tail.

i also practicing a new texturing technique on this sculpture. its a 1:20 scale monolophosaurus. i do hope to have this sculpt cast along with the dimetrodon.

and finally, timurlengia. " the tyrannosaur the size of a horse". i wanted to try and practice sculpting feathers and with remnants of saurian hype still flowing in my veins, i decided to sculpt a small tyrannosaurid with the saurian tyrannosaurus feathering layout. ( the burn make was from when it fell in the oven when i opened the door. i saved it in time before more damage was done.)
i also have a quetion. for texture work, what would you use to clean up little clay particles on the sculpt? i normally use a brush to wipe off excess clay, but at times, it can wipe away the details. is there other ways for this clean p, or do i just need to be more carful on how hard i wipe the sculpt with the brush?

Takama

You sure have a wide range of species.

When you start casting.  How much are you going to sell them for?

That pachy looks terrific!

I thiefed an old blush make-up brush from my sis in law and it works great for wiping away crumbs, the bristles are much softer than a paint brush.

Wonderful sculpts friend  ^-^.
[Off Nick and Eddie's reactions to the dinosaurs] Oh yeah "Ooh, aah", that's how it always starts. But then there's running and screaming.

{about the T-Rex) When he sees us with his kid isn't he gonna be like "you"!?

thank you everyone. i am trying my best to get a  good grasp with this medium.

i'm not going to decide costs until i get something going. this will be my first time doing something as ambiguous as molding, casting and possibly selling sculptures. i would likely fret over costs as soon as a good quantity of casts are created.

the top of timurlengia head is finished. i plan to have its mouth partially open. as if to momentarily cool itself down emitting a deep rumble from its throat.
the monolophosaurus would be in a normal walking pose. i fel that it actually suits monolophosaurus rather elongated body rather nicely.

spinosaurus1

a little backstory. i went ahead and gotten the sculpture to the point where i decided to bake it again. i decided to go ahead and depict it with mouth close and i did plan to sculpt the claws as the final process in baking. that being said, i went ahead and put it in the oven, and i gotten sidetracked by doing something for my sister for a bit. i literally forgotten about the sculpture for a while until i smelled it. i rushed to the oven and when i opened it, i was greeted with this

a pitch black timurlengia....

Archinto

I dont think Id try putting anymore clay on that... lol How it is burned its going to be very brittle now. Id leave it as is, it looks pretty cool like that.

spinosaurus1

its actually surprisingly hard. it feels like a textured stone at this point and looks like some sort of strange metal. the photos aren't doing this sculpture justice at conveying how dark and shiny this sculpture turned out. i am definitely not adding any more clay. i decided to just bake and glue on the toe claws separately.

Archinto

Ive burned sculptures before and they look awesome when it turns black, almost slightly transparent like obsidian. But they are way more brittle. If it breaks the stuff tends to crumble. You should make a neat little base and mount it. :)

interesting. fortunately, this sculpt doesn't feel brittle, but i'll keep it in a safe place for the time being. i was actually thinking about that. amazingly, on an even surface, this sculpture can balance pretty well on its two legs. i'm going to create a few more sculptures in the meantime before getting to the aspect of creating bases.

i'm starting to run a little low on clay, so i decided to take a break from the 1:20 scale sculptures and work in a scale more manageable for the time being. i decided that a lot of figures available are in about 1:35 scale, so i decided that would be a decent scale to start creating sculptures for, it also brings the possibility of sculpting large sauropods and I've been itchen to try out a brontosmash brontosaurus someday >:D

my next sculpture would probably be a Triceratops porosus or some other species of ornithischian. MWC 7584 seems like a very likely candidate atm.

Takama

I was looking forward to a Big Brontosaurus in 1:20 Scale.

But if you do Larger models in 1:35 i might be interested.  Maybe make a Ceratain Size range for both scales

For instance

1-9 meters 1:20

Anything above can be 1:35

spinosaurus1

oh don't worry, i have animals up to the 15 meter ball park planned for 1: 20 scale. i do however think that a sauropod at a scale would be a bit too much with certain exceptions.

my line of thinking at the moment is to progressively get bigger with each sculpt ( unless some smaller creature proves too tempting for me to ignore) it will also be pretty cool for theses 1:35 scale sculpts having 1:20 scale counterparts.

brontosaurus is still huge at 1:35 scale. over 2 feet linearly. i think you would find enjoyment of such a size pretty well :). i even have a titanosaur planned in this scale. its over 2 feet linearly but MUCH longer going along the curves. not to mention the wicked girth that i will exploit in the sculpt.

Takama

So your saying your going to make the same Dinosaur in Both Scales?

I am interested in the 1:20s Depending on how much your going to charge for them

spinosaurus1

its a concept i'm considering, but i'm definitely not stopping the 1:20 scale animals. i'm just pretty low on the amount of clay and  these 1:20 scale animals tend to take alot of it. the 1:35 scale is what i would play around with before i get enough clay to start the 1:20 scales again. my next 1:20 scale creature after the monolophosaurus would be between torvosaurus, megalosaurus, or allosaurus
