So I saw a comment on the fb page (I think on the Xenoceratops post), where someone was requesting that he give the ceratopsians keratin covered faces. What's the consensus on that and how does it work if it's an accurate thing to have? I think I recall Saurian incorporating it for their Triceratops, but the coloration on the frill would still be visible. I may need to look again, since it's been some time since I read that post.
Keratin should be brightly coloured, these are display structures of course. No reason for a ceratopsians frill or horns to look like giant nails, they should look more like toucan beaks as far as keratin goes! ;)
I'd like them to be brightly colored quite honestly. So if he does go that route it should only effect the texture of the sculpt, not the paintwork. Well, I'll just have to wait and see of course, since the Xenoceratops isn't even finished yet. The toucan beak is a nice example to explain how this all works. I never really thought much about that to be honest.

Well, I gave him the suggestion of using butterfly wings as a reference for the frills. From what I could tell, he was super into it. I specifically requested the Scarlet Tiger Moth and Doris Longwing during PMs. I just felt that the shape of Butterfly/Moth wings could give a lot of inspiration for patterns and stuff.

I was always happy to message him idea's and suggestions as Sim also did in the comments sections to his updates at Kickstarter, though. Unfortunately, he is much more active on FB.  :-\

Chris

If you want to tell David something while there isn't a new Kickstarter update, you could post a comment in the main comments section, or send him a PM on Kickstarter.  When I've done those things at this point where he's not doing Kickstarter updates often, I've received replies from him after a day or a few days. :)

That's a great idea, I hope he goes through with it!  :)

New post on Facebook:

QuoteBeen working on something Beasts of the Mesozoic related for the past few months that I think you all will really get a kick out of. It's finally finished and will be unveiled on Thursday.
What could it be?

:D
QuoteA hint- it is not a new product. ;)
God damn it! You had me excited.

Well time to guess. It has to be:

  • Beasts of the Mesozoic related
  • Takes a  few months to do
  • We'll really get a kick out of it
  • Not a new product

Any ideas?

Edit: An animation perhaps?

I'm almost relieved that it will not be a new product, my wallet has just begun healing from the raptors  ;)
My guess is a stop motion animation of the figures

Faelrin

A stop motion video would be awesome. I'd be fine if it were more video showcasing on the figures in general. Though I really do wonder what it could be. I'm glad it's not another new product though. I still don't quite have everything I want ordered yet (soon I hope).

After thinking over it, I don't think it's stop motion. David sent his painted prototypes to the factory in the new year and the joints were glued anyway. I probably think that it's the website update he mentioned in the podcast. Pretty sweet if that's the case. The format of the BOTM section needs improvement.

No wonder the Papo Styracosaurus looks intimidated into cowering away from the mega-beast!

QuoteOkay everyone, here it is, the big Thursday reveal! (I hope I didn't over hype it.) It's an experimental idea I came up with to reach more people about the BotM: Raptor Series project: the 'Which Beasts of the Mesozoic Raptor are You?' quiz!
The purpose of this is not only to have fun, but also in hopes that you all will share the quiz results with your friends on whatever social media you normally frequent. And please feel free to post your results and feedback in the comments below, you can even show us a screen cap of your result if you'd like!
(disclaimer- This quiz is for entertainment purposes only and is not meant to reflect any scientific findings on actual dinosaur behavior.)
Enjoy!

I'm a Tsaagan mangas!

Quote

Quiet and reserved, interested and curious, Tsaagan (pronounced sar -GAN) is loyal to their peers and to their values, but not overly concerned with respecting traditions if they get in the way of getting something done. Detached and analytical, they excel at finding solutions to practical problems. Mostly neutral in color with some bright yellows- still blending with surroundings, Tsaagan is a survivor-pragmatist who can adapt well to most situations.

Kind of a shame really. I wanted to be the red velociraptor ;P

I'm Acheroraptor temertyorum.

"Serious and quiet, Acheroraptor is mostly interested in security and peaceful living. Extremely thorough, responsible, and dependable, this raptor displays well developed concentration on any particular task with an exceptional ability to focus and are usually quiet unless provoked. Acheroraptors are mostly non-social except during the mating season when its blue colors are more pronounced."

Faelrin

Ended up with getting one of my top favorites, the kestrel fan's choice Dromaeosaurus, as my result.

That Xenoceratops looks better in every post. I can't wait to see it finished, and the others down the line, even if it will be a long time from now.

Got Balaur bondoc!
https://quiz.tryinteract.com/#/579e29ed36fb271100080de6
Reclusive yet social, Baluar is adventurous and curious, open-minded to doing things differently. Despite being well-equipped to deal with conflict, they will avoid it whenever possible. Baluar has extremely well-developed senses, and an aesthetic appreciation for beauty. Loyal to family and friends, they are not interested in leading or controlling others. They prefer to enjoy the present moment and tend to be very creative and original
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

Minmiminime

I got Tsaagan mangas  :)) I'm very happy with that result, as it's my favourite and it was the first one I ordered
"You can have all the dinosaurs you want my love, providing we have enough space"

Dobber

I got Adasaurus, but the description really doesn't sound like me. From what was posted here, Acheroraptor sounds almost exactly like me.

I'm Zhenyuanlong suni (fans choice), the description does sound a lot like me. Really happy with this result, because I love the look of that raptor! :P
